“We Took That Attack-Mode Philosophy”

May 14th, 2021

Bucco Bruce Arians reacts to Tom Brady’s confession to struggling last season.

Joe just had to ask Bucs Super Bowl-winning coach Bucco Bruce Arians.

Yesterday, Joe brought word that park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, Bucs-Super-Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady admitted he was still struggling with Arians’ playbook “midway” through last season.

This was just a stunning admission to Joe. So when Arians took questions from reporters at today’s first rookie minicamp practice, Joe just had to ask about Brady’s confession.

So Joe asked Arians if he had the same impressions as Brady — that he was struggling with the playbook. Arians busted out laughing and said, “Oh yeah, oh yeah.”

So then Joe followed up, asking Arians when he and Brady began to get comfortable that the whole playbook could be opened up. Arians said he believes it was the loss to the Chiefs right before the bye week.

“Probably the Kansas City game,” Arians said when the playbook began sinking in for good with Brady.

“The second, third and fourth quarters [in the loss to the Chiefs] we started playing really, really well. From there on, we attacked. We took that attack-mode philosophy and I think we were on the same page from there on out.”

Arians had said in the past that he and his offense believed if they could have gotten the ball back once more late in the fourth quarter they would have pulled off a win in that late-November game.

Of course, the next time the Bucs took the field after the bye, they began their eight-game winning streak that culminated in Arians and Brady hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy aloft in the muggy Tampa night sky.

Joe finds it unreal that a quarterback struggling with the playbook still mostly won games, found ways to win games and got the Bucs to the playoffs.

This just adds to the Brady legacy, which is pretty damn extensive to begin with. Finding ways to win. That’s what savvy veterans do. That’s what it’s all about.

The defense also performed better after the bye week than they had since 2002. Just sayin…

Joe… please listen to the readers…. it’s time to scrub the WAY TOO LENGTHY Brady intro paragraph….please!!!! It has become a game changer for many and detracts from otherwise entertaining and informative article…..thank you

Halfway through the season we looked like garage. I figured it’d be one and done IF we made the playoffs. This year could be special start to finish but last year says you only need to get hot late. It’s good to a Buc fan these days. Loving it!

  4. Mitch Says:

@Richard I don’t know how long you’ve been reading here, but I can assure you that as long as Joebucsfan is operable the monikers will not go away.

  5. Buccaboo Says:

    MUCH agree with Richard

I skip over the monikers like I skip reading a Peter King or Thomas Bassinger article.

  8. Pryda30 Says:

I hate the paragraph of monikers on Brady it’s ridiculous

  9. Redblud Says:

Yes, I skip it also, but I would love it even more if it wasn’t there…I like the actual style, but only one nickname is needed

I agree with Richard… being saying it all the time…it’s a waste if time and reading space…the fact that “it’s your site” kinda feel disrespectfull to the readers …I guess is hard to fix excessive compulsive behaviour…decades of loosing can do that to the dedicated fan….get a grip Joe, this are winning times!!… 😁

    Joe,

I’m okay with your paragraph-of-monikers on everyone.

    It’s your signature.

You used to make the text a different color so avid followers could bypass it.

    It’s a great compromise.

  12. SB~LV Says:

Well there are many degrees of “ struggle “, my way of thinking about is comfortable and in sync , whatever it was they got up to speed. It was a great season and everyone from fans to ham and egger workers at OBP has to be giddy with anticipation

  13. Roscoe The Pirate Says:

With SlyPirate on the moniker thing,
different color text even if no hyperlinks anymore.

  14. SufferingSince76 Says:

You bitchers about the monikers are way more annoying than the monikers themselves. I’m betting whining is one of your personality traits not limited to this site.

  15. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Alvin is on record talking in the 3rd person and believing the Bucs will go 14-3.

  16. DingleBerry Says:

The thing that miffs me about the Brady nickname is how the heck can you justify giving our previous QB a moniker like “America’s Quarterback, Pro-bowler Jameis Winston” and then turn around and not show Brady the same kind of reverence or respect?

Plus it’s just ugly to look at and tedious to read, obviously I just skip it but still groan every time I see it. Shorten to something along the lines of “Greatest Quarterback of all time, Mr. Seven Rings Tom Brady” and literally no one would have an issue with it.

But Joe (one in particular) is extremely stubborn and probably gets his jolly’s off knowing that people don’t like it.

I skip over the paragraph of adjectives for Brady and any post referencing dingleberry, since there is never anything constructive to be found.
