Tom Brady Fully Embraces Bruce Arians’ Motto

June 2nd, 2021

Throw it deep, Tom!

This is an example of why Joe doesn’t get a certain someone’s adulation and fascination with throwing short passes in the flat to Giovani Bernard.

Why? The Bucs are built to throw deep. Just look at their receivers and tight ends. This ain’t the Belicheats and their conservative dink-and-dunk offense, no sir.

And Joe believes Brady has fully bought in to Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians and his go-for-broke style of throwing deep early and often.

Why because Brady said so.

In a TikTok video this morning, Brady narrated a highlight and a lowlight for the Bucs this past season.

One was Brady’s touchdown pass to Scotty Miller that broke the back of the Packers in the NFC title game. The other play, the lowlight, was Brady holding up four fingers thinking he had another down as the Bucs’ final possession of hte loss to the Bears ended.

You can see and hear Brady below. He gets so fired up over his bomb to Miller, Brady acts like he’s ready to play a playoff game tonight!

You’ll be pumped to see and hear Brady react as well. It’s cool AF.

As Brady himself says in the video of Miller’s catch, “Let’s go!”

@tombrady

They taught me how to use the green screen… I’m evolving. Who wants more TikTok highlights? @bucsnfl

Nice to see him making fun of himself.

“This is an example of why Joe doesn’t get a certain someone’s adulation and fascination with throwing short passes in the flat to Giovani Bernard.”

Joe doesn’t understand football and has never heard of a check down, or a screen to keep the defense off balance, or a short yardage/red zone situation where a RB can pick up crucial yards and move the chains or get the rock in the end zone by catching the ball out the back field and making someone miss.

No one is saying that Bernard is going to be the focal point the of the entire offense, but he is absolutely a tool that can be utilized to take our offense to the next level. How many drives were stalled out last year directly because of RB drops or failing to make a play in space after the catch?

  3. Buczilla Says:

    Awesome.

  4. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

Maybe he just wants our opinion written down Mr. berry. Just maybe

    Let’s Go!!!!!!

and yet we still won the SB!!!…

another year with everyone in the same offense will take it to another level…

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  6. Cobraboy Says:

The more they throw deep, the more teams run two-deep safeties…and the more underneath opens up.

    “Simple as that.”

  7. m0j0 Says:

A good screen game can open things up all over. Excited to see Brady using Gio to force the defense to try and cover every blade of grass.

  8. PassingThru Says:

You really don’t get it Joe. You take what the defense gives you. Never force the issue; if the receivers going long are well-covered, check down. First, if the DBs are deep, the underbelly of the defense might be exposed. Second, don’t be so predictable. A snap in football is like a hand in poker; a snap and a hand isn’t a game, it’s just one “match” within an ongoing series of hands or snaps that sets your opponent up for the kill. If they’re looking for “no risk it, no biscuit” they’ll be vulnerable underneath for short pass plays which includes a pass-catching RB. If they’ve been lulled with short pass plays, go deep. If they are using a light dime formation because you’ve been picking them apart with passing, go with a quick series of runs. The objective is to mix things up as hero ball is easier to defend.

  9. Joe Says:

You really don’t get it Joe.

Apparently you don’t get it. Take a deep look at the Bucs offensive roster. Does that look like a dink-and-dunk offense to you? You go with your strength. To not go with your strength is both football-wise and financially grossly irresponsible.

This may be the best downfield passing offense in history. Certainly the best since the 1999 Rams (who didn’t have a decent tight end). And you want to throw out-passes to a backup running back?

    Child, please.

  10. Swampbuc Says:

I am feeling the aarmabfoe Tom again

  11. Alanbucsfan Says:

    Joe gets it-
RoJo and Fournette are better than Bernard and Evans, Godwin, Brown, Gronk, Brate and Miller and maybe Howard are better options than any of the RB’s.

  12. Swampbuc Says:

Man my phone sucks sorry everyone I don’t know what that is but I guess I feel it!

  13. 6throundpick Says:

TB12 did what he was told for too long in NE. In fact, he did it to the extent that many- around the league -actually believed he had a weak arm and could not go long. In addition, they took the hometown discount (saved them more than $200M, according to one Boston Globe article) and rarely rewarded him with a cast that could…do what they can do in Tampa…another reason why TB12 in Tampa is good for TB12 fans, football, and Tampa. Just saying…

  14. Thisisouryear!!! Says:

Easy to get pumped after watching the legend who is OUR QB!!!! Go BUCS!!!!

  15. DrunkInYbor Says:

He seems way happier here in beautiful Tampa Bay! He’s laughing at himself, narrating highlights. He has the look of someone who has won 7 Superbowls doesn’t he? He just appears so confidant and at ease as he should for he the best to ever play his position!!

