“They Are Keeping The Band Together”

March 15th, 2021

Van Halen will never be able to get back together. But it seems the 2020 Bucs will, and not as part of any reunion.

With the re-signing of Shaq Barrett at a tremendous value, it sure seems as if this Super Bowl champion Band of Bucs will return to make a run at “Going for Two.

“This, for Shaq Barrett, made sense from the beginning,” NFL Network lead reporter Ian Rapoport said this morning.

“The sack number was not there but the impact was,” added NFL Network reporter Mike Garofolo. “When the light came on [in the playoffs] it stayed on.”

Also, Shaq was one of the league leaders in quarterback pressures, which included hurries and knockdowns.

You can see the full discussion from Rapoport and Garofolo in the NFL Network video below.

Up next, Ryan Succop? Ndamukong Suh?

Sign Suh and the draft becomes wide open. Trade up, trade down, grab BPA, trade for future picks … just don’t draft a kicker.

  2. August 1976 Buc Says:

Time to DOMINATE 2021 NFL Season, this team has a chance for the best record ever. It is not out of the realm of possibility. The 49’s went 18-1 as Champs, the Pats with Brady went 18-1 and lost the Super Bowl. Who knows, but after dominating KC, this team knows they can put a beatdown on anyone. GO BUCS!!!!

  3. Chris Thomas from Heaven Says:

Nah, need Suh. Then, AB & Gronky

  4. mark2001 Says:

Saw them in an outdoor concert in Iowa decades ago. late 70’s I think. About as hot as I could ever imagine. Don’t know how those guy could stand it.

  5. Ed Kerber Says:

Lichtis the man. If you have a good draft and continue to bring back the core, watch out 1972 Dolphins!

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Signing Suh would assure we have all our starters from last year…….draft the depth pieces……DT, LB, CB……

  7. tbbucs3 Says:

Amazing how Licht was able to pull this off, as the Chiefs just had to release their starting tackles and teams are cutting players left and right to save Cap.

There is no doubt anymore that Licht is the right man for the job.

  8. Casual Observer Says:

They are keeping the band together. The headline says. We’ll see.

  9. zzbuc Says:

Gronk and Sucop…then the rest….(if possible)

  10. Coburn Says:

Imo Gronk and succop are next most important. Need that kicking game to be solid and Gronk single blocks de and is a huge red zone target. Ab probably a luxury with young guys developing, Suh would be great, but getting older. Either way we need his replacement. Prob comes down to him or nacho whoever wants the ring

  11. unbelievable Says:

Suh and Succop next, let’s go baby!

  12. webster Says:

Some of you do not get it. I have read all off season on this board how the bucs wont be able to keep this player or that player etc. Even the thread where joe announced shaq took a “discount”, posters are talking about how the bucs wont be able to sign suh or rookies etc. PLEASE SHUT THE F@CK UP!!!!! BA and licht told you at the boat parade they were keeping this team together. You have no idea how the salary cap works and you have no idea how to manipulate the cap. Instead of trying to be armchair gms, SHUT THE F@CK UP and let licht and BA do what they said they were going to do and that is keep the band together. Yes suh will be signed because in words of BA, “HIS A$$ AINT GOING NOWHERE”

  13. August 1976 Buc Says:

  14. Youngbucs Says:

What I difference having an actual QB does win and they shall come!!!!!’

  15. Wesley Says:

Now we have to find a way to keep Suh, Gronk and Succup.

  16. Brandon Jeff Says:

    Must Have’s!

    Succop- No explanation needed!

Suh- D-line anchor as well as on field mentor and motivator!

Gronk- A top TE receiving threat and added line protection for Brady!

AB- A top WR receiving threat, depth and please can he handle KO and Punt returns. Possible multi-dimensional weapon.

    GO BUCS!!!

  17. D-Rome Says:

Congrats to Jason Licht who has become the greatest GM in Bucs history. No matter what happens in 2021 there is no question now that he is the best. I gladly admit I was wrong about Licht. We obviously have no idea who the next Buccaneers coach will be but if Jason Licht is GM then the Glazers need to stay as far away from that process as they can.

  18. Swampbuc Says:

    SSSSSSSSSSUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. Rod Munch Says:

Meanwhile Gruden is still trying to justify cutting Lynch and not resigning Sapp, claiming “cap hell” – as he gave his former Oakland lackies big deals.

  20. TampaTown Says:

So now it’s time for Gronk , Suh, and Succop

  21. TampaTown Says:

    Webster you’re awesome 😂

    CALLED IT WEEKS AGO!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  24. SOEbuc Says:

I think resigning AB is very under looked. With tagging Godwin, we once again have the almighty WR depth corp in the NFL with these injury prone WR. Evans or Godwin, you kick AB outside and bring in TJ at #3. AB goes down you got TJ to come in at #3. And then we also have Scotty if it gets really ugly.

  25. Rod Munch Says:

I’m still p/o’d at Gruden for destroying the Bucs SB team, just claiming ‘cap hell’ as why he couldn’t get anything done, and why he needed to dismantle the defense – then signs Charlie Garner and Tim Brown and twelve 35-year old injured offensive lineman. It certainly wasn’t that he was such a thin skinned idiot he couldn’t tolerate people (properly) pointing out he won with Dungy’s team – no, he had to destroy the defense because of ‘cap hell’… What a d-bag. It’s days like today when I remember why I hated him so much at the time.

  26. Rob In Land O Lakes Says:

Unlike the boys in that photo Joe, Shaq will NOT be singing “Happy Trails”!

    ^oops^

  29. Fred mcneil Says:

It would be awesome to get Godwin long term too , if only to create more room this year.
I never imagined we’d sign Shaq and still have room for the others.

  30. David Says:

    Need –
    Suh
    Gronk
    Succop

    Want-
    Lenny
    AB
Nacho (he becomes a need if they can’t get Suh)
    Stinnie

Long Live King.. EDWARD VAN HALEN!!!! LFG BUCS!!! .
