Brady Blasphemy From Byron Leftwich

June 4th, 2021

“Tom, I hope you know what I was really saying.”

Joe can only imagine the sh*t Tom Brady gave Byron Leftwich, assuming he heard what the Bucs’ offensive coordinator said publicly yesterday.

Leftwich dared to proclaim that losing is tolerable.

That’s not a Brady mindset and, per Leftwich, the two are in “constant contact.” So Joe hopes a clarification was issued, assuming Brady heard the comment on called Leftwich on it.

Leftwich was talking about the Tampa Bay offense getting a sluggish start last season but the team still opening with a 6-2 record. “I believe we started off 6-2 with no offseason; I’ll take that every year.”

Wait, what? You’ll take a 6-2 record every year?

So who is this mighty Bucs team OK losing to in 2021? The Rams in September? The Patriots in October? What about on Halloween at the slimy Saints?

Yes, Joe’s having a little fun here, but not too much. The goal for the Bucs and fans is the No. 1 seed in the NFC. That would deliver this veteran team the coveted opening-week bye in the playoffs. History says it will take 14 wins to lock up the No. 1 seed this season. So Joe has no warm and fuzzy feelings about a 6-2 start.

The bar was raised in February, and then again when Jason Licht worked his magic all offseason.

6-2? Pfffffttt.

The key words “with no offseason”. This year the team will have an offseason together so the comment isn’t applicable for this season.

  2. SOEbuc Says:

6-2 was a good record coming out in the record breaking NFL season of 2020 for the Bucs. Including a smack down to Rodgers in October. I am grinding my teeth to watch this 2021 offense.

  3. Swampbuc Says:

14-3 might not even do it

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Now…..before last year….I’ll bet Joe & most others would have taken 6-2 starts…..and even last year it felt pretty good in comparison….

    This year?……different story……

  5. RunrunpassRay Says:

As a Bucs fan since ‘76 I feel good at 6-2

  6. mark2001 Says:

I don’t think he meant that losing is OK, but in the situation we had last year with no offseason, that a 6-2 start is something he would take, considering all that took place last year

  7. Joe in Michigan Says:

I was ecstatic when the Bucs were 6-2 at the halfway point last year, and several of the trolls came up missing. That said, I understand and agree with the raised expectations for this season.

  8. DoooshLaRue Says:

“I believe we started off 6-2 with no offseason; I’ll take that every year.”
    __________

Probably the most eloquent statement he’s ever made.
    No slang or double negatives.

    Impressive

  9. David Says:

I take 6-2 every year over the last dozen years… Not this year.
I think 7-1 (potential loss to the Rams) is reasonable.

  10. BucEmUp Says:

Doosh….as much as I cannot stand Leftwhich.I have to agree

  11. SB Says:

    LOL Joe.
Drink another Bromosa. It is a fine Friday night!

  12. SB Says:

Uh Oh. Doosh is on the hunt.

  13. 6throundpick Says:

Bottom line: a Super Bowl repeat needs a playoff bye this year. Homefield advantage means something this time around.

  14. mark2001 Says:

Since we don’t have a late bye week, a first round bye would be just the think this team of aging vets could surely use to recharge their batteries.

  15. JGhotier Says:

Key word is “with no off-season” here. C’mon

  16. Defense Rules Says:

Tom Brady has won 7 Super Bowls as we all know. The ONLY ONE of those in which he played FOUR playoff games was this past year, with our Bucs. Every other winning SB year the Pats had a BYE during the 1st round of playoffs.

Just a guess, but I’d say that getting an opening-week BYE in the playoffs truly should be ‘coveted’ as you say Joe. And especially this year with its 17 game regular season schedule. That extra week to ‘heal up’ can be huge.

  17. Oneilbuc Says:

Brady didn’t win 7 superbowls on his own. Remember all those top defenses and those runningbacks and the coaches he had. Superbowls are team achievements. Stop with the Brady worshipping!!

  18. SB Says:

    LOL^^^^

  19. Pickgrin Says:

Byron – not Bryon – check the headline…..

Leftwich did give the qualifier of “no offseason”

Bucs will have spring practice next week and 3 preseason games to fine tune some things this year. None of that happened last year…. And Brady was brand new to the offense.