  16. Kentucky Buc Says:

@Alanbucsfan. Not running after the catch on a screen. Brown maybe. Makes it sneaky if ROJO can get a little better receiving. Not going to be expecting him to be thrown to with Lenny and Gio on the squad.

  17. sgrd0q Says:

PsassingThru is right – you take what the defense gives you. The Chiefs lost the SB in part because they did not adapt.

  18. Defense Rules Says:

What a great video! Gotta love how the greatest QB of all time can poke fun at himself. And calling Scooter ‘Bowling Green’s finest’ was priceless.

  19. Cainishere Says:

Didn’t you guys know? Brady was showing us how many years he plans on playing in Tampa… hahaha

  20. Pine Hills Says:

Joe, nobody’s saying dink and dunk all game.
Obviously, we’re gonna run some and go deep when they stack the box.
Screens are deadliest when they blitz. Its just another way to ruin their day.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

We have Gio Bernard because we are a team and we need that component to perform well….
Yes….he’s there for an occasional dink and dunk….what is wrong with that? How about a block to help with those throws down the field?….How about a run when the opposition is thinking pass?

  22. Steven007 Says:

Great video from Brady. Love seeing him being man enough to make fun of himself over and honest mistake. As for Bernard, it should be much nicer to have what should be a much more reliable short game. Nothing wrong with that at all.

  23. PassingThru Says:

No, you don’t get it Joe, and I doubt you ever will. Most of this roster was set before Brady was signed.

You denigrate Giovani Bernard, but this was a post-Brady signing, as was Antonio Brown and Gronk. Arians and Licht are smart enough to work in pieces to compliment their QB… unlike some blog writer who thinks “no risk it, no biscuit” is the end-all in offense. It isn’t, what’s important is exploiting matchups/weaknesses in the defense, and setting up the defense by mixing your playcalls and underlying strategy.

  24. DingleBerry Says:

When Giovani Bernard is a key contributor and a major reason why we average 34+ points a game and repeat this year, all you jokers doubting his importance will look like fools.

813, that’s about the weakest argument ever. Just because we won the Super Bowl last year doesn’t mean we didn’t need to improve an area of the team that was desperate for improvement.

And Joe, if you’re so hung up on passing it deep non stop then why were you pining for yet another running back? Surely any time this team runs the ball would take away from its greatest strength according to your deeply flawed logic.

  25. DingleBerry Says:

I also find it intensely and deliciously ironic that you would reference the greatest show on turf to bolster your argument against throwing to running backs when they literally had Marshall Faulk, arguably the best receiving back in NFL history and did plenty of “dinking and dunking” themselves.

  26. DingleBerry Says:

How you managed to make a living writing about a sport you clearly don’t understand is one of life’s great mysteries.

  27. Brandon Jeff Says:

Alright guys, Joe is not stupid about football. Therefore, his whole stance
is likely done with the intent to stir up controversy and get under some
skins. I think a few of you just got suckered!

  28. Swampbuc Says:

Remember when Arians answered the “identity question” when he said “any damn thing we want?”

    Gio helps that cause.

  29. JimmyJack Says:

Joe Im not sure who your talking about that wants a dink and dunk offense. I also dont use social medias so maybe i just never see these fans.

But speaking for the handful of fans I talk to and read here on this site Im pretty sure the main reason people like Gio as a fit here is because when the Bucs do run a flat pass or a check down we wont have to see Leonard or Ronald bumbling the ball or outright dropping it no more……..I been reading your practice notes and I see we are working Gio into some screen play. You gotta remember some of those short passes are part of the No Risk It offense as well.

It is a little exciting knowing Gio can be more productive on the short plays. Heck, I remember you being excited(or at least seemed that way) when we added LeSean McCoy last year. It sure looks like McCoy was brought in to do the exact same job Gio will be asked……And Gio likely has much fresher legs based on age. Dont see why its such a big deal if fans are looking forward to more production out of the 3rf/4th down RB role. Production is good.

  30. DingleBerry Says:

Jeff, if you honestly believe that this particular Joe isn’t being 100% honest then you simply haven’t been paying attention. This is the same guy who tells the same 15-20 stories incessantly on the Ira pod, each time telling them as if it’s the very first time he said it, how Ira doesn’t constantly cut him off is beyond me.

He isn’t putting on an act to generate controversy and comments, he’s just that dumb.

  31. UKBuccaneer Says:

The second super bowl is far harder to win than the first. The team will need to be BETTER. Staying the same is moving backwards. Bernard helps us get better.

  32. Steven007 Says:

Dingle, I agree with a lot of what you’re saying on this thread. Surprised Joe is letting you run on however. I’ve seen far lesser things being attributed as “crimes against Joe”, haha.

  33. Slugglife Says:

What does sink and dunk even mean?

We have receivers with YAC ability. We have deep threats. We have guys to do everything. Dink and dunk won Brady six rings, if you want to be picky about word choice.

