Win-Win-Win

Champion teammate.

Want to know just how tough it is to repeat as Super Bowl champs?

It’s so tough that park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing Bucs Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady has only done it once in his unmatched career, and that was 16 years ago.

In analyzing a big month for the Bucs in which the team franchised Chris Godwin and re-signed Lavonte David and Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett, X’s and O’s guy Ted Nguyen over at The Athletic examined what those three signings meant for the Bucs’ chances of “Going for Two.”

With David, they get one of the better ILBs back who is also a vital leader in that locker room. With Barrett, they get back their best pass rusher, who has a knack for making timely plays. Both would have been very difficult to replace, so this gives the Bucs a chance to be one of the best defenses in the NFL again. Godwin is one of the best slot receivers in the NFL and could be even better in his second year with Brady. All three would have been huge losses, just not on the field but chemistry-wise as well.

You know, that last item is a big one. People — Joe included — overlook chemistry. By bringing these guys back, the Bucs already know how they work with their teammates and fit into game plans — the Bucs won the Super Bowl with them! With replacements, you have no idea until you are in the thick of battle.

Barrett, David and Godwin are proven champions.

    @Eddie.

Joe is not a loser Eddie, you are.

You don’t even know the difference between “your” and “you’re”.

People who don’t know that difference after 2nd grade, are losers.

Gotta stay healthy. That didn’t happen in 2003 and the SB Champs fell hard.

You want to know the motivation this year. Another f’ing boat parade. They have memories of that day permanently tattooed into their brains.

    …hasn’t been done since…Brady.

The football Gods need to be on your side to repeat. Health is a huge variable. You were lucky last year. Y’all saw what happens when TB12 doesn’t have great protection. He’s still great but he can’t even move in the pocket anymore. That’s why the team metamorphosised into run run play action. A couple injuries on the line and you’re screwed. You must run the ball, you need LF back. Jones scares me. DRAFT SOME LINEMAN

Chemistry is everything. This team got better and better. Brady kept saying it takes time and people didn’t want to hear it, but he was right, as usual. Even in the playoffs they were still getting better. The defense may have played their best game by the time they go to the Super Bowl but the offense has not. That is why I think they have a chance to be a historic team.
35 points a game while giving up 18 or less
At worse I see them at 13 -3.
Very high expectations but now they’ll have an off-season and we saw the progression last year. We saw the chemistry with Brady and the receivers developing. We saw them finally embracing the run game and play action as their identity.
We saw the chemistry of the DBs developing. The big key, as always, his health, and weekend and week out consistency in the pass rush

Green Ben. Jones is our best runner. He hits the hole way faster than LF. He averages more yards per carry. LF had some nice runs in the playoffs but got benched during mid-season because of poor performance. The tag playoff Lenny was because he came alive post season. He had one very long run that I remember in the regular season. Jones got better as the season progressed. Jones is a breakaway threat on any given carry. His rookie year was poor but last season he would have had 1000 yards but Brady wanted AB to get his bonus. For 16 regular season games Lenny was so so. Jones ranked in the top ten. If Lenny resigns and plays like did in the playoffs that would be fantastic and the Bucs would have one of the best running back tandems in the league. I actually hope playoff Lenny is still a Buc and picks up where he left off.
