Depressing News About Former Bucs LB

April 22nd, 2021

In bad shape.

Joe hates to type this kind of story.

It seems former Bucs linebacker Geno Hayes is clinging to life, based on a story this morning from Jim Henry of the Tallahassee Democrat.

The former Bucs, Jags and Florida State linebacker, Hayes, 33, has a dire liver condition and is under hospice care at his mother’s home in Georgia, Henry reports.

Billy Ray Reddick, a former teammate at Madison County High School and one of Hayes’ closest friends, has remained in contact with Hayes and other high school teammates through a group text chat.

Hayes’ health, however, has deteriorated in recent weeks.

“It’s a hard pill to swallow,” said Reddick, who lives in Houston.

Hayes played four years for the Bucs and was a starter his last three seasons in Tampa Bay. As you can tell from the photo, he was replaced by 2012 second-round pick Lavonte David.

Hayes was sort of the bridge between Derrick Brooks and David at outside linebacker

Hayes played three more years after leaving the Bucs, his last two in Jacksonville.

@40forever This ain’t one of those things where money can help. Money is nothing but paper in situations like this.
