Is There Really Anything Left To Do?

June 16th, 2021

Crazy-good roster.

You know the general manager of a football team did one helluva job if one stares at the roster in mid-June and cannot find an immediate need or perhaps even a want.

But follically-challenged Billy Barnwell of BSPN tried to find a problem area as he lauded the job of Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht for keeping his Super Bowl champion roster loaded.

The only remote upgrade Barnwell could come up with after studying thoroughly is who will replace Joe Haeg.

Yes, really.

What’s left to do: This one is tough. The Bucs wouldn’t be in great shape if Brady suddenly collapsed in his age-44 season, but they brought back Blaine Gabbert and did use the second-round pick on Trask. If you squint and look for a problem, you could see that swing tackle role as a place to improve. Morgan Moses will probably end up as a starter somewhere, but I wonder if they would target Halapoulivaati Vaitai if the former Eagles tackle were cut by the Lions.

Who knew the Bucs needed another backup tackle to botch a touchdown pass in the Super Bowl? That’s a strong roster!

Look, guys will be cut in August that Joe is sure Licht will study closely. And hey, let’s say a tackle gets cut from (pick a team), imagine how he would go from depression to elation if he got a call from his agent asking if he wanted to chase a ring with the Bucs and play with Tom Brady?

Salary? What salary?

It’s a pretty complete team. I would have preferred a developmental swing tackle in the draft, and a backup CB, but that’s quibbling.

  2. James Says:

Cockrell had a great mini camp by all accounts and I trust him as the 4th CB

  3. Medicated Pete Says:

Licht is trying to look busy @ One Buc. He literally has all the bases covered (other than the debacle 2nd Rd pick). I’m still putting $ in the swear jar after that pick

  4. Joe in Michigan Says:

The King of Credibility, Dooosh, has said (over and over again) that the Bucs need a new starting Left Tackle, even though they won the Super Bowl with the other one.

  5. Kalind Says:

Quibbling here: but I’d love a solid depth corner and another good DT to spell Suh and Gholston.

I’m a big fan of KDavis but he’s got some work to do before OCs are worried about him. (GMC?)

  6. Goldenbuc Says:

GMC can’t come back because of his style of leadership with this team… He would be too busy comparing his Era with the team now. He went to Carolina and immediately started talking about Will Golstons hands who was in Tampa… Like they care

He has too much personality and connections to the bucs to come back, it would just be distracting

I thought Josh Wells did pretty well at swing tackle.

    What’s left to do?
    Work harder this year.
    Be more consistent
    Be better on offense
    Be better on defense
    Be historically great

  9. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The only thing left? Prepare for post Brady. Until then, we enjoy the ride!

  10. TOM Says:

I think Cockrell could replace Bunting. Let traing camp begin. I also think Griffin is better than AB’s boy Gabbert.

  11. lambeau Says:

Cockrell should get a shot at the slot.

  12. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

Robert Hainsey can play all five line positions…or so I’ve read on this site. Are we discounting him already…Joe…???

  13. JGhotier Says:

Besides looking like Gerard Depardieu in the movie Bogus?!

  14. JGhotier Says:

Did @TOM mean BA’s boy? Or did I miss out on the AB….
