Smelling Takeaways

June 17th, 2021

Butterfingers.

OK, so 13 weeks from tonight, the Bucs host the Cowboys to open the 2021 season. It’s not too early to write about that game.

And Joe is sensing the Bucs may just get a fumble recovery.

Why is that? Well, it seems Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott has fumblitis. Joe never knew this but thanks to CBS Sports, Joe does know now.

It seems no running back has more fumbles since 2014 than Elliott.

So Joe has a feeling Jordan Whitehead will blast Elliott with a shoulder to the gut and pop the ball loose. Either that or Devin White will rip the ball out of his hands.

If the Bucs defense can force Elliott into, say, two fumbles, the Bucs ought to roast the Cowboys like Texas brisket over an open fire. And not low and slow, either.

Bucs might not get a chance. If ole Zek shows up out of shape and as useless as last year, they might just cut his ass or trade him for Dallas cheerleaders. Guy has fallen off hard.

Man I’m in Dallas. I need this win! I proudly wear my Bucs gear and talk mad sh!t to my neighbors all things Tampa Bay. Beating them for the chip in hockey also. Lol
    Champa Bay!
    20-0 baby
    Go Bucs

  3. Steven007 Says:

And even with the number one ranked rushing defense the Cowboys will definitely try to rush the ball while Dak continues to work out the rust.

    LVD causes fumbles.

I don’t remember Adrian Peterson ever being much of a fumbler during the prime of his career. Kind of shocked that his name is there

Damn that is a surprising stat, didn’t he miss mist of last season? Is he the J. Winston of running backs??? Dallas has a terrible fan base so many fakers saying how great they are living in the far far past. Why Dak have so do so many endorsements? What has he done yet he has too many to list. America’s team my apple bottom jeans.

  8. SB Says:

    Always has been overrated.

Actually, I don’t think there is anything surprising about this at all nor do I think Zeke fumbles more than the others. There aren’t too many backs other than Mr. Elite Derrick Henry that handle the type of workload that Zeke does. The fumbles pretty much follow the workloads. See below. D Henry is an absolute beast btw. About 1260 touches, crazy production and only 10 fumbles.

Total touches from 2014 for the top 4 backs shown in that stat.

    1) Zeke 1654 touches
    2) Melvin Gordon 1530 touches
    3) David Johnson 1169 touches
    4) AP 1274 touches

    @Joe,

Do you by chance know how that compares to Tiki Barber in same timeframe?

That is a good point you made.

To put it in perspective 21 fumbles since 2015 is about 3 fumbles per season. It is a stretch to expect a couple in one game alone.

For years I was sick of the hype for so called America’s team. Loved seeing them get their asses kicked. If you ever spent much time in Texas you know what I mean.

  14. Cobraboy Says:

Think about the awesome drama if Elliot and Winston played in the same backfield!

Dude, you have to invest in a smoker! You’ll never put a roast over flames again. Promise.

Man this more or less shows how much drafting and paying running backs is useless in the modern era.

The Dallas Cowboys for the same draft capital and a bit more of a contract could have had Jalen Ramsay.

A top 5 cornerback or some fat declining out of shape running back that gives up on plays.

That insane contract to get out performed by your UDFA backup last year.

Snaps between fumbles. Top 5 rushers last year for career.

    Dalvin Cook 1 in 76.4
    Ezekiel Elliott 1 in 78.8
    Derrick Henry 1 in 125.8
    Josh Jacobs 1 in 189.3
    David Montgomery 1 in 197.3
