Mike Tannenbaum Thinks Julian Edelman Will Replace Antonio Brown With Bucs

March 20th, 2021

Ex-GM thinks he’s gone.

Mike Tannenbaum is connecting dots. But he’s missing one big dot.

The former Jets and Dolphins general manager and now the shot-caller of The 33rd Team football thinktank believes Belicheats wide receiver Julian Edelman is the odd man out in New England. His destination? Tampa Bay.

“One of the few players that they did not sign was Antonio Brown,” Tannenbaum said, apparently believing Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht has closed the books on Brown. “Where do aging, retired players go? They go south to Florida.

“When we connect the dots,” Tannenbaum added. “It makes a lot of sense.”

Does it? Does Tannenbaum not realize that Chris Godwin, who the Bucs just franchised and is one of the top receivers in the NFL, plays roughly half his snaps in the slot?

Tannenbaum talked as if Brown is finished with the Bucs and is headed elsewhere. Many free agent receivers signed only in the last 48 hours and many remain on the market. Joe doesn’t think for a second that Brown won’t play for the Bucs solely because he was not signed by St. Patrick’s Day.

Does Tannenbaum also believe Ndamukong Suh won’t play in Tampa this season? He has yet to re-sign. That, to Joe, hardly means Suh is playing elsewhere this fall. He may, but the Bucs haven’t been ruled out yet by Suh.

Look, Joe isn’t saying Edelman won’t be playing for the Bucs, especially if Brown doesn’t return. But it is way too premature to already be writing Brown’s obituary as a Tampa Bay receiver. Sure, it could happen, but it’s not locked in stone yet.

You can see Tannenbaum’s full take in the BSPN video below.

Suh and AB are coming back for this 2 in a row….they know it we know it, those who dont know it….come on man…

  2. MadMax Says:

This is stuff money cant buy…fk money!

  3. REDZONE BA Says:

Tannenbaum is on TV for a reason vs being a GM. Dude> Brady opinion matters. AB will be a BUC, period. And…if Brady wants J Edleman, he will be a Buc too! Don’t be clueless dude.

  4. BradentuckeyBuc Says:

Tyler Johnson > Julian Edelman = Pass, thanks for playing!

  5. Prince Says:

Juelz is still under contract… Unless he’s dropped I don’t see bucs trading with the pats or vice versa. Plus there’s a lot of questionmarks with him. And scotty is better at this point.

  6. firethecannons Says:

    yeah Edelman not necessary
Like to see more of Scooter and Tyler Johnson and AB

  7. windbaggery Says:

Tyler Johnson and Scotty Miller should be getting snaps. They don’t need Antonio Brown or Julian Edelman. Don’t spend extra money unless it buys you something you don’t already have.

  8. Swampbuc Says:

Tannenbaum obviously is a former GM for a very good reason, and now he’s showing signs of dementia. I like Justin Watson over Edelman. Hell I’d take Paris Warren over Edelman. What an idiot. Sloppy lazy twitter smearing.

  9. CleanHouse Says:

AB and LF get no props- they carried us through the playoffs and showed up in the Big Game.

  10. CleanHouse Says:

S potter and Tyler Johnson over Antonio Brown- delusional

One of the best ever to do it, was just getting warmed up.

  11. CleanHouse Says:

    *Scooter

  12. Adrnagy Says:

What kind of garbage article is this … and ppl here think I’m crazy. You’ all need to check your self

  13. Adrnagy Says:

Next article … humphries will replace Godwin.

  14. Adrnagy Says:

And all you bandwagons are going to like it.

  15. Swampbuc Says:

Ardnagy — either remember to take your medication and/or stop taking whatever you’re taking. A dog with a keyboard can type out stuff more coherent than your babble.

  16. Bruce Blahak Says:

Need backup QB and defensive linemen. No more flashy offensive weapons. Bigger holes to fill with little cash.

  17. Chris Thomas from Heaven Says:

He meant to say James White will replace Lenny

  18. IrishTony Says:

The guy they should have signed was Jamal Williams (RB) from Green Bay someone who can catch and run. i guess they’ll settle for White but they definitely need a pass catching back not necessarily a slot receiver.

