”He Retained Everything”

May 25th, 2021

Rookie Grant Stuard

Now is the time of year that a Mr. Irrelevant draft pick needs to impress coaches at every turn.

Make them think they got a promising fifth-round pick, rather than the last man taken in the NFL Draft’s last round.

Joe’s referring to University of Houston linebacker Grant Stuard, the 259th pick in last month’s NFL Draft. He impressed Bucco Bruce Arians with his quick-study ways and vocal leadership at rookie minicamp. And that rolled over to today’s opening day of spring practice with veterans.

”He retained everything,” Arians said of Stuard today, referring to his rookie-week introduction to the Bucs’ playbook.

“He was flying around. His hip’s a little bit better. He strained his hip when he was here before. But looks very, very bright.”

Joe’s happy for the rookie, and you can bet Arians loves that Stuard is playing through an injury. Arians values that trait greatly.

Yes, it’s a post-Super-Bowl offseason with all starters returning. Potential special team players have reached the level of interesting.

I am really cheering for this guy to make the team. His film is quite impressive. He is an excellent tackler and has a very high motor that never stops.

Nothing about Kevin minters play suggests irreplaceable. He was almost always a step to late to make a play and not very good in coverage
