Gotta Go With The Champs!

Champions until further notice. (Photo courtesy of Buccaneers.com.)

So last night there was an interesting element that came across Joe’s Twitter timeline. This shouldn’t be an argument.

The NFL on CBS Twitter feed sent out a tweet asking which was the best quarterback-wide receiver duo in the game. You can see the photo below to view the choices.

Should there be any doubt? Joe thinks it should be Mike Evans and park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, smartphone-phobic, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, roller-coaster-scared, numbers-rules-peeved, Bucs-Super-Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady.

Let’s think about this for a second, as if it should take that long.

Evans has never had a season with less than 1,000 yards receiving. Never. Zero. No other NFL player who has played seven or more years like Evans has can say that. Not today. Not yesterday. Not last century. Nobody not named “Mike Evans.”

And who does Evans have throwing him passes? Some guy who has seven rings and is the greatest.

How you gonna beat that? Straight up! How you beat that? Dak Prescott and Amari Cooper, really? Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins? C’mon now!

If you want to argue Davante Adams and Aaron Rodgers, Joe will listen. If you come at Joe with Cheetah Hill and Pat Mahomes, Joe will offer respect, and then point at the score of the Chiefs-Bucs Super Bowl and ask you where the Chiefs’ touchdown came from?

Oh, they didn’t have a touchdown? Couldn’t score a touchdown in the biggest game when they needed it the most? Funny.

No sir, right now the Bucs are champs. And so too is the duo of Brady and Evans. Scoreboard.

Here’s to seeing Brady, Evans and Godwin (and the o line), healthy all year… Two 1000 yd, 10+ TD receivers

  2. Swampbuc Says:

    Absolutely!

  3. ModHairKen Says:

Mike Evans is so good, it is almost annoying when they throw to anyone else. The string of games he put together to get to 1,000, while hurt. Amazing. No one can take a ball away from him. No one can out-jump him. And he has deceptive speed.

  4. Asdf Says:

Love this post by a fired up Joe. I would have loved for Evan’s to have a TD in the super bowl. Will just have to do it this year.

  5. Sport Says:

ME would be great with a jugs machine as a QB. He made Manziel great. He greatly helped JW with his crazy catch radius. And now Brady comes in and does what Brady does.

I don’t care about rankings like this, at all. I do however care that ME was OK with the ball being spread around AND he still got his his without being a diva!

    HOF First Ballot!

    In BA I Trust!

Love Evans but he drops way too many passes and is shut down too often to be in the class of some on this list.

He had 4 games in 2020 where he caught 2 or less passes.

He had another 3 games in 2020 where he only caught 3 passes.

In Tampa he’s a great player but he’d be getting a lot of heat for his production in other markets.

Hopefully 2021 is explosive and healthy for he and Godwin

  7. Bojim Says:

I agree bucsbro. He only got 1000 yds this season. You’re a ding dong.

Evans is still the bell cow. While his numbers were down due to the extra talent, he still broke the NFL record with 8 first 1,000 yard seasons. It’s funny, his stats are only half his game. He gets the most double coverage. He is a pretty good blocker Evans led the NFL in Drawing pass inference catches and yards. The Bucs received more DPI yards than anyone in the NFL this year. Evans only only had 40 yards in the Super bowl, but he made everyone else a star. AB catches a 1 yard TD after Evans got a DPI in the end zone on a drive made possible on another DPI for 34 yards with the half running out. Evans drew a defensive holding to wipe away a Brady interception, not even intended for him.

Evans sets NFL records, leads league in DPIs, mentors Godwin and others, blocks some, never complained when his stats went down, and offered to take a cut in pay so they’d keep Godwin. Given all that , does anyone have a better WR when it comes to being a prototype teammate and team player

  9. Bucs Bro Says:

    @Bojim

1,000 yard seasons aren’t some huge benchmark ha ha hahahahahahahahahahahahahah ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha hahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahaha

To get a 1,000 yards you only need to average 62.5 yards a game. Again for those that have reading comprehension issues I like Evans, he’s definitely the Bucs best ever WR. But if you have 7 games with 3 or less catches you are not elite.

I hope Mike is healthy all year and works on his focus so the drops are limited but the film does not lie.

  10. Buczilla Says:

The best football player ever and the best receiver over the last 4 years (Shhhh…Ira and Simms). No-brainer for me.

  11. John Sinclear Says:

The Chiefs DID get a touchdown in Tampa, Super Bowl week-end. I saw the photo. Their plane “touch down” landing at Tampa International. The caption was “Only touchdown the Chiefs got in Tampa.”

  12. Trey Long Says:

Evans is absolutely great. Double him and Godwin?
Now AB, Brate, Howard, Miller, or Lennie and Gronk in single coverage. Now these guys actually know what they’re doing? They figured out offense AND defense on the fly last year. Can’t wait. Stay healthy boys!

  13. Ben green Says:

Evans reminds me of Paul Pierce getting wheeled of the court in a wheelchair, then coming back 20 minutes later. He’s the boy who cries wolf. The next time I see him hobbling around and writhing in pain it better be for real. He doesn’t exactly exude toughness.

  14. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

Agreed. There is simply no argument. Evans is the best receiver in the game. Brady is the best QB in the game. Best combo? QED.

  15. Denny Gay Says:

Why are the Cowboys even considered?