Thats basically what BL was saying without saying it…..

  20. Anonymous Says:

He’s (Leftwich) is not teaching English…it’s the X’s and O’s, that’s what important here!

  21. scooter Says:

stealers were ( 11-0 ) and fell apart. 1st round bye didn’t help the pack. Its how ur playing late December on and ur injury situation.

  22. Kentucky Buc Says:

By O’Neill’s reasoning Russell Wilson should have 4 rings, Rogers should have at least 3, Big Ben should have 5, and God knows how many Brees should have. Why don’t they ????

  23. Brandon Says:

No teams had an off-season. No teams had mini camps so the argument that we won it all despite neither is bogus. Somebody had to win it all and NOBODY had an off-season

  24. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

Onielbucyall, I guess Winsten would of done the same with the same teams and coaches. You’re forgetting he’s gone to 10 SB’s. Other than Randy Moss, Gronk and possibly Welker, name one other Hall of Fame receiver he’s had while on the Patriots? TB12 has never had weapons like he does now, why do think this team over came adversity and redeemed themselves to go on an 8 game winning streak? Do you think 30+ points per game helped and his leadership? Yes Bucs D was awesome down the stretch but that also because the players bought into his winning attitude and the veterans took it from there. Sorry he is White, except it and move on.

  25. Kentucky Buc Says:

@Brandon. True, but teams like KC, NO,Rams and many more had continuity.

  26. DRFEELGOOD Says:

We aren’t losing to the Rams. We did last year and Brady already has that game and the Pats game in one big circle. They aren’t beating us twice in a row. That being said, the Rams have a legit chance to win the Super Bowl in their home stadium the year after we did. That’d be an oddity.

  27. Ericb Says:

Yeah every other team has played together and qb knows the system. Brady came into a brand new system and won a freaking SB ..and obvious anyone says different has no idea about football…its an amazing feat..and the only difference from last year was hmmmm..oh TB12…now this year its yndefeated all the way!!!!

  28. Oneilbuc Says:

Listnfrmafar LOL 😆😂 sorry he’s white lol 😆😂 . I guess you’re mad that he’s throwing the ball to black receivers right? Man that was stupid lol 😆😂 . The last time I checked Dan Marino, John Elway, who I think was a better quarterback than Brady is also white. And the last time I checked Kyle Trask is also white and I wanted the bucs to draft him so what you’re are saying doesn’t make sense. And yes I love my people and will never be sell out. Maybe you hate Jamies because he’s black. Lol 😆🤣😂

  29. Oneilbuc Says:

Kentuckybuc Russell Wilson didn’t have Bill Belichick as his coach either. Belichick wouldn’t have called a pass play in that position. Wilson also has been 80 percent of his offense the past 3 or 4 years. And the problem with Pittsburgh is that they went away from running the ball like they used to do. And if it took Brady to come here for those guys to play well then when Brady leaves they all need to be cut . The only thing Brady helped was the offense. They gave him the power to change the offense to what he does well . And other quarterbacks that BA coached wasn’t given that opportunity. And with Trask it will be the same thing with him , if they do that trash no risk it no biscuit offense and no running game it will be the same results that Jamies had with that trash offense. Brady was given a good running game that’s why Rojo had 989 yards rushing and he missed 4 or 5 games. But yall try to forget about Rojo so yall can continue with the Brady worship lol 😆😂🤣 . Even Brady will tell yall that his teams were real good . Lol 😆🤣😂.

  30. Buc1987 Says:

Oneil…all I can do is laugh at you these days.

  31. SlyPirate Says:

The last decade we used to pray for wins. A 50-50 season was good.

1 year later we’re aghast at the notion of a loss.

    TB12 EFFECT

  32. Kentucky Buc Says:

That wasn’t the only season Wilson was loaded on offense and defense. Your arguments hold no water. Belichek has proven nothing without Brady. Your arguments are all but but but, if if if. There’s no substance. Brady has earned the right to have a say. Why would u turn your multi billion dollar franchise over to a guy who has made poor decisions on and off the field. You claim to know football but you think that the offense has nothing to do with the defense and vice versa. Playing defense with a lead as in every playoff game and the Super Bowl. Case in point. Once Bucs went up 30-21 against the aints they pinned their ears back and went after them. Same with the O. When they trust the D to hold they are more likely to go after the big play. Btw. The Belichek thing is debunked or were you in a coma last year.

