NFL Owes Alex Cappa A Lot Of Money

April 7th, 2021

No matter the year, there are benefits to being the NFL’s No. 94 overall draft pick and playing like you were taken No. 34 overall.

Across the NFL in 2018, there were several homerun draft picks at offensive line in addition to absolute busts. Bucs right guard Alex Cappa was one of the success stories, as Tampa Bay traded up to get him very late in Round 3 at No. 94 overall.

So the Bucs have been getting cheap and effective labor from Cappa, but the NFL rewards guys in that boat with performance bonuses negotiated into the league’s labor deal.

Cappa, per Ben Volin of the Boston Globe, is this year’s winner of the most performance-bonus loot. Cappa missed the playoffs but logged over 1,000 snaps and will score $622,056, but the catch is he doesn’t get the money until at least 2024, the result of a pandemic amendment driven by lost revenue.

Joe finds that wild. Cappa, 26, could be retired by 2026 when he gets a check in the mail that amounts to a Lotto victory at Circle K.

Many Bucs that have outplayed their draft status have scored big on performance pay over the years. Jordan Whitehead (2018 fourth-round pick) is a great example.

Well deserved, IMO. He has played well lately when not injured.

Dude is tougher than woodpecker lips.

    He defines “big ugly.”

I’d rather all Bucs fans send Stinnie $5 bucks on Venmo. Unsung hero

Cappa is well in his way to being a top Guard in the League.
Just a brawler! Next to Jensen, those guys intimate defensive players- you can see it!.
Glad hes getting rewarded for it.

But what does Nasty mean Joe?

  6. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

The only pick on my wishlist I actually got right the past couple years…which is why I didn’t do a wishlist last year, lol.

It amazes me how many people here did not want him at first.

Not quite Bobby Bonilla, but a beach condo, maybe?

I got to give it to Licht and his scouts. They can find offensive linemen in division 2 schools. He has drafted some good linemen.

This goes to show our scout team is legit in offensive lineman. Cappa and Ali both small schools and Ali has played ever position on the line. Thank you JL. Keep em coming

    Pay the man!

Our OL all deserve bonuses. I’ve never seen a Bucs QB with a cleaner uni than TB12 this season. He took some sacks and hits early, but dayum after week 8, it was incredible.

    Well deserved.

Cappa and Marpet have been small school steals. Make it a Trifecta, draft the Meinerz kid from Whitewater. We’ll need a Center if Jenson leaves. He can do it.
