Joe Tryon Says He Met With Bucs Twice, Todd Bowles Impressed

April 30th, 2021

New Bucs OLB/DE Joe Tryon, Tampa Bay’s first-round pick, seems very comfortable with the local media but unready yet to show his big personality.

And Joe suspects he has one, given how Bucco Bruce Arians was raving about the guy’s passion during their shared news conference this afternoon.

After all, Joe can’t think of a top edge rusher who isn’t a character. It’s just how those dudes are usually wired.

Joe asked Tryon how many times he met with the Bucs during the pre-draft process and what stood out. Tryon replied that he had two meetings and that he was impressed by and had “a good talk” with defensive coordinator Todd Bowles. Not much detail from Tryon beyond saying he ”meshed well,” and Bowles was the only Bucs official he referenced.

But Joe will go back to how excited Arians sounded about Tryon. It wasn’t forced, and it was 15 hours after the pick. It really sounded like Arians was jacked up to get a no BS, hard-working beast of talent for oustside linebackers coach Larry Foote to mold in a hurry.

After reading about his versatility and pro day numbers I believe the Bucs picked the best player that is suited well for this team.

If Todd Bowles approves, I’m down with it.

    @ SlyPirate

i saw that too. i’m willing to give him the benefit of doubt and say that maybe he was just nervous as hell.

even if he somehow didn’t know, i’m not bothered by it. as long as he hunts QBs, and forces RBs inside for White and David to clean up, he can call Joe Biden coach!
