Decision Time For Antonio Brown — If He Still Has Time

April 13th, 2021

Painted into corner?

It seems to Joe that it’s time for Antonio Brown to fish or cut bait.

Or as Joe’s old man would say, “It’s time to sh!t or get off the pot.”

Yesterday when the Bucs signed former Bengals receiving back Giovani Bernard, it sort of told Joe the Bucs are tired of waiting on furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing free agent wide receiver Brown.

The man helped the Bucs win a Super Bowl but as of yet has not accepted “offers” that are out there from Tampa Bay. Instead, Brown is playing on social media and teasing the Bucs on their own Instagram account that they should sign him. Brown also taunted the Bucs on Twitter with video of him working out with receiver-needy Baltimore quarterback Lamar Jackson.

And Joe isn’t sure whether the offers Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht had on the table for Brown to sign haven’t been pulled off the table in the wake of the Bucs signing Bernard.

Joe is guessing Bernard isn’t working free. Other teams were chasing the veteran, per Ian Rapoport of NFL Network, including the Chiefs. It would not shock Joe at all if some of the money Licht stashed away for Brown was used to sign Bernard.

If you snooze, you lose, son.

Yeah, Joe still hopes the Bucs can bring Brown back. Simply put, the Bucs are better with Brown on the field wearing pewter and red. That’s all there is to it.

However, did Brown hold his chips too long and overestimate his bargaining power? Can the Bucs still afford Brown? Or will Brown now have to come back at an even steeper discount rate if he plays for the Bucs again?

Or, with Brown still unemployed, does Licht know he has massive leverage over Brown if the erratic star wants to play this fall?

Joe thinks the Bernard signing served as a message to Brown: Let us know your decision but we’re full steam ahead on 2021 with or without you.

DRAFT PARTY!

AB is with no doubt still a fine player. Love the sure hands and toughness but the baggage will appear again. Thanks for the help AB but take a hike! lol

  2. AKicknTheBucNuts Says:

    AB head explosion in 3….2….1…..

  3. cape codder Says:

This boob had his chance to be a team player and choked. Buh Bye.

  4. Bucanero Says:

Let’s get a WR in the draft and be done with it. Good luck AB.

  5. Allbuccedup Says:

Even if we trade down we can still get a 4.3 40 receiver in the draft. Get one and forget Brown .

  6. Medicated Pete Says:

I thought i saw him at the Gandy causeway last night holding a rod in the bushes

  7. SB~LV Says:

    Kinda sad actually…

  8. Bird Says:

I am wondering if he thinks a team that doesnt draft a wr in a few days may come calling later

Problem is …not many teams interested in his services with criminal cases coming up …other then bucs…

And this draft is loaded with receiver talent so any remaining team may draft one and he is no longer a thought

He better make decision before draft if he has any smarts

  9. Cobraboy Says:

I’d be very happy to have either Moore or Tevon Jenkins fall to #32…

  10. BucBrady Says:

I think he’s got until after the draft.

  11. Alanbucsfan Says:

Julian Edelman failed his physical and was released by Patriots, then he announced his retirement- if Brown isn’t re-signed, does Edelman/ Brady connection become a story this summer

  12. Darin Says:

Wouldn’t suprise me if he thought he had an ounce of bargaining power. AdiosBye AB. Time for the young guys to step in. Only reason ab got so many passes last year was cuz he needed quiche bad brah. Those same throws will still be completed.

  13. Lakelandsteve Says:

We shall see what happens. I would love for AB to come back but there are still some serviceable wide receiver free agents out there we could pick up after the draft. Do not be surprised if there is a receiver available that the Bucs love at pick 32 they might take. I am sure a lot of people would be upset kind of like when we drafted Vea. We all know how well that turned out. Licht and Arians keep saying they will take best available player and I believe them.

  14. daniel Da Man Says:

Crazy way to try and get a few more dollars, or is he showing his unstable mind snd brain? I think his number with the bucks is done.

  15. The Red Mirage Says:

    AB, AMF.

  16. ClodHopper Says:

I can’t blame him for trying to get the best he can for himself. But I think it’s important that he’s been calm the whole time and he’s not raising a ruckus. That’s a good sign.

  17. 6throundpick Says:

He blew his chances to cash in when he left PIT…then NE. Then, he gets the stage back, in a lesser role. He doesn’t play a good poker game. Why is his best option not winning another Super Bowl?

  18. TOM Says:

Still no hurry to sign AB.

  19. Robert Says:

Hawks will beat is in the playoffs with an AB td.

