Shaq Barrett, Jason Pierre-Paul > Montez Sweat And Chase Young

June 22nd, 2021

Talking head has Shaq’s back

Yesterday Joe brought word that BSPN talking head and retired defensive end Marcus Spears picked Washington pass rushers Montez Sweat and Chase Young over Shaq Barrett and Jason Pierre-Paul when asked to rank the best pass-rushing combos.

That seemed fishy to Joe and that also apparently seemed fishy to Spears’ colleague, Mina Kimes.

On the same “NFL Live” episode, Kimes spoke up to correct Spears.

“Washington shouldn’t be higher than the Bucs, I’m sorry,” Kimes said. “I love Montez Sweat and Chase Young. They are really a fun young duo. I think the group is excellent. The Bucs have the best duo.”

Well, here is the thing: When the Bucs faced Washington in the playoffs, what did Sweat and Young do (especially when Young popped off on how much he wanted to face Tom Brady — whoops!)?

Not a damn thing.

And what did Shaq and JPP do in the playoffs? They dominated. When you own your opponent in the biggest of big games, Joe gives you significant extra credit.

Kimes also poked fun at Spears for including Aaron Donald and Leonard Floyd in his top duos of pass rushers.

“Anyone could line up next to Aaron Donald and get some sacks; I could, honestly.”

The Washington Who duo? We play football here not Washington clubs, this is not soccer!

    Joe agrees.

When the young guns in DC get some hardware such as a few playoff wins and a Lombardi Trophy then they can be in the conversation for numero uno until the got to give it JPP and Shaq! Besides, no offense to Montez-Sweat and Chase Young but as long as Danny Snyder owns the team it is doubtful they will make much noise in the NFC as the last time they won a playoff game is 2005, 17-10 against our Bucs where Washington only had like 110 or 120 yards in offense but Chris Simms and Cadillac Williams had rough days and gave the ‘skins 14 points via turnovers.

Just because you thought it was fine does not mean it was fine to the people who found it offensive. Imagine an old white guy trying to determine what is offensive to a minority group. America before the 21st century. By your logic, lets just grope women in the work place because it was one fine and ok to do. Better yet, lets just smoke in airplanes and restaurant because that too was fine for decades. smdh

The US Patent & Trademark Office refused the trademark Washington Football Team, which I find weird. I’ve worked the the gnomes (IP lawyers) at USPTO on patents and trademarks. I’ll put it this way: If you have a lot of money to throw at your own IP lawyers, getting a trademark (even a generic sounding one) should be a slam dunk. I just wonder what former public defender or chimpanzee Dan Snyder hired to represent his team.

Anyway, the refusal is a great opportunity for Snyder. Rename the franchise as Washington Team Football (WTF). I guarantee that they’ll sell a ton of jerseys.

I think I remember people saying WFT only real chance against was their dline. Got totally shut down. After that in the NFC Championship and Super Bowl…we’ll…you know what happened.

@Webster LOL imagine thinking that an old JEWISH man isn’t a minority.

  8. Bucs Bro Says:

I’ve never seen a player get as much hype as Young has for only 6 sacks…

I guess when your team has no name you gotta get hyped over something.

  9. SlyPirate Says:

    The right answer is …
    1. TJ Watt and Stephon Tuitt
    2. Aaron Donald and Leonard Floyd
    3. Shaq and JPP
    4. Myles Garrett and Olivier Vernon

Sweat and Young don’t even make the list. They had less combined sacks than multiple individuals on the aforementioned list.

Both duos are really good….Silly comparison….Is like comparing who do you love more, your father or your mother….

  11. Get it right Says:

Chase young actually had 7.5 sacks 4 forced fumbles 3 fumble recoveries and a defensive td.

Quote from Joe’s article: “Anyone could line up next to Aaron Donald and get some sacks; I could, honestly.”

A lot could be said about Vita Vea. When he is in the lineup everyone doubles their sacks. Just a coincidence? hmmm.

When the young guns in DC get some hardware such as a few playoff wins and a Lombardi Trophy…LMFFAO! How about starting with a team record above .500? Weren’t they 6-10 last year?

  14. #1bucsfan Says:

Glad someone corrected him. For everyone else who doesn’t think they are the top duo you also need to be corrected. This pass rush won us the super bowl case closed.

  15. Ronniet Says:

Imagine Bucs fans saying Washington Football Team fans can’t talk or boast about anything until we get more playoff wins or a Lombardi Trophy?! Does Tampa Bay have more Lombardi’s than the WFT? Did Tampa Bay consistently make the playoffs over the last decade? The answers to both of those is NO, so stop it with this fake ago because of ONE year of excellence. We’ll see what happens this season

I did not watch enough of Tuitt to have a strong opinion of him. I know he had a good statistical year last year. TJ Watt probably best all around guy now ahead of Aaron Donald though. Personally not a big fan of Leonard Floyd, I easily rate both JPP and Shaq over him currently.

  17. Bucs Bro Says:

    @Ronniet,

The WFT hasn’t won a title in 28 years. They haven’t won a Super Bowl since there has been a Salary Cap and Free Agency.

They have 2 Playoff wins since their last Super Bowl…

The Bucs have 9 playoff wins in that same time frame and 2 Super Bowls.

    Get outta here

  18. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

I didn’t watch WFT, because, why would I? They’re trash. When I did finally watch them, I didn’t see Sweat or Young do a single thing. Did either of them even have a tackle in that game?

  19. Colin in Canada Says:

This might be a bold take but I think I’d take Myles Garrett over Aaron Donald.

  20. Buczilla Says:

Mina is now one of the very few people that I like at ESPN. Aaron Donald is still dominant, but is starting to break down. Watt is very good, but he has been overrated from day one because of his last name and the fact that he plays in Pittsburgh. They both have shlubs playing next to them that would be fourth string at best on our team. Shaq and JPP are far and away the best duo in the league. 😛

  21. Buc-em-up84 Says:

I would take Von Miller & Bradley Chubb over Sweat & Young
