“Dominant” Tristan Wirfs

June 2nd, 2021

Bucs RT Tristan Wirfs.

The new list is here. The new top-100 list is here! Tristan Wirfs is somebody now!

Readers of a certain age likely recall that famous scene in the movie “The Jerk,” where Steve Martin celebrated his name listed in the White Pages in a gas station parking lot.

(“Phone book? What the hell is a phone book, Joe?)

So yesterday, prickly Pete Prisco of CBS Sports debuted his annual Top-100 Players list. Football fans love to go over it each summer. And guess who is listed? Why, it’s Tristan Wirfs.

The Bucs’ right tackle had such a strong rookie season, he’s already among the NFL’s elite in Prisco’s mind, ranked No. 82.

As a rookie, he stepped in as the starter at right tackle and solidified a line that became one of the best in the league. He was dominant from the start of the season straight through the Super Bowl victory over Kansas City.

Joe sometimes has a hard time trying to figure out the best draft pick by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht. Mike Evans comes quickly to mind, and after that it’s Wirfs (if Devin White continues to play like he did in last year’s playoffs, he is certainly in the mix).

Even though Wirfs was a rookie last year, you could make a decent case that Wirfs is Licht’s best pick, given where he was selected and that he was the fourth tackle off the board.

What a horse this guy Wirfs is.

    This beast was ALREADY SOMEBODY!!……

    SOMEBODY GREAT!

  2. Medicated Pete Says:

What’s so encouraging is this team should get even better. Good times right now in Tampa

  3. Kentucky Buc Says:

Being on a loaded team works against u in these things. They try to spread it out amongst as many teams as they can. Shaq, DW, LVD all should be higher, among others.

  4. Casual Observer Says:

The whole OL looks solid. With really good backups too.

  5. SB Says:

Wirfs is the best RT in the League!
Maybe the best OL, who knows.

  6. FirstTimePoster Says:

The “white pages” are obviously racist. So are the “Yellow Pages” So much Asian hate!

This is where we are as a country. We’re screwed. But hey, GO BUCS and GO BOLTS!!! Bring it home again boys!

  7. Robert Says:

Wirfs is great! That said…. I told you idiots Brady would make this line look like pro bowlers.

  8. Buczilla Says:

This dude puts out a gosh awful list every year and unsurprisingly it’s even worse this year. Good to see some of our guys get ranked by national stiffs anyways though even if lesser players were ranked above them.

  9. SlyPirate Says:

    Underrated.

He’s the second best player on a completely stacked team.

  10. PassingThru Says:

Wirf’s is already near-elite and improving. That’s outright scary for a rookie OT. He should’ve been rated much higher, rather than at 82 and right behind Odell Beckham. That alone tells you that his list is based on reputation rather than production.

Ali Marpet should have been on that list as well.

  11. Duane Says:

Wirfs was a pleasant surprise. His footwork and athleticism are off the charts. Only one season, but this kid made a ton of noise from a position people only pay attention to when its failing. Still going with ME13. He’s has consistently been one of our best players regardless of what the roster looked like. Regardless, I look forward to the day where there is a large enough body of work for all of these guys that we review. In the post season, White was the player that had me the most excited.

  12. SC Bucs Fan Says:

I cannot believe 3 guys were picked infront of Wirfs

  13. Colonel Angus Says:

    Die gas pumper!

  14. 40Forever Says:

    Warner ahead of D white?

    Wagner ahead of David??

    Godwin ahead of Evans???

This author is still influenced by general media. Jensen should’ve made the list and Gronk and JPP too!

  15. Alanbucsfan Says:

Kirk Cousins is ranked higher than Baker Mayfield and Joe Burrow? Really?

  16. cmurda Says:

I’m already going all in on Wirfs merch. I’m a believer that this guy is going to be a first ballot Hall of Famer that is dominant on the O line for 20+ years

  17. SOEbuc Says:

Lets go back to back with Hainsey.

  18. JGhotier Says:

Didn’t Harold Goodwin at his introductory press conference say something to the effect of, “if this O-Line doesn’t perform well, it’ll be on me”? (Paraphrasing of course)…

Which leads me to wonder if BA did retire and Bowles, BL and HG are still on the coaching staff, who is the front-runner for our HC job? Is it any of those 3 in that scenario, is it an outside hire or is it somebody on the staff not named those 3 guys….

Feel that doesn’t get discussed much, but I find it interesting

p.s. this article must’ve been written by Steve Joe and not Lee Joe w/ that D. White comment :p jkjk, only kidding….not really though….it’s a metaphor 😂

  19. DrunkInYbor Says:

There are but a hand full of humans on this planet who could do what Wirfs did. He came in as a rookie and dominated, he was destroying dudes before he even learned the proper technique. I think he surprised himself how easy the transition was for him. He is a special special athlete he reminds me of Reggie White in that he just dominates and makes other massive humans look like kids. I think if he stays healthy could be on of the best draft picks of all-time. I have never seen a player like him before. He might be the best athlete on the team besides D White. You have seen his highlights you just got to remember how massive this guy is it’s incredible. I’ll never forget seeing him side by side with Donavon Smith and Wirfs frame was way way bigger.

  20. SlyPirate Says:

    Just Imagine …

You’re rookie Joe Tryon. 6’5, 250, 4.6 40, first round pick. You’re ready to make your mark on the NFL!

… and then you go against Wirfs on your first day of practice.

You’d have better luck getting around a brick wall.

… At least the wall doesn’t laugh at you.

  21. Stanglassman Says:

No Ali Marpet or Von Miller. I’d replace Marpet with Derwin James and Von Miller instead of JJ Watt. Good players but James can’t stay healthy and JJ’s not the player he use to be.

  22. Anonymous Says:

Well let’s get better by moving T (REX) WIRFS to the left side, that’s where everyone believes he can be just as dominant and that would make room for 6’ 7” 320lbs of Calvin (Cake Daddy) Ashley…if this guy can come in and give some dominant run blocking while learning pass blocking techniques…get both these guys ready for the 2022 season because I see Donavon chasing a check!

What the hell are you talking about? Von Miller?

I think you’re probably talking about Vita Vea (???) And what the hell does JJ Watt have to do with any of this?

  24. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Wirfs is awesome.
    Loved him from game one.
    And you know what?
I’ll NEVER talk sh!t about the guy for very simple reasons:

He’s an athletic standout and he played hard and smart EVERY down and was ALWAYS looking for the next man to block.
He NEVER took a play off.

This is the type of player I demand on my team.

Part time effort guys be gone.