  20. 813bucboi Says:

    AB will be a BUC…

folks forget miller, evans and godwin missed time last year….if that happens again, and it very well could, you think brady wants to throw to some rookies and 2nd year players?….

watson cant run routes and another wr had balls bouncing off his head…lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  21. Bbro Says:

Brown thought they said trains not brains and miss his

  22. Tc Says:

This is a business and the ship is getting ready to sail

  23. Joe Q Says:

I would like AB at the right price—very modest salary with incentives. Why? His legal problems could be major problems, but if TB has receiver injuries, AB would help.

  24. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

My guess it’s more the contingencies in the contract versus the $. Could be written that if he screws up he gets nothing and that maybe his hold out reason. If he continues on social media channels calling out the Bucs he maybe have to lie in the bed he made for himself.

  25. Swampbuc Says:

    @MedicatedPete –

You cost me a monitor this morning, I spewed coffee. That was hilarious.

  26. Chax Says:

AB. Wants guaranteed money. No team will give him guaranteed money with the different case’s still out there. You don’t even know if he will play or not at the start or mid season. He should have taken what was offered. However we do not need him we have Evens Johnson. Miller and Godwin along with Bernard Howard Brate and Gronk. I will not be surprised if somehow we say screw AB and bring Eddleman for 1 season.

  27. Eddie Marz Says:

I like Antonio Brown a lot. Wish he would have signed with Tampa. Truth is his value in Tampa is not as great as it would be to a team that’s weak at wide receiver’s. They don’t need him at top dollar, maybe some other real needy team will pay him what he thinks he’s worth. Sorry to see him go. GO BUCS!

  28. The Red Mirage Says:

Now that there’s a 69% chance we sign Julian Edelman it’s looking worse for AB. I agree with the sentiment that you don’t give AB any money until the day before camp starts, if ever.

  29. Ne+ bucs fan Says:

Agree with all, like to have him,, but sick of hearing about him,,sign up or shut up

  30. Victor Says:

You should drug tested if you that Edelman is better than AB smh say what u want AB is top 5 best receiver in the NFL. The man came in and performed no drama, helped delivered SB , took less money b cus of Brady but it’s a problem to pay him now. SMH!!!

  31. Victor Says:

  32. crazyBucs_CL Says:

..this prolongated situation and/or firmed decision of Bucs not to get excited with AB availability , appears to have the blessing of TB12 as well. If TB12 WANTED him too bad on the team, AB should have been there already. I like both sides to agree, or better, AB to come to Bucs terms and have him on the team again. 👍

  33. Eddie Marz Says:

I believe Brady wants Antonio Brown back. That’s why The Bucs have put out multiple offers to him. Like I said before, AB ‘s value is not that great on Tampa, since their loaded at wide receiver. Comes dow to Brown, do you want to play it again on a Super Bowl team or just make as much as you can? In the long run he’ll make more with Tampa.

  34. Ericb Says:

He needs to quit being stupid and AB play with the bucs for one more year…he has leagal issues pending so who knows what will happen…we need to sign him though but take in consideration he might be suspended. We signed a good rb in bernard. He has hands and can catch and run hell be great really good pickup….We cant let AB go to the hawks though that trio will not be good to face against. We need to sign AB

  35. Mike Bosco Says:

how come they never say how much there offering brown, probably bc.s its bs.they want him for nothing,im dure brown will take half his worth but he cant be looking like a begger.

  36. Joe Says:

how come they never say how much there offering brown, probably bc.s its bs.they want him for nothing,im dure brown will take half his worth but he cant be looking like a begger.

Unless it is huge money, NFL teams rarely broadcast how much they are offering a player.

  37. Robbery1016 Says:

We dont really need him with all his off the field antics . he’s a good player with lots of baggage…. I’d rather see Fitzgerald or Edelman running around for us next year!!
Either way we’ll have a solid team he wont make or break us

  38. Mo Says:

Why y’all think Edelman is coming to the Bucs? If he failed the physical for NE what makes you think he’ll pass it for the Bucs. That’s the reason he was released. He’s been in the news lately that his surgically repaired knee wasn’t healing as expected, so he rightfully chose to retire

  39. Dave g Says:

so far ive been right on the money with all the free agent talk surrounding the bucs but i don’t think theres any rush to resigning ab with how deep we are already with team first guys already on the roster at wr.dont really understand bernard signing to bunch up a already crowded backfield with some good d-line depth and a much needed backup qb needed but brady has ab in check he will b there when the goat gets ready to start throwing again

  40. Anonymous Says:

We don’t need him we getting julien element. He pulling a front move

  41. Sidhayes Says:

We don’t need him. We going to get julien element to replace him. He pulling a gronk move. 2 months from now he’ll be a buc.

  42. Rachel Trammell Says:

Drop ab and never look back he’s not worth the bs. Take it from a team that has already had him. Go Steelers!

  43. Eddie Marz Says:

Love Antonio Brown. Forget Fitzgerald or Edelman. AB can still play at a high level.
