Bucs On A Deadline For Antonio Brown?

April 6th, 2021

Free agent WR Antonio Brown.

So do the Bucs have basically until the end of next month to work out a deal with furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing receiver Antonio Brown? A respected NFL scribe seems to think so.

Senior NFL reporter Jeremy Fowler of BSPN recently went on SchlockCenter and spoke about Antonio Brown’s dalliance with the Seahawks. It has been widely reported that Seattle quarterback Russell Wilson really wants Brown but the Seahawks aren’t that hip to him and his past ish, which is one reason Wilson is reportedly not a total happy camper in Seattle.

Fowler claims, by way of Rob Goldberg of Bleacher Report, Seattle has not made “major moves” to sign Brown.

Feel free to interpret what “major moves” are in contract negotiations. Does that mean Seattle hasn’t put a contract in front of Brown or does that mean Seahawks shot-caller Pete Carroll spent a prolonged session in the Seahawks executive bathroom one morning?

“So, [the Seahawks] want to flesh out pass-catching options for Russell Wilson and look, we know Wilson loves Antonio Brown. He would like to have him on that team. They haven’t made any major moves there yet, but if this goes into the spring and summer and Brown is still unsigned with the Bucs, I could see Seattle swooping in there.”

Now we know the Bucs have “offers out there.” Again define that how you wish.

What Joe does know is that Brown is still looking for work. And every day Brown is out there, that’s another day of opportunity for a team to pull the rug out from underneath the Bucs’ feet.

So, per Fowler, the Bucs best not hope Brown is on the street once summer hits. But what summer?

When Joe lived up north, that meant from Memorial Day Weekend through Labor Day Weekend. Here in Florida, summer seems to begin on tax day (and lasts to roughly Halloween, which during the Lost Decade often meant the beginning of draft season).

No sense filling out the roster at the WR position with the draft and post draft veteran release coming up. AB has made his bed and the Bucs are his best match … many surprises coming in the next 30 days!

  2. Sport Says:

It’s crazy how strong our offensive talent is. The ability to properly negotiate with such an incredibly gifted (and earned) receiver is a healthy indicator.

His demons seem to be calm for now, I hope that continues regardless of what happens.

    In BA I Trust!

  3. Sport Says:

One more thought on this. It’s truly amazing the power of TB12

His commanding leadership is the only person on the NFL that can keep him on the right path.

What evidence do I have? The deafening silence of an any offers from the other 31 teams.

    Wow…just wow.

    In BA I Trust!

  4. Chris Thomas from Heaven Says:

I sign him immediately as long as he agrees to live at One Buc Place & never leave till mid February

  5. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

I don’t think it is as much his off field antics so many players fall into that category. I don’t even believe it’s what he did in Pittsburgh but publically on HardKnocks he humiliated the Raiders and Gruden and I don’t think that sits well with the owners and other coaches. Raiders bent over backwards for him. But the past is the past. Brady held Josh Gorden in check for a full season, Wilson could not. I doubt Wilson can manage Brown if he acts up. Wilson’s history of being a premadona would make one believe he won’t deal with it. Sign the guy, he’s earned it and it makes O much better.

  6. Marc O'Rubyo Says:

One thing I am 99%sure, if another will sign him, I don’t think he will betray Brady by exposing the Bucs’ playbook.

  7. Allbuccedup Says:

I said before sign Cordarrelle Patterson you have another receiver and one hell of a return man. Two for the price of one. Probably cheaper also.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Deadline?…..what deadline?…..I don’t see one….for the exception of the draft….I would think Bucs would like to know if they have Brown or not when they draft.

  9. #1bucsfan Says:

Brown is unsigned because he wants more money. Strictly for his talent he deserves prob what he is asking for. His work ethic then add in he prob has the best hands in the nfl still and is there anyone out there that can run better routes and has better foot work honestly prob not but he’s not getting the high dollar his skills demand cause of the off field things and the fact is he’s on the wrong side of 30 but the guy is still a beast. I think the Bucs are doing the right thing here. Be great if we get him signed if we don’t it will still be great. I like the position we are in.

  10. Casual Observer Says:

Agree with #1. Frosting on the cake.

  11. BA4President Says:

That last sentence shouldn’t be so true… but it is.

    “The dog days are over”!!

  12. SC Bucs Fan Says:

I don’t know how you read what is written and see a deadline of the end of the month.

  13. zzbuc Says:

If AB comes for the cheap, like last year more than welcome if not, let’s move on….Not a biggie……WR and TE is not a problem by any means….

  14. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

Zzbuc, true to an extent but if he ends up on Seattle chances are Bucs may see them in the PO’s. It looks like other than the Rams the rest of the NFC stinks. Our secondary does not want to see Metcalf & Brown and possibly Colston in a PO game. That crew would be better than Kelce & Hill.

