“I Think We’ll Be Even Better”

May 18th, 2021

Big talk from a Bucs defensive back

Our beloved Buccaneers are riding an eight-game winning streak and can proudly say they annihilated the Chiefs in the Super Bowl.

So how much better can they really get? That’s the ultimate question.

Undefeated? Perhaps 15-2 and a No. 1 seed, en route to back-to-back Super Bowls?

Bucs cornerback Carlton Davis didn’t put numbers on a prediction, but he confidently explained on the Behind The Mask podcast why he thinks his teammates are just scratching the surface.

”I think we’ll be better than what we were last year, just because of the way we came together,” Davis said his 2021 prediction. ”It was that COVID protocol and we were just getting to know each other. The offensive was getting their chemistry down. We had new players like Antoine [Winfield, Jr.] coming in learning the defense. As a young secondary we were still growing and, you know, learning. So I think this year we’ll be even better. Our chemistry will be even better. The communication will be better. We know how each other play. They know I like to press; you know what I’m saying. I know my safeties will come down and hit. And we just know each other’s games that much more. So I think we’ll be able to play off each other better, especially in the back end.”

Eighty-eight days from the preseason kickoff.

injuries….. we were VERY fortunate last year. Will we be that lucky again?

  2. Swampbuc Says:

Mental acuity — be even hungriedr. It’s very hard, subconsciously there is an undectable “satisfaction” that breeds latent complacency. That extra film study is on your own time, maybe you start to believe you have it down because you’ve studied enough.

That and injuries are the enemies.

  3. SOEbuc Says:

Me too. Davis went down last year and it was a scary situation. Weinfield as well. With the resign of Cockrell and drafting Wilcox and possibly a talented backup for the “Licht amount” in FA.

  4. Fred Orlando Says:

I wanna see that rookie with the 4.31 speed get a few plays in.

  5. Fred Orlando Says:

Robert, no one can forsee the injuries. Well, except for OJ.
The fact is: we seem to have good trainers and fairly sturdy players. I’m curious to see how Darden holds up
    We should call him pinball.

  6. CocoaBeachBuc Says:

Fred Orlando…I like it. The Pinball Wizard…

  7. crazyBucs_CL Says:

they should start practicing….no one can predict, you base your outcome on practicing(which our guys opted out), and injuries which are less when you practice. 31 teams are looking every sequence of our play… is going to be the prime goal/success to every team to beat us. they better start getting ready….

  8. DrunkInYbor Says:

It’s so nice that the coaching staff plays to the strengths of our players. It’s just been a breath of fresh air. We had so many system guys that we lost some really good players that went on to have huge success. See to me this is really coaching figuring out what your talent does beat them designing the game plan around that rather then this is the system I need you to x even though your better at y because my system says you need to be a x. It’s great to a Bucs fan right now. Go Bucs!!

  9. Slugglife Says:

Haha. Kind of nice to be looking at the next season as defending champions.

It’s been a while boys. Wear those shirts and hats with pride. Be fueled by the hate! LVD gets the pro bowl nod this year along with DWhite. That will be awesome for those two guys. And don’t bet against Wirfs making it either.

  10. Doctor Stroud Says:

I would have preferred that they drafted another CB high in the last draft, but alas, what Mr. Davis is saying makes me feel a lot better. Not having Brees around to victimize the secondary will be even better. The Bucs have wrecked the league and have left grown men crying in their wake!

  11. Tampabaybucfan Says:

There is no reason other than injuries that we shouldn’t be better…..we start with a healthy OJ (supposedly) and have added Gio Bernard & Darden…..we have good depth on the Oline and everyone has more experience.

The Defense, especially the younger players.will be more experience….we have all our coaches back…..the schedule at least looks easier….

Complacency should be in check by Brady.

  12. SlyPirate Says:

Fred Orlando … “No one can foresee the injuries. Well, except for OJ.”

Brutal but unfortunately true. There should be a betting line on it.

  13. Buckaroo Boozie Says:

Looking at schedule… Patriots could easily be 3-0 when the Buccaneers sail into
    Foxborough at a tougher 3-0 …

    It’s a Pirates Life for me…

    Bucs 51
    Pats 17

Nobody steps up for BIG GAMES like the “RING LEADER” 💥

  14. Buc4evr Says:

Injuries, over confidence, other teams hunting us and making each game with us their SB. The Bucs need to be very careful and not get overconfident. I don’t care what the strength of schedule is, the path back to the top will be very difficult this season.

  15. Tbbucs3 Says:

The Bucs resigned their entire Super Bowl Team.

The Patriots signed Brian Hoyer today, I think we’ll be fine.

  16. SOEbuc Says:

    Buc4evr

Lol no one’s overconfident. Every coach and player on this returning super bowl roster is coming to bring their a-game yaar two and our roster ain’t bad.

  17. Hope springs eternal Says:

With last years experience and a full training camp/preseason this year should be even better. Barring major injuries to key players, especially Tom.