  33. Oneilbuc Says:

Belichick has been in more superbowls than Brady. Seahawks offense wasn’t nothing before Wilson . They didn’t start winning until he got their. The Patriots were winning before Brady got there. You say the truth don’t hold water because it doesn’t worship Brady. And remember Belichick had the most opt outs in the NFL last season and they still won 7 games. And watch Belichick develop Mac Jones the same thing he develop Brady. Brady wasn’t even a starter in college half the time and people act like Brady came in the league and done what Wilson and Mahomes done when he first came. Lol 😆🤣😂 Belichick will always be the one who develop Brady rather you like or not .

  34. Oneilbuc Says:

Kentuckybuc now you want to give credit to the defense now . Lol 😆🤣 I thought it was all Brady??

  35. Jmarkbuc Says:

    O’Neill
    Your schtick is old.

  36. Kentucky Buc Says:

O’Neill, you are the Rob Parker of JBF. 👏 Congratulations. Unlike you O’Neill I actually watched all those games dating back before you were born. Belichek won Super Bowls before Brady. A lot of assistant coaches won Super Bowls over the years. Oh , let’s see . I guess Belichek developed Lawrence Taylor too. Belichek had the good fortune to have 2 of probably the 4 best players of all time. Although Lawrence Taylor is a Bill Parcells find. Brady developed himself. Once again I actually lived through those days as opposed to the modern day spin and narratives that are pushed. Brady went out and found his own throwing coaches who were unaffiliated with the Patriots . Willie Mcginnest introduced him to Guerrero his TB12 guru. I can debunk all your garbage all day long. Btw I was never one who didn’t give the Defense credit but once again you don’t understand the game. You see offense over here and defense over there. Brady did learn complimentary football and film study from BB . I’ll give u that. But that’s all.

  37. Youngbucs Says:

I’m actually starting to feel sorry for oneilbucs.

  38. Youngbucs Says:

That cult of winston has a strong hold on some people it’s crazy.

  39. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilbucs has no solid points everything is if or because smh.

  40. Oneilbuc Says:

Youngbucs don’t feel sorry for me because I feel sorry for you and the rest of you Brady worshipers. I noticed one thing about all of you Brady worshipers. If anyone one say that the Bucs won as a team and it wasn’t all because of Brady . Yall are the ones who gets mad not me . You bring up Jamies more than any one on here. You say I love Jamies and so much and I hate Brady. But yall are the ones who hate Jamies with a passion and hope he fails in life . I don’t hate people like that if Brady gets hurt I think some of yall will lose your minds . My quarterback is Brady for now because he’s on the team. But my future quarterback is Kyle Trask and I’m going to stand behind him just like I did Jamies , Freeman, King, Johnson, Trent Dillfer, Garcia, McCown, and even Brady who yall think I hate so much because I don’t make him the only reason why the bucs won last year and I never will do that for no quarterback. Brady did helpe us win but it wasn’t Brady all by himself. I just will never let anyone treat our other players who been Ballin like trash . And pretend that they were only good last year because of Brady . I told yall I’m a football fan first then a bucs fan second and ain’t no one player is bigger than the team . Go Bucs all day long !!!!

  41. Youngbucs Says:

Ummm yea I feel sorry for you.

  42. BUCFAN4LIFE Says:

I believe Brady was absolutely the the single most reason that ended the “Lost Decade” . He instilled a mindset into the other players of “I think we can win” into “I KNOW we will win” . Add Gronk into the mix to keep the locker room loose and there’s your winning formula . 6-2 I’ll take everyday too considering Brady admitted that he didn’t fully comprehend the playbook until halfway through the season and we all know how the rest of the year went .

  43. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

Onielbucyall, if Brady goes down there will be NO SB. Elway and Marino were great QB’s that played on GREAT teams both offense and defense with Hall of Fame coaches but neither came close to accomplishing what Brady has. As far as Wilson and Mahomes, they both won SB’s in their second season Brady in his first. Mahomes got his chance because Alex Smith got injured. I am NOT prejudice against the Bucs black WR’s I love watching and believe the best in the league. Oh, why do you think Patriots had the most opt outs? Because BB doesn’t appreciate them and by the way only 3 of the 8 were starters, Cannon, Chung and Hightower. None of which would change the course of the Patriots 2020 season. Last point, WHY do ALL of Brady’s teammates contribute their teams success to him? Far more credible than your point of view.

