Travis Kelce Reflects On Getting His “Ass Beat,” Yearns For A Rematch

March 22nd, 2021

Pro Bowl Chiefs TE Travis Kelce

It’s so fun to hear and see Chiefs players walking around with their tails between their legs after the Bucs hammered them in the Super Bowl.

Will it ever get old?

It certainly won’t get old for Joe.

The Bucs won last month’s Super Bowl 31-9, a complete throttling of a team many thought/think is a budding dynasty with a legendary quarterback. Six-time Pro Bowl Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce was faced with that reality during a visit to The Pat McAfee Show last week, and Joe loved his painful reaction.

“I say it like this, you ever just wake up on Sunday and get your ass beat by a bunch of guys you never thought you’d get your ass beat by?” Kelce said about the Bucs’ Super Bowl win.

“That’s exactly what happened. I mean, we never thought that was going to happen. I don’t think the score of that game is true to who we are and where we ranking in terms of being a great team and being as good as the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The situation is what it is. We have to live with that and we have to try to get better because of it. … In my mind, hopefully we’re there next year and Tampa Bay is there next year so that we can go ahead and go after it again. That’s all that’s really ingrained in my heart right now.”

Screw Kelce, but bring on the rematch! Maybe Antoine Winfield, Jr., will flash the deuce in his face, too. There’s little doubt both teams will be considerable favorites to get back to the Super Bowl when next season begins.

  2. Chris Thomas from Heaven Says:

He was a complete goober smooch in that interview. They will not be back in the Superbowl next year

  3. 813bucboi Says:

they are who we thought they were!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    #finesse….

    GO BUCS!!!!

  4. TampaTown Says:

“Will it ever get old?” No. Never. Round two? Be careful what you wish for. Just ask the Eagles. Or the Packers. We’ll line up and kick your a$$ again, new OL and all.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Fine with me….a rematch….bring it on!!!

  6. Bird Says:

Cam jordan and the saints are crying over split milk too

Hope we can deliver sh!t sandwiches to both next year.

  7. SOEbuc Says:

Lmao. Sounds like a national analyst pre Super Bowl Sunday. With this defense and three starting oline out? Did they miss the rest of the Bucs post season? We got 17 unanswered points to make it a close 27-24 L week 12. Y’all didn’t think we could beat you? Chump. Bring that sh!t. We gonna be throwin deuces two times.

  8. PSL Bob Says:

I give the Chief a couple of breaks. Their o-line was lacking some starters and in total disarray, and Mahommes was suffering from a turf toe, which may have affected his mobility, although it certainly didn’t look like it. But that doesn’t explain the way the Bucs shut down their passing game, or why Kelce dropped passes he nearly always makes or why Mahommes was running for his life most of the second half. I think they came in a bit cocky and got handed a total ass-whooping. The Bucs are legit and a powerhouse on both sides of the ball. So, yeah, get your arses back to the SB again and we’ll prove LV was no fluke. No excuses this time!

  10. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Kelce is a warrior, I will give him that.
But they got beat by a better team, it is as simple as that.
Even if they had their starting tackles, we would still have won.
We are the best team in football!

  11. BuucccNASTY Says:

That’s all I got to say to Travis, just take your beat down and brace for it again next year PUNK!

  12. Pewter Power Says:

It’s cool as long as he knows exactly what happened on super bowl Sunday. I appreciate him describing his day so accurately

  13. Chris Thomas from Heaven Says:

Kelce will be 32 next season.

  14. NOLES Says:

We were missing a starter on O line but you never hear that mentioned

Media only reports what they want you to hear

No excuses on Sunday you play w what you got. Stinnie was obviousky better than what they Chiefs had. Plain n Simple.

Kelce is no baller w talk like that. Shut your mouth and bring it next yr is how a REAL All Pro would approach

He is soft just like the CHIEFS

  15. SlyPirate Says:

He should be more concerned about the AFC. Getting through the AFC is going to be so difficult. The AFC has 7 legit contenders. The teams that miss (8-9) would likely make the playoffs in the NFC.