Those plays also resulted in many hard fought first downs. Who cares how we get it done as long as it gets done. Pejoratives usually bite you in the ass. Think “savior of the defense, Devin White.”

  34. Brandon Jeff Says:

Mr. Berry! I stand corrected! LOL

  35. Joe in Michigan Says:

The 2013 Denver Broncos scored 606 points, the NFL record, and their RB’s caught 92 passes that year. When the St. Louis Rams were scoring all of those points, Marshall Faulk would catch 80+ passes (in 1999 & 2000, anyway). This reminds me of when one of the Joe’s had the “zero development in 2021” mantra for a while. A good pass catching RB (which Rojo and Lenny weren’t last year) is an obvious improvement, and player development is important every year, even after a Super Bowl victory.

  36. Cobraboy Says:

Fact is, the deep-threat No Biscuit WR’s notwithstanding, the only real hole in the 2020 Bucs offense was a seriously effective RB pass-catcher. Jones and Fournette are fine runners but are lacking as threat receivers (although Jones did house one on a fantastic post-catch run.)

I trust Bernard won’t trip over yard markers post-catch like Michael Pittman did.

  37. DaBux Says:

No wonder his teammates love playing with him. He’ll clown himself, work hard, and play hard.

    Instead of stealing crab legs.

  38. BucEmUp Says:

Its about balance…throwing deep all the time.sets up the qb to throw picks. Those little dump offs keep the degemse honest.

    Balance!

  39. SB Says:

This may be the best downfield passing offense in history. Certainly the best since the 1999 Rams (who didn’t have a decent tight end). And you want to throw out-passes to a backup running back?

    Child, please.

    ………….

JOE!!!!!!!!! This is Definitely the Post of the Month.

In the running for post of the yr so far. 🙂

    99 Rams, cheating sons of a bit…

That’s your “greatest” show, in the playoffs, getting bailed out by the refs. F them. I’m glad they moved from St Louis.

  45. August 1976 Buc Says:

Hey Joe what does your comment in this post have to do with what the Bucs want. Adding Gio makes it a “PICK YOUR POISON” for opposing Defenses, which is what Brady and BA and every fan wants.

“This is an example of why Joe doesn’t get a certain someone’s adulation and fascination with throwing short passes in the flat to Giovani Bernard.

Why? The Bucs are built to throw deep. Just look at their receivers and tight ends. This ain’t the Belicheats and their conservative dink-and-dunk offense, no sir”

This move was NEVER about being a dink and dunk Patsies offense.

The Bucs added something they did not have. A CONSISTENT threat out of the Backfield.

This move will help the Bucs DOMINATE the Time of Possession.

The 3rd down success rate will be increased which directly leads to MORE points, and a MORE rested defense.

So being MORE consistent on 3rd down and for that matter more 2nd downs becoming 1st downs leads directly to the defense giving up LESS points.

I will say again, the Bucs offense is really a “PICK YOUR POISON” for other teams, and that’s WHY Gio was signed.

All the more Gio makes it a nightmare for teams to try and stop this Brady lead machine of an offense.

Brady embraces “NO RISK IT NO BISCUIT” by being a “PICK YOUR POISON” offense AND so does BA lol lol lol!!!!!!!

If the Rams were “The greatest show on Turf”
then the Bucs are “THE PICK YOUR POISON BAD AZZ BUCS”

  49. Pine Hills Says:

    Dingleberry just talks too much.

  50. DingleBerry Says:

Literally haven’t commented all week but I somehow talk too much.

Also Anonymous/Baby Grace, when Joe Tryon is a nothing special/borderline bust of a 1st round pick in 3 years because he has the tape of a late 3rd round/ early 4th round player you’ll see just how much I know about breaking down tape.

Neither Joe has an advanced understanding of the game, but the Joe who wrote this article is particularly silly and is a master of bad takes backed by horrendously flawed logic and deeply set biases. But you go right on ahead simping for him and Tryon/Trask.

  51. DingleBerry Says:

Another ridiculous and poorly thought take this Joe has made on the Gio Bernard subject is that passing to the RB somehow goes against Bruce Arians offensive principles when David Johnson literally had 80 catches for the Cardinals in 2018 when BA was still calling plays.

But tell me again how I don’t know anything.

  52. DingleBerry Says:

Sorry, that’s 2016 not 2018. Look it up for yourself. David Johnson had 80 catches for 879 yards in 2016 with BA calling the plays.

But yeah god forbid we pass it to the RB or call a run! We have to throw it deep every play or we’re going against our strength!

  53. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

“RoJo and Fournette are better than Bernard…”.
Except neither one can catch a cold.

“Evans, Godwin, Brown, Gronk, Brate and Miller and maybe Howard are better options than any of the RB’s.”
Except when they’re not. We gave the greatest situational football player of all time yet another option.