  19. BertoRican Says:

Any media commentator saying Edelman to the Bucs doesn’t actually follow them and is just going to connect any and every Pats free agent to the Bucs and Tom Brady in an attempt to fill air time. The Bucs receiving corps is deep enough to that even AB is a luxury, as good as he is. So, this Edelman to the Bucs speculation is hot air.

  20. Bucs Guy Says:

We don’t need Edelman. James White yes, Edelman no.
    Draft a receiver to develop.

  21. Leighroy Says:

The royal Tannenbaum also predicted yesterday that Tom Brady will win the 2026 Super Bowl with our Tampa Bay Bucs, defeating the Mexico City Seahawks.

So uh, we have that going for us too….

  22. cape codder Says:

Over the last few years, Edelman has lost his hands. Don’t do it.

  23. Jaymiss Pick6 Again Says:

@ Adrnagy…”What kind of garbage article is this..” Bro – what are you so pissed about?

    @Leighroy..As always – that’s pretty funny!

  24. Kentucky Buc Says:

Over the last few years E has been playing injured. Shoulder and knee injuries. Could be a good depth piece at this stage of his career. AB is not that easily replaced. He was just really starting to come into it after a year off. Look how long it took Gronk. Love TJ and his potential. The more the merrier if u fit them under the cap. AB is probably looking for a payday if he can get one. His window is closing. It would be nice if you had TJ Scotty and Edelman as your second tier for injury insurance. Licht has done an incredible job so far so let’s all have faith in him to wrap the free agency up with style. Nice to have all these options though. When was the last time you can remember Bucs fans arguing about whether to take someone like AB or JW or Edelman

  25. Allbuccedup Says:

What ever Lola wants Lola gets! In Bucs terminology what ever Brady wants Brady gets. Brown and Edelman!

  26. DaBux Says:

AB will be back. That 4 WR set is deadly.

  27. Eddie Says:

I think Mike Tannenbaum should be concerned with his own team, if you want to call them that. He has his hands full trying to make The Jets competitive.

  28. James Blanchard Says:

Edelman isn’t going anywhere! Hell! We’ll give AB another shot in New England! We know BB is gonna adopt both Cam and Antonio!

  29. Hodad Says:

Godwin is the slot, AB can line up outside, or in, Edelman can’t. A.B. really has no where else to go, he’ll come back cheap with incentives like last year. A pass catch ing back is what we need more than another receiver.

  30. TOM Says:

Wow! I’m really not sure but I think Miller & Johnson are quite capable at wr that we could live without having AB or Edelman & draft a wr at some point. After saying that I would not be opposed to having AB or Edelman on the cheap.

  31. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

I love Julien Edleman and a big upgrade to Johnson and Scooter but not as much as AB. Edleman is beat up and broken now but still one of the pound for pound toughest guys to play the game. Anyone who craps on White hasn’t seen him play. William’s will cost too much.

  32. Buczilla Says:

JuJu Smith-Schuster just signed a one year deal for peanuts (relatively speaking) with Pittsburgh, so I don’t see Brown breaking the bank anywhere with his baggage. I think that if he’s not here this year Brady didn’t want him or a team in our division like the Saints and douchebag Payton lure him away to try and weaken us.

  33. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

FYI Bucs fans Russell Wilson is pushing for AB, he obviously knows a quality WR when he sees it. All those that think Johnson or Scooter could take his place be careful what you wish for, Metcalf and Brown on Seattle would make the NFC quite a bit more competitive.

  34. BillMFL Says:

Edelman was a badass tough guy slot receiver but he was used and abused like few receivers. The guy bounced up after being blasted over and over again. Probably still good in short yardage 3rd down situations but too much like a high milage off road vehicle abused for too long. Love the guys toughness and durability but way passed his prime.

  35. crazyBucs_CL Says:

..im 100% happy with what we got in this FA, and without trying to tell JL and his gang what to do…. i hope now their heads are turn to young kids….draft and hidden talents…👀

  36. Capt.Tim Says:

    Sign Suh and AB
By the way, Adam Humphries is a free agent.
Hes a lot like Edlemen, but cheaper

  37. Erick Says:

Patriot media bobos and fans have been saying this since Brady signed with the Bucs. Not happening for so many obvious reasons.