  44. I dont give a Buck Says:

Oniel, you have no clue. Belecheck only won 5 games with Bledsoe, who was the highest paid athlete of that era. Bill went 5and 11 with Bledsoe at QB, then started the next season with 2 losses with Bledsoe, before he got injured and Brady came in and turned the team into a winning franchize. Even the veterans believed in this rookie TB12. All the players said that he was a natural leader and he made them believe that they could go all the way. Please stop hating on TB12.

  45. Nerdelbaum Frink Says:

O’Neil, I’m a pats fan since before Brady. You seem to have zero idea what you’re talking about. You make half reasoned responses but you’re brain doesn’t follow through. If it was all teams and we shouldn’t or any significant praise to Brady, you’d expect to see Brady be comparable in wins to other quarterbacks over their careers, but you don’t. Luck doesn’t get you that many more rings than everyone else. The thing Brady has that others don’t is his ability to excel when things are at their worst and inspire his teammates to do so as well. It’s not just that he’s a great player and carries everyone else. He’s not even the most skilled at the position. It’s not that he just does good under pressure, as a lot of players do. You are correct teams win the game, but Brady’s effect is in elevating the whole team.

To think Brady isn’t worthy of worship and praise means you’re not using your brain and are responding out of emotional pettiness.

  46. Youngbucs Says:

Emotional pettiness I like that you nailed him exactly frink!!!!!

  47. Oneilbuc Says:

So to all yall I get it you guys are more Brady fans than bucs fan and I will understand that from a Patriot fan I have no beef with you . I’m talking to the bucs fan base Brady is a great quarterback and I will give him the credit for that , he played better than what I thought he would play. But I will never say that other players are good because of him . And to you Patriot fans you guys have always had good to great defenses and you know it. Superbowls will always be a team accomplishment vs a quarterback only accomplishment. And when you say that Marino had hall of fame players on defense and offense name some? Elway had 3 that I can remember and that’s Sharp, Atwater and Davis. I will never worship no man walking on the face of the earth. But is Brady a great quarterback yes I don’t have a problem with saying that. And by the way his first year he only threw 3 touchdowns in the whole playoffs that year. You can’t take credit away from BB or his defenses he gave the Patriots. Remember Dillon your runningback Antwan Smith who my family knows personally. All those guys contribute to that superbowl. Again name 1 year that Brady played with a bucs type of defense and won a superbowl . And I’m not talking about last year.

  48. Oneilbuc Says:

Youngbucs when you talk about emotional pettiness let me say it again. I don’t lose sleep regardless if the bucs goes 0 and 18 or if they go 18 and 0 I sleep the same way regardless who the quarterback is!! Trust me on that lol 😆🤣😂 . I laughed at people like you when the only thing someone has to do is give a player credit without giving Brady credit for him being good and people like you gets mad lol 😆 😆🤣😂.

  49. Steve M.] Says:

Oneil Buc. Players may not be good because of Brady as you say.
But players are made better because of Brady. There are many examples
in the press and directly from players, where Brady contacts both the Buc’s offense and defence and tells them based on the tape he’s watched, suggestions on how to play better and they admit it
makes them better.. Belichek can’t throw the ball and Brady can’t coach as good as Belichek. They are both Goats in their job.

  50. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I don’t really care what our starting record is…so long as the ending record gets us into the playoffs.

  51. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

Onielbucyall, we get it you’re a Brady hater, your not alone he has won so much there are thousands of haters. You feel like a loser compared to him. Curious to hear what Antwon Smith has to say about him. Both him and Corey Dillion were on their last legs and Brady got them to SB’s. Bill’s and Cleveland didn’t.

  52. Oneilbuc Says:

Antwan Smith love Brady and they are still friends up to this day. You call me a Brady hater and that’s far not the truth. You are mad because I don’t worship him . I give credit to the whole team not one guy. You only want to give credit to Brady and that’s my disagreement with all yall .