  15. Magicbuc Says:

If I had to guess…Brown will sign with the Bucs before the draft.

  16. Robert Says:

    Go get paid AB.

  17. Alvin Says:

AB literally went on Instagram and said sign AB to the Bucs account. So to me I think a deal is close to getting done. He will be back.

  18. Alvin Says:

Also the deadline is summer but basically they want to pay AB dirt cheap. So if he’s getting payed dirt cheap it’s gonna be in Tampa. Seahawks are not gonna give AB any big money.

  19. PSL Bob Says:

Would love AB back on the team, but I won’t be heart broken if he goes elsewhere. What I don’t like is all the manufactured suspense. From everything I’ve read on this site, the Bucs have offered several options. At some point the Bucs need to start planning as if he’s not coming back. And as Kay Adams suggested, whatever the Bucs do regarding AB, it should not interfere with a long-term deal for Godwin.

  20. ay808 Says:

You have put this man down since he was picked up. Stop bashing a man who was an integral part in taking the Buc’s to a Superbowl…and helping them win won. You are a Buc’s fan right? Because it sure doesn’t sound like you’re one. Pay him the money and do it again Buccaneers!

  21. Capt.Tim Says:

Brady sought him out, and thought we needed him.
    Nuff’ said.
I think Brown is just waithing for Licht to free up some more money.

And, yeah, by the end of the year- Brown was our best, and go to, WR.
Our other WRs were having problems holding the ball, thru out the year.
With Brown, 3 have 3 of the top ten WRs in the League.
You still don’t wanna lose the best one.

  22. Capt.Tim Says:

    Damn it.
“3 of the top 10 WRs”

  23. AKicknTheBucNuts Says:

Once again, why sign a guy who may not be available come Dec. because of lawsuits.

  24. SOEbuc Says:

Owners and GM on Tom Brady’s team’s trust him when he says “don’t worry I can handle him” and make it happen. That can’t be guaranteed by anyone else and the Bucs (and I) would kick him to the curb if something negative arose. He most probably could be a #1 WR somewhere, but has built a reputation so bad for himself no one wants to go near one of the best WR all time. I’d love to have him back because he seemed to be controlling himself and playing good ball.

  25. SOEbuc Says:

    * “Owners and GM on Tom Brady’s team’s trust him when he says “don’t worry I can handle him” and make it happen”

    Minus Aaron Hernandez

  26. 813bucboi Says:

    sign him!!!

fans want the band back together with NO drama!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  27. Randell Jackson Phares Says:

Brady never said that about Arron H.

  28. Tc Says:

A B makes the bucs better.
    A B wants more money.
Time is moving on with the draft around the corner.
Give him a time limit of sign on by April 15th or the ship sails.
This is a business. Crap or get off the pot A B.
    Bucs hold all the cards.

  29. Gordon Says:

Hope AB signs with the Bucs because he has great talent and is very close with Tom Brady!

  30. Pewter Power Says:

I guess that’s one way to look at it. This has always been a top defense even before AB it was and seems the Bucs realize that and also that he can be signed if within a price range below his value. Would the Bucs fail to compete for another super bowl because of that one piece? Go for the money or jump back on the bandwagon that got your career out of the gutter. Wanted not needed brotha sorry it is what it is

  31. TOM Says:

Like I said before, the Bucs are in the driver’s seat. Also I might add, I’ll be shocked if Howard is still here opening day. Don’t need him. Especially at 6 mil.

  32. Cainishere Says:

I am sure that there are offers on the table for Antonio Brown. I believe that he is just simply wanting to play for a good team and get paid decent enough to justify it. I am sure he wants to return to Tampa but the Bucs are waiting to see what value he fetches before they make a move to secure him. The delay could be that the Bucs offered the same money as last season and he deserves a raise. Be smart Bucs just sign the man already. Go Bucs!!

  33. Bucs since 76 Says:

The Bucs need to extend another player’s contract or cut someone to give them cap space to sign A B and the draft picks. T Brady and D Smith contract extension gave them cap space to sign the 7 of the 8 players they wanted back. According to NFL over the cap there is no cap space left.

  34. tvan101 Says:

I’ll take Houston or Kerrigan over AB all day.

  35. Tc Says:

No one wants to drive up his price and he winds up going back to the bucs and they get left with nothing but hanging.

  36. Smith77 Says:

If Evans or Godwin go down…( Which is more then likely given the past)… And Gronk….( which is a shock he made it through past season healthy)…or Oj…( which will happen) always does…We now dont look so prolific….Sign the guy….He is still a one…Put the film on
