Two-Man Hustle Patrol

Another accolade

Joe loves football stats uncorrupted by humans.

It’s why Joe is a big fan of the technology-driven data pumped out by the NFL, known as NextGen Stats. Sensors in uniforms and equipment are tracked and, poof, objective numbers appear.

The NFL shares only a sprinkle of the data with fans. Teams get a mountain more, but Joe appreciates the morsels given to the masses.

In the Twittering below, you can see that Lavonte David and Devin White were among the hustle champions among NFL defensive players last season. Both ranked in the Top-5 for ”Hustle Stops,” as defined below.

This is nothing new for David, who leads all NFL linebackers in the category by a wide margin over the past four years.

With nine-year veteran LB Kevin Minter in the mix behind the dynamic Super Bowl duo of White and David, Joe is hopeful special things will be drawn out of rookie inside linebackers K.J. Britt and Grant Stuard.

Looking at those Top-5 ‘Hustle Stop’ players, I see 3 Rnd 1 picks and 2 Rnd 2 picks. No place do I see a Rnd 5 (like Britt) or a Rnd 7 pick (Stuard). Every once in awhile we find a ‘diamond in the rough’, but that’s not the prevailing case it seems.

Since the Bucs will most likely keep 4 Inside LBs, I expect them to be LVD, White, Minter and ???. Since we have 5-year vet Joe Jones plus rookies Britt & Stuard on our current roster, I expect that only 1 of them will be on our 53-man roster come Sep. And since LVD and White never come off the field, I also expect that whoever else makes the team better be a special teams beast (like Minter is).

  2. SOEbuc Says:

White has gained so much from Lavonte. Future defensive captain.

  3. D1 Says:

    Defense,

During the rookie mini camp , both players (all of them but track) said that they are expected to contribute on special teams.

I think it’s safe to assume that they have been told that there’s no starting roles available. Depth and getting faster in special teams was the goal.

  4. 813bucboi Says:

watch out for KJ Britt…kid can play….

damn…lol…how did LSU not win more nattys…lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!

    Defense

I suspect you are right and that Britt will end up replacing Jack Cichy…..but it is possible that Stuard is a hybrid LB/S who will play special teams and perhaps replace a player like Andrew Adams.

I hope they both make the team……there’s also Wilcox who will likely replace Ryan Smith.

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

As for the hustle stats…..it doesn’t hurt that Devin White runs a 4.42 40……helps him with those 20 yard track-downs…..wasn’t it White that chased down Tyreek Hill in the SB?

  8. Fred Orlando Says:

Which coach was it that first said: “Good things happen to those who pursue”?

  9. Fred Orlando Says:

I liked Jack Cichy. He made some darned good heads-up plays.

  10. D1 Says:

    Tampa bay bucs fan,

Jack Cinchy isn’t on the roster.

LIB. Quinton Bell, Joe Jones, Kevin Minter , Britt, Stuard, White, David

OLB. Cam Gill, Laderius Hamilton, Anthony Nelson, Tryon, Barrett and JPP.

  11. Mikadeemas Says:

White just ran faster than his combine time three days ago. 4.37!! GO BUCS!! WORLD CHAMPIONS, that is!!!

    Beasts. Nuff said

  13. BuucccNASTY Says:

Imagine how many more each of our individual bucs if they weren’t eating into each others lol I’m happy we have both on one team, but you can’t tell me LVD hasn’t beat white to the ball on a few more of what would be qualifying plays and visa versa

Imagine if “the sickness” stats were uncorrupted by humans as well.

2020 — Brady presence in locker room got us to the SB, but our D chased P Mahomes 497 yards. D will be reason we win SB again.

2021 – Brady will put up 35+ points every game while tying his shoelaces. We are THAT freaking loaded on offense.

But we will win 2021 SB because our D will suck the life out of our opponents. Making life a cakewalk for Brady et al… going to be a banner year for Godwin, AB, ME13, Gronk, Brate. Gio B will have 500 receiving yards, too. Brady might hit 6K yards and 60 TD’s through 20 games.

Injury bug is our only voodoo. Mainly keeping Brady healthy.

  17. Bucs Repeat 2022 Says:

I agree with the post above , OJ Howard will be another target , Injury bug is our only voodoo. Mainly keeping Brady healthy.
Mahomes -Brady rematch at So Fi Stadium in 2022 same result , maybe Chiefs will score a couple of TD’s ?? Case closed

  18. REDZONE BA Says:

    @Bucs Repeat – Agree – will be Bucs/Chief SB again….can’t wait.

I am pressed to find a superior opponent on 2021 schedule. We will lose a few games, just because we are now the HUNTED. So what? We lose 3 or 4 games.

Would LOVE another Bucs/Chief SB. Mahomes is so much fun to watch. But even if our D is just slows down Mahomes, Brady is still good for 35 points with this offense on a bad day….mercy at the weapons…..who do ya stop???

    2021 SB Prediction: Bucs 51 Chiefs 41

  19. lambeau Says:

I think Stuard and Britt have to beat out Joe Jones–that will be tough.

  20. Red86 Says:

    @ 813

Lack of top quarterbacks playing for LSU. And Les Miles bad play calling at critical time. Focused too much on running the ball for a while. LSU should have been Bama before Bama became the program it is today.

  21. TOM Says:

I just want to say OJ Howard sucks. Quit making him out to be something he isn’t.
