Shaq Barrett On Bruce Arians: “BA Is Not A BSer”

March 17th, 2021

Discusses return.

When Bucco Bruce Arians, Bud Light in his left hand and microphone in his right, hollered and waved his beer at Doug Williams throwback jersey-wearing Shaq Barrett saying, “Your @ss ain’t going nowhere, either,” many took that as Arians just having a good time with his beers doing the talking at the post-boat parade celebration.

The Bucs’ sack king never got that impression.

Shaq signed his new contract with the Bucs. It’s a four-year deal.

Speaking to the local pen and mic club today about his new contract, wearing a sweet red lid, Shaq said Arians is a man of his word whether he is well-lubricated or not. And the way Arians is real with his players was a big reason Shaq wanted to stay with the Bucs.

“Whatever he says he is going to try to do or it is going to be done,” Shaq said. “BA is not a BSer at all. He’s going to say what he means and means what he says.

Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager “Jason Licht is the same way. Usually [with other teams], you might hear, like, ‘We will do everything we can to bring you back.’ Or you will not be traded. And then sometimes it ended uphappening.

“This organization — that’s why I love it here — they usually keep it 100 [percent] with you. If they tell you how it is, it’s just like that. That’s all you can ask for.”

Joe is sure word is getting around the league fast: Tampa Bay is where you want to play. Don’t think for a second the way Shaq talks about playing for Arians that other NFL players are not listening.

They see this chatter on NFL Network and then they hear fellow players talk like this: Tampa is the place to go. Great weather, cool coaches and you win!

Now clearly the Bucs won’t have much Team Glazer loot to acquire other players. But for secondary players, it is a buyer’s market. And Joe suspects more than a player or two would be cool with eating some salary to come play for Arians and Tom Brady.

Shaq also noted that “three or four times” he and his family have had to move, just in the two years Shaq has been with the Bucs. No more. Shaq confirmed he is house-hunting right now.

In the Tampa Bay area.

Welcome back, Shaq.

There is something to be said about a job where you are TRULY happy dealing with the organization on a personal AND professional level. I have personally seen both sides of that coin, my wife has too. You can be making GOOD money and literally be depressed and worn out walking into the office each and every day.

I had that job once…. my boss hated me. I hated him. But I wasn’t going to quit because that meant he wins. Towards the end, he wrote me up for “bad body language.” Literally, i had a disciplinary report filed with HR because I was depressed over working there. “We can’t have you bumming everyone out with non-verbal negativity.”

Shaq may have made a few bucks more somewhere else (possibly) but it sounds like he is TRULY happy going to the office.

Not like Gruden in that, is he.

  5. Winny Testaverde Says:

Sounds somewhat like the opposite of Chunky in this regard…which was part of his undoing in Tampa. BA > JG now if you ask me. Grateful for both championships in my lifetime.

Joe, you’ve hit the nail on the head. You have stated succinctly what makes a franchise a class organization.

This is why the Bucs are a threat to become the new “America’s Team”.

(P.S. How about the use of the term ‘succinct’. I’m sure that you as well as the Sage will appreciate it. 😉 )

i’m glad he recognized this, and i’m glad our Bucs are become one of the first choice for FA.
    Kudos to Glazers and JL…

    Joe,

Your stupid long winded adjectives to describe players is unreadable, tired and old.

I skip over the entire paragraph and then if I see it again I end up skipping the stuff you actually wrote and then get to the comments.

I can’t be the only one who is tired of seeing this.

It’s almost like you have a word count you have to hit and you use this as a crutch.

Joe absolutely refuses to write AP style. Never have, never will. Unless you buy this site and force Joe. Then, Joe won’t care if the place collapses. Joe would have already cashed out. 🙂

  10. Winny Testaverde Says:

Always interesting the bellyaching about the site which pumps out multiple, timely news & nuggets…as if it’s required reading from the GED class proctor or something. You go, Joe! You go! 🙂

I will say it again ‘Joes’ this is the best site for a Bucs fan. We are free to enjoy or not. 😀 GO BUCS!!!!

  12. crazyBucs_CL Says:

…Bucs officially are left with 9.6M from the 2021 cap sal. Our vote on which we should keep, became even harder….
..they should immediately do something with CG, to release some cash, or bye bye Succop, and/or Lenny, and/or AB…..

  13. Eric Brierton Says:

Keep succuop..he is a great kicker keep AB for sure. ..if shu costs too much prolly let him walk…but keep him if we get rid of OJ …well still have gronk and brate so no worries

  14. Jo_mama Says:

Yeah it’s a good site. Come every day. No one will ever confuse your skills for the AP.

But learn to grow and evolve and accept feedback for what it is.

Actually, the bitching is what’s grown old and tired.

  16. Bird Says:

Nah. The monikers are so lame and so strange
Just skip over. Brady could win 1 or 2 more here…and the following will still be the same :

    Jameis is a cult hero
    Brady is a creeper

    😂

..in life you except things as a package, with the positive, to be weighting more in balance then negatives…on this blog the positives are up to the sky.. so don’t let some extra use of “adjectives” interfere with your pleasure commenting/reading here…. after all J has feeling too, and he enjoys those damn “adjective thing”… but so what !!!!???? I guess you should grow up too. 🙂

  19. Steven007 Says:

I sympathize with Jo Mama and have said so in my own way many many times in the past. I can appreciate irreverence but it’s the rote repetition that grows tiresome. As if Jason licht doesn’t love any music aside from AC/DC. Not to mention the loathsome Peter King approaching Brady adjectives. And so many other examples. Anyone remember Ozark watching yam eating dirt koetter? Goodness. But content wise this is by far the best Bucs site and that’s why I’m here as often as I am. Sometimes you have to pick out the occasional sandspur when you go for a walk on the beach. Or in this case sandspurs plural 😉

  20. Joe in Michigan Says:

Winny Testaverde: I remember when the Bucs drafted Cadillac Williams in 2005, they showed Mike Williams (USC WR who was/is? from Tampa) yelling “That ain’t right!!”, as if Gruden had told him the Bucs were drafting him. I think Gruden may have also told Aaron Rodgers the same thing.

  21. Winny Testaverde Says:

    Joe in MI:

Exactly right…just a couple of examples. I believe he promised Keenan McCardell a raise/an extension and that situation went sideways as well. He became his own worst enemy…and he’s starting to do it in Vegas as well. I’m grateful for his one magical season…hope this honeymoon period of defending champs lasts longer than that one. I’m quite certain that it will.
