Tristan Wirfs The Athlete

May 29th, 2021

Video breakdown.

How about some offensive line adult entertainment on this Memorial Day Weekend Saturday?

Joe doesn’t think folks give enough credit for what a steal Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht executed when he selected tree-carrying offensive tackle monster Tristan Wirfs.

There just is no way people with a straight face could have predicted Wirfs’ domination in his rookie year. Already you could make an argument Wirfs is the best right tackle in Bucs history.

We knew from his combine numbers that Wirfs was a freak of nature. And when you see the dude carrying around a tree, you know that is something you would normally read about in fairy tales. A real life Paul Bunyon!

And then there is the video of Wirfs — on two different occasions — jumping out of a pool. How?

The Scouting Academy pumped out a video on Twitter that broke down a play where Wirfs pancaked a Giants defensive lineman. A mortal would have gotten his feet tangled up with the move this guy made on Wirfs, but Wirfs dances with the guy, never loses balance, and puts his arse on the turf.

If Wirfs is/was this good as a rookie, imagine how he will own defensive ends in a couple of years when he reaches his athletic peak.

Wirfs has already ascended to near-elite at RT. For a rookie, that’s insane.

  2. August 1976 Buc Says:

Cam Jordan already hates playing him already. Wirfs shut his flapping jaws. GO BUCS!!!!!

  3. lambeau Says:

    Great clip, Joe–thanks!

  4. Exkwood Says:

    Best RT in the game

  5. BillyBucoff Says:

    More to come lol
This guy has Hall of Fame written all over him.

I know thats a stretch after one rookie season, but man his tools and athleticism are available in spades.

So glad our drafts aren’t looking like we purposely picked the guy nobody knew.
To hit home on so many draft picks from NEED, is amazing and quite lucky.

Thats why I agree with Joe this pick can’t possibly be his BEST.
Last of the big 4 and easily the best.
Becton is still a beast though.

  6. SB Says:

I wanted Wirfs over ALL the others from the get go.
    LOVE Iowa linemen

  7. 40Forever Says:

He shut down Cam H and The Donald, but needs revenge on Aaron for that hip throw!!!

  8. 40Forever Says:

    Meant Cam J

  9. Alanbucsfan Says:

Is that RoJo chipping the lineman and then catching a pass from Brady for 8-9 yards?

  10. BillyBucoff Says:

    Lol if he catches it.
    Well timed snip it.

Cant wait to see Gio on that chip and catch.
    Gonna be so smooth looking.

Our screen game has sucked so long man.
    Charles Simms IMO

We aint gonna know what hit us.
    Neither is the other team.

  11. Hodad Says:

That is a thing of beauty. He doesn’t just recover, and push the guy out of the pocket, he knocks his arse to the ground!

  12. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Each lineman dominated. D Smith with the quick shove. Huge pocket. Give Brady time and… we know the rest.

  13. m0j0 Says:

    Wirfs to First!

  14. Bucamania Says:

The hip throw was Kahil Mack. Dude gave up one sack his rookie year. INSANE

  15. johnny o Says:

hey kids: there’s three other teams out there with tackles drafted before TW who we need to show some sympathy toward. sorry suckers! GO BUCS!

  16. BUCFAN4LIFE Says:

Wirf’s the 2nd coming of Paul Gruber only better . He’ll be here a VERY long time and a HOF bust will be awaiting him . He’s an absolute BEAST !

  17. BUCFAN4LIFE Says:

It STILL freaks me out the video of him jumping out of 3 feet of water onto the deck of a pool . Y’all try doing that . Betcha’ can’t .

  18. Lets Roll Says:

    @BUCFAN,

Legend has it, he jumped out of the pool with an ENTIRE tree on his back.

  19. Frankinthe512 Says:

The one pick in the nfl draft that Mel Kiper was correct on as best in the draft

  20. Trey Long Says:

Online is crucial. Wirfs is rare talent.
The GOAT with a clean pocket? Thats a W.

  21. TheBradyBunch Says:

I wanted Benton and Wirfs was my third choice. So glad I was wrong about him.

  22. TheBradyBunch Says:

    Becton

  23. Aceofaerospace Says:

How? How the hell? How did he fall to us? He should have been first lineman off the board. Thank the good Lord for the scouts that drafted before us.

  24. SlyPirate Says:

Every lineman was solid on that play. Three open receivers, too.

  25. Grandma Ro Says:

He is the most kind hearted boy ever. Also the best. The bucs are very to have him. Love this man. Tom you are very lucky to have him to ptotect you…🤗

  26. teacherman777 Says:

    Vita Vea and Tristan Wirfs.

    Magical picks!

We should have drafted a stud DT in round 2 this year.

But I’m happy we drafted a swing lineman in round 3.

Now we have Stinnie and this Notre Dame guy. Awesome.

Depth on the o-line is vital!

  27. pablothepoolboy Says:

Yeah from what I remember Wirfs was classified as the best lineman in that draft by all the pundits so how was he the last of the big 4 or 5 taken? And a heads up by JL to move up a spot so no one else would get him.

  28. The Red Mirage Says:

Love the kid, he flat out mauls dudes with a smile on his face.

  29. Big Cheese Says:

I’m from Iowa City and have meant Tristan many times. Not only is he the best to come out of Iowa he is the nicest guy you guys will ever meet. We are big Buc fans now.

  30. HawkPhan Says:

Tristan is a beast and should have gone earlier in the draft in my opinion. Couldn’t have worked out any better than it did though. Being able to protect the GOAT his rookie year, and doing it so well he got himself a ring…. priceless. Made most the teams that passed on him look silly. I’ve been watching him since before he arrived at Iowa, back when he didn’t even understand how strong or skilled he truly was. He finished his senior year (high school) football season and immediately cut weight to wrestle and was a state champ. Pretty sure he broke the Iowa shot put record shortly after. Dude is a FREAK athlete to say the least. His box jump(s) from the pool, his hang clean to break Scherf’s record, and all the pancakes along the way have been so fun to watch. Can’t wait to see him next season. Glad the world can see what we here in Iowa have been watching for years. Enjoy, you got yourself a great player and awesome human being.

Looking to get better is always the mission, I’m in the belief that T Wirfs can also become a NASTY left tackle, putting it out there now, our current left tackle will more than likely “chase a check” after the 2021 season, so I’m saying give T Wirfs some time at left tackle and give undrafted free agent Calvin “Cake Daddy” Ashley some work at right tackle and do battle with our Super Bowl Champ’s backup O’linemen for that 2022 starting right tackle job, we are the Champs but we must continue to get better to become a DYNASTY!! Go BUCS!!