AFC: KC, Buf, Bal, Cle, Indy, Pitt, Tenn

NFC: Bucs, GB, Rams, … maybe AZ and 49ers?

  16. Bucfanforever Says:

Doesn’t Kelce know that next year the NFL scheduled a Brady-Bellichick Super Bowl face off?

  17. Youngbucs Says:

Don’t worry kelce we got the 🐐 he goes to the super bowl most years u may get your wish.

  18. Swampbuc Says:

SlyPirate- don’t count out the WFT, with their legitimate defense that just got better, the new weapons on O and Fitz to mentor the Heineken youngster, and Riverboat Ron, they could win the NFC East and be a tougher challenge than this past season, where we barely beat them.

  19. 6throundpick Says:

…that you never thought you’d get your arse beaten by. Perhaps, that the problem; disrespecting your opponent? Well, how about this one I never thought a team’s trending upward get cut short by a Super Bowl!

  20. jamestb03 Says:

Kelce was man-handled by LVD. He went over 100 yards in receiving most of it when the Bucs were playing soft. KC will get ran again with their attitude.

  21. Buxszntkt Says:

Didn’t think Kelce was such trash. Sour grapes. You lost, you were well contained by our linebackers. Whatever reason for KC getting throttled you did. Stop bitching like a little girl who’s BF just got a BJ from the hot chick and accept you got beat. Blame yourselves for lack of prep., inability to adjust to Bowles scheme.

  22. Cobraboy Says:

No doubt Drew Brees and Aaron Rodgers are saying the same thing…

  23. firethecannons Says:

    Joe says:
    Will it ever get old?
It certainly won’t get old for Joe.

    It will never get old
they took it for granted that Mahomes would outrun/outplay the pass rush and our secondary would be full of holes.
Credit again to Todd Bowles for a masterful game plan

  24. Drunkinybor Says:

Again what’s with these guys? They seriously thought that they could just show up play a little lossy goosey then turn it on and win. Not this time mothafonka!! Bucs came to win with that ferocious Defense. Chiefs disrespected the football Gods and wrre for humiliated for it. No team no matter how talented has to out it in the work.

  25. Buxszntkt Says:

Brees and Matt Ryan both picked the Bucs after playing both defenses. Two fantastic quarterbacks with extensive history playing and seeing likely every possible defensive scheme picked us to win.
Then you have an excellent TE who knows how to get open for his stellar QB feeling they shouldn’t have lost ( But you did Travis ).
So whose opinion do we value ?

  26. Bojim Says:

By the time they figured out the the Bucs were more than lucky, it was too late.

  27. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

I don’t care who we face!!!!

    LFG!!!!!!!!!!

  28. schmucks Says:

i wish there could be a poll to see how many people find the stupid monikers that you have to skip over to read the article.

am i the only one that finds it completely stupid and makes me want to just exit the whole website?
who actually thinks any of it is funny?

it just seems like an amateur college jock thing to do. Not very professional at all. i dont know what the point of them are? its just a whole bunch of non sense.

  29. Buddhaboy19 Says:

Ha ha What a Diva Bllitttcchhh

  30. SlyPirate Says:

Swampbuc … Good call on WFT.

I went onto a WFT board after the season and let them know their 3rd string QB played as well, if not better, than any QB we faced. They loved that.

WFT has talent, for sure. It’s funny how Cowboy fans are talking Super Bowl when they should be more concerned about winning their division.

  31. '79 Defense Says:

I didn’t know much about Kelce but in one of the NFL’s videos he is talking to Gronk after the game and he seemed like a pretty good guy.

I don’t see anything wrong with what he said. I don’t blame him for wanting a rematch. If you’re a competitor, of course you want another chance at the Bucs.

  32. lokog Says:

we ready to go right now no pads meet up @ a school with no refs

  33. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

HA! The Cowgirls haven’t been relevant in 20 years. Unfortunately this has not stopped them from getting 5-6 primetime games every year (Jerry Factor). They will once again be fighting for a wild card this year.

