Antoine Winfield Said 2021 Bucs Could Be “Crazy And Ridiculous”

May 19th, 2021

Super excited

The Bucs are coming off a Super Bowl win. They throttled the unstoppable offense of the Chiefs. What is there for an encore?

That’s what Bucs safety Antoine Winfield is geeked for. He thinks, like Carlton Davis does, the Bucs actually will be a better team this year.

In appearing on “Brother from Another” with Michael Holley and Michael Smith, seen on Peacock, Winfield said with the Bucs bringing all 22+1 starters back and young players like himself getting valuable experience, who knows how much better the Bucs can be?

“I feel so much better,” Winfield said of the experience of the Bucs returning. “Everybody has already played with each other for a year. We have a year under our belt. I feel like this year it is going to be crazy and ridiculous to see how we do.

“I’ve got a good feeling about it. It is cool having everybody back. I did not think we were going to get everybody back. We got everybody back. We got every single person back which is impressive. The sky is the limit for us. I can’t wait to see what we do.”

Winfield may be onto something. Think about it: You have the best quarterback who played roughly 75 percent of the regular season without knowing the playbook.

You have a defense that, hopefully, will have beastly Vita Vea for a full season. You have a truly dangerous tight end in O.J. Howard returning. And, furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing Antonio Brown will be available for the full year and likely more involved in the offense.

If these guys stay healthy, there’s no telling what the Bucs might be able to accomplish.

Here comes number 3 to the the 1 to the ✌️

Yeah, if the guys stay healthy., but that’s a big “if” – especially since our back-up depth on defense is not particularly strong. Still, it’s certainly better than having holes in our starting lineup

All Super Bowl winners embark into the next season with the euphoric feeling they are about to begin a dynasty. Nothing wrong with confidence, but overconfidence is something that requires a no-entry guard at the door.
Case in point can be referenced by the Bucs first SB win.
The following season, with most players returning, they opened in Philly with a dominating defensive effort and cruised to an easy win. From there it was all downhill and they finished 7-9, becoming members of the short list of dubious SB winning failures who missed the playoffs the following year.
No matter how good you are, there is some luck involved. The well discussed New Orleans fumble and Aaron Rodgers perplexing decision to not to darn near walk into the end zone to make it a two point NFC title game game with a chance to tie were both great breaks for the Bucs.
Look, I’m with those who wish for a 20-0 season. But the reality of things say that is a near impossibility. This team looks great on paper, but in a league built around injuries it often comes down to depth to have a successful season.
Also, let us not forget how porous this pass defense was last year prior to the playoffs.
I’ll stick with the old ‘one game at a time’ cliche and hope for 1-0 after game one. Ill repeat the same outlook every week. It makes each game fun to anticipate and will make a chance to repeat more fulfilling if the opportunity presents itself.
For me, September can’t get here soon enough.

it is exciting….. still have to take one game at a time

Should be a great season for us. Let’s go Bucs

JA is right–porous pass defense is my worry; Antoine needs to coach up his boys!

All this talk is making me very nervous!

I like the comment to take it one game at a time. Last year at 7-5, there were serious questions about how far this team could go. And I, like a lot of people, thought the NO playoff game would be the end. Then I felt the same way about GB. Then I thought the Chiefs would be the end.

Yeah, I was wrong. The NO-GB-KC streak has to be one of the best three game runs in the last 20 years. Like the NYG when they beat the undefeated Patriots.

But this upcoming year can easily be derailed by apathy. Or false expectations. Or injuries. Or bad breaks. Or hot hands. Remember last time Bucs won the SB what happened the following year.

So, I hope the players just stay focused on Dallas.

injury, the only curse for 28-0…

  12. Mitch Says:

I feel like the bucs have quality depth. They returned their top 16 players on offense and top 21 players on defense by snap count from last year.

  13. WiscoJoe Says:

A.B. just had knee surgery and hasn’t officially been announced let’s slow our role with him coming back. Interesting that they traded up for Dardon who is a clone of A.B.

  14. Mitch Says:

@WiscoJoe Arians said he wants AB back and AB wants to be back he just needs a scope to clean out his knee before passing his physical. He’ll be able to sign before training camp.

  15. The Red Mirage Says:

OJ Howard stays hurt, trade him at the deadline for whatever you can get, “Looks like Tarzan plays like Jane.”
Cam Brate and Gronk more than sufficient. Just go back and watch the playoffs and Super Bowl, nuff said.

  16. Pewter Power Says:

I hated the chiefs for their arrogance and I was so glad they got smashed and humbled on the way to our second super bowl trophy.

Having said that our players are kind of acting as if they played the chiefs at full strength and the pass rush was dominate just because that’s who they were all year. Lol I think we’ll be right back in the Super Bowl but I see some kind of embarrassing loss this year and it’s getting humbled

  17. SlyPirate Says:

Bruce Blahak … “28-0”. Haven’t of thought of it that way.

    NFL Record = 23

The Bucs could top that before the end of the season!

  18. SufferingSince76 Says:

Just show them Buc highlights from the year after the SB victory if they get too cocky. Hopefully that won’t be needed.

  19. Mike Says:

This team found the next level late last year. They have proven they can be exceptional. Hopefully, they can be motivated to continue improving and be even better as a team this upcoming season.

  20. Weebs10 Says:

Ole Tommy is probably already working on a legacy speech for training camp. 1 is nice…2 in a row is legendary. They need to stay hungry. They’re chasing being talked about as one of the greatest teams ever if they do it again. Chase greatness boys!!!