And you really can’t take anything that Tannebum or Mike Lombardi say. Just two Belichek bobos who talk out of the rectum.

If you want a good laugh, go look up Mike Lombardi talking pre-draft a couple years ago when he is discussing N’Keal Harry over DK Metcalf. It is an ALLTIME bad take!

  38. Winny Testaverde Says:

The Royal Tannenbaum at it again, eh. I picture his football career as a 3rd string lineman on jv as a senior. And although the did have a hand in dive bombing two AFC East franchises…it doesn’t make him an expert/insider on all things AFC East.

Personally I would prefer Brown over Edelman…very different players and something about becoming New England South doesn’t appeal to me. If both he & James White show up…that would be the feel.

  39. SOEbuc Says:

Why do you reference this guy,Joe? Looks to have worked with nothing but terrible teams with terrible players his entire career. At least I think the Rockstar is a decent TV analyst.

  40. SufferingSince76 Says:

Swampbuc, Adrnagy wants you to forget he’s still butt hurt that you know who is gone. He is now the resident troll.

  41. lambeau Says:

AB is the value pick–I’d guess Russell Wilson wants him and that’s our competition.
With Carson getting $5.5 M guaranteed plus incentives up to $6.9M, I’m thinking Lenny is absorbing that he won’t exceed $4 M, which will make Bucs possible.
Word in New England is that it’s James White more likely than Jules to end up in Tampa.

  42. SOEbuc Says:

I’ve said before, AB gives the Bucs the ultimate WR depth chart for our injury prone starters. Mike,Chris, AB,TJ is a carousel of great depth. I like Scotty too but at 5’9” he can’t even see over the LOS with all the in routes we run at #3WR. TJ will no doubt have more opportunities to shine 2021 and start 2022, but for now let’s keep AB. Him and Brady were heating up and i think it would only improve with two of the best all time at their position. SIGN AB!

  43. FactTeller Says:

FOH w this BS that would be a huge DOWNGRADE. So tired of media trying to push certain players they like. It’s easy to see why most of these talking heads are FORMER execs, etc. Sign Suh, AB,[ White as McCoy’s replacement]
Then restructure Jensen, Market, Goldstone, maybe and let’s add some secondary depth and get ready for draft. I think Lenny wants to start and carry the load elsewhere while making more money, I can’t blame him. However I’d welcome him back if he wants to stay and let’s strap in for this REPEAT.

    ALL FACTS no Cap

  44. Joeging Says:

    Cmon joe

  45. Mike28277 Says:

    Pass on JE

  46. stpetebucsfan Says:

This story amazes me. For you guys who actually watch the Bucs a Question.

Would you really want Edelman over Tyler Johnson who has perhaps a great future ahead of him and is just getting started.

How about Scottie who is now established. Edelman is going to play ahead of him after his season this past year?

IE Where is there even room on the field for Edelman? Even IF AB doesn’t resign.

  47. Jonny Says:

No thanks to Edelman. He’s often hurt nowadays and has produced much in 2 seasons. I would rather re-sign Adam Humphries.

  48. 6throundpick Says:

I like Edelman. However, AB is AB; just getting back to what he is capable of. I am looking forward to seeing TB2 and AB for a full on season. No way teams can cover all these guys. AB provides versatility, depth and a WR who can make ya go WOW!

  49. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

The team doesn’t need Edleman Bucs have Godwin. To address Johny Says, comparing Edleman to Johnson and Humphries is like comparing Winton to Brady. Edleman is one of the toughest ballers in the league constantly getting over looked because he is short and white. I challenge to watch just three games I. His career, the Seattle/Patriots SB, the Atlanta/Patriots SB and the Rams/Pats SB (by the way he was MVP. I agree Bucs don’t need him but don’t down play his talent. On the other hand if AB isn’t signed, HUGE blow to offense and a repeat SB is questionable.

  50. SOEbuc Says:

Edleman is still under contract in NE. No clue why his name is mentioned.

  51. PatsFanToo Says:

Edelman has had so many blows to the head over his long career he should retire now. He has has a lot of drops in his last few years with Brady. Right now AB and Scot M. and Tyler J. are way better than Jr Edelman. Please stop talking about getting him for his own wewll being he should retire.