  34. Winny Testaverde Says:

Great hands…always seems to get open…acts/talks like a dope. Yet another glorious sight at the Super Bowl…watching him give props to the original 87…who ain’t done yet and plays tough vs acts/talks tough.

  35. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

Shame on you and the rest of the KC locker room to think you could just walk into the SB and stomp on the Bucs. By the end of that game Kelce’s uniform looked like Devin White had galloped around the stadium on his horse dragging Kelce behind him. Tired of excuses, tackles were hurt, you mean the guys they just let go? Our secondary was beat up, doesn’t that count for anything when you playing a QB like Mahomes? Oh and his toe was so shot up with novocain he probably didn’t know he had one for at least two more days after the SB. Take your medicine like a man and if KC is lucky they get to play the defending SUPERBOWL CHAMPION BUCCANEERS again.

  36. Pewter Power Says:

No one is worried about WFT except the nfc east, some kind of joke going around on the internet saying they are a threat because of Fitzpatrick. They’re receivers are no threat either unless they add some top shelf talent from the draft, give me a break with the silly talk

  37. Bucs Guy Says:

I agree with 813bucboi and Denny Green.

  38. Destinjohnny Says:

    Bring it

  39. Seattle Buc is back in TB Says:

What, he never heard of 10 year veteran all pro Linebacker Lavonte David? Why are you surprised you got your arse kicked? You slept on the Bucs, just like the Saints and Packers. Your boys were more concerned with admiring Tampas weather, beaten on every snap. Deserved to lose in embarrassing fasion.

  40. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Travis, I can really use a fresh beer right about now. MOVE! Chop chop!

  41. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

“Oh yeah? Well next time, I’m going to bring my big brother so you don’t make me your b!tch again!”

    Sincerely,

    Travis Kelce

  42. BillMFL Says:

KC came in over confident. And missing two starters on their line would hurt any team. But the Bucs came in red hot and dominated. And Mahomes is one of my favorite players when not playing against us. The kid is amazing. Kelse is a top tight end and their team has had a great record. But they got a good old fashion but whipping this time. Would not be surprised if we meet again in the next SB

  43. Pickgrin Says:

Nice article Joe. This is the type of written content you don’t see anywhere else.

Cry me a river Kelce –

Love how he implies that they still kinda feel they were the better team…

LV was one of the worst Super Bowl beat downs in many years.

Chiefs got their asses handed to them in Tampa that day – by a more talented and better prepared team.

Its still feels like a dream to this longtime fan that the Buccaneers were that team.

I don’t wanna wake up – cause I’m having this crazy dream that the Bucs have a top flight coaching staff and somehow, inexplicably – Tom Brady is the Quarterback playing like he’s 30 – and the team is loaded with a good mix of young and experienced talent….. Oh – and Gronk’s here – And the best receiver of the last 10 years signed for peanuts to back up Evans and Godwin…. and the Bucs have the most talented AND ferocious Front 7 in football and have already WON another Super Bowl and……

God – please don’t wake me up – this dream is too good!

  44. David Says:

LoL. I don’t see it happening. I think the Buccaneers will have the Packers and Rams to get through and will get back to the Super Bowl.
I think KC will get beat in the playoffs this year.
I see the Bills in the Super Bowl.

Oddly enough, with Josh Allen and Stephan Diggs, The Buccaneers defensive game plan would be the same as last year‘s Super Bowl.
Of course, terrorizing the opposing quarterback with the front 4 while shutting the running game down, pretty much works against any offense

  45. m0j0 Says:

They were like Clubber Lang, taking us out early in the season, then thinking we were the same animal they faced before, but we went full Rocky 3 on them in the rematch!

  46. MarkR Says:

C’mon guys, prior to the SB KC won something like 25 out of their last 26 with Mahomes starting. Did you expect Kelce to say that going in he knew they’d be getting crushed? Did you expect that? We’ll beat them again if the occasion arises, they lack our physicality, but I wouldn’t bet the house on a 22 point margin of victory.

  47. orlbucfan Says:

Mahomes is the real deal even in losing. What a player and he’s young. But, Bucs defense was better and it showed. Kelce who?
