Shaq Was Smart

March 23rd, 2021

Happy.

While Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett recently stated neither he nor his agent oily Drew Rosenhaus fielded an offer better than what Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht presented, it’s fair to say Shaq may have poisoned his own market.

In a panel discussion with NFL writers at The Athletic, it was pointed out there are edge rushers getting paid more than Shaq for less production, and Shaq’s public pledges that he wanted to stay with the Bucs may have hurt his market.

So the question was posed, was Shaq smart to stick with the Bucs and not pursue a better offer?

Veteran NFL scribe Dan Pompei believes Shaq was wise to stay where he has had success.

He’s comfortable in Tampa. He’s on one of the best teams in football. He pays no state income tax. He’s a smart man for taking a little less to maintain a good situation.

There’s something to be said about being happy. Shaq clearly likes Tampa Bay, likes playing for defensive coordinator Todd Bowles and likes winning a ring.

Who knows if Shaq’s production may have tanked had he be playing for a defensive coordinator that doesn’t know how to get the most out of him like Bowles does?

Now all day long he can bidi-bidi-bum

This year, both Shaq and JPP should get double digit sacks. Our offense is getting better, so we should be able to unleash the dawgs earlier in games to shut down our opponents.

Looks like this has turned into Shaq-bucs-fan…….

Good for Shaq. Good for Tampa.

Two years ago, could you imagine a sports commentator, any commentator, saying “he’s on one of the best teams in football”? This team is going to rock the NFL in 2021!!! Go BUCS!

Funny and I think Big Storm Brewing Co is working on a brew that will help Joe maintain his rigid manhood while eliminating the need to throw remote controls, kick dogs and contemplate Skyway swan dives.

It’ll be called Joe Knows lager.

Not that it matters much, but I find it kind of interesting. Although Shaq lives in Florida I believe he does have to pay taxes to the states that he plays in when the Bucs travel. Just curious – can anyone confirm?

I think it’s safe to say Shaq and family can still shop at whole foods even taking the supposed lesser offer.

Glad Shaq is back. Now I’d like to see the Bucs sign a veteran edge rusher and draft one in the first 3 rounds. Fortify the edge rushers for 2021 and the future. Fatten up Anthony Nelson and see if he is a decent DE.

  11. Carlos Alvarez Says:

Nick Bolton from Missouri is the guy they need to get in draft , he is like Shaq , awesome speed rusher, Google him and all Bucs fan will agree.

NFL players are subject to state taxes depending on where the game site is. These so called Jock Taxes can be north of 200 hundred thousand per year depending on where away games are played and of course the amount earned.

Shaq was smart to stay in Tampa. Bowles Blitz Happy game plan will ensure he gets a lot of sacks to keep his value high.
Plus, he has the very real chance to win another Super Bowl ring here, next year!

  14. Tampabaybucfan Says:

State tax benefits are somewhat overrated for NFL players….and yes…when they play elsewhere, those state taxes apply….but i think there is also a variance as to where they practice…..
For Shaq, it would be the difference between a Ferrari or Lamborghini….

  15. Bobby M. Says:

Without the supporting cast that he has now, hard to say how much of an impact he would make if teams only had to game plan for just him. Tampa presented the most long term value….IMO

  16. Mike Says:

His motto needs to be go for 20 (sacks) this season!

  17. Buxszntkt Says:

    What’s the over/under on combined sacks JPP and Shaq ? 24 ?

  18. SOEbuc Says:

We get it. He resigned for a lot more than you and I probably got paid. Let’s move on to other areas.

Ferrari or Lamborghini? All these guys spout out that they have to have a safety net for their family. A Corolla with low mileage should do the trick, right? 9 kids I would put 3/4 of that money away for my kids future and their kids and their kids and their kids etc…What the hell does one person need all that money for? 9 kids? OMFG. I’ve taken sex Ed but how is that possible?

  22. Robert Says:

25-30 sacks with SB and JPP????

they’re both aging and one just got a huge contrast. I wouldn’t bet they get 20 between the 2 this year. We need young blood. yungry!

  23. Pewter941 Says:

18mil in Florida is like 20 mil in other states correct?

No tax on the home games.

Shaq played in Denver for Von Miller in 2017 and in gratitude the Broncos drafted Bradley Chubb in the first round and sat Shaq in 2018–I’m sure he is eternally grateful to the Bucs for making him a starter and a star.

  26. Laura Moo Says:

If had he be playing for another defensive coordinator who knows if he be more better than here? Me not sure if he be better but me happy he here!
