Ian Rapoport: Bucs Want Antonio Brown Back

March 12th, 2021

“Show me the money, Jason.”

Yesterday, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport was on Rich Eisen’s Peacock show and was dropping all sorts of knowledge on Bucs players.

One such player was furniture-tossing, bicycle-throwing receiver Antonio Brown.

In short, Rapoport said Brown wants to play with park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing Bucs Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady again and likes the Bucs.

The Bucs, in turn, like Brown. Of course, in between is both sides making a specific dollar figure work?

“And then you have Antonio Brown who wants to be back with the Bucs,” Rapoport said. “They want him back. Brady wants him back. What’s that number going to be?

“It’s never going to be as high as you think, especially in this ridiculous year. So what does he be willing to accept to play with Tom Brady again? I think that is a legitimate question. His market will be fascinating, too.”

Last year, Brown cashed in $2 million of Team Glazer loot for half a season. Would he want to double that for 2021? Can Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht find the extra change under the couch pillows?

Joe suspects we won’t know about Brown or Ndamukong Suh’s status for a few weeks. It’s going to be a buyer’s market and a lot of good players who normally would make a haul will be driving salaries down.

Remember, when Suh first signed with the Bucs, he didn’t put pen to paper until the middle of May. Brown might be a long wait, too.

Meanwhile, you can listen to Rapoport discuss all things Bucs in the Peacock video below.

  1. westernbuc Says:

Good, if AB screws up between now and then he might come cheaper

  2. Colonel_mp Says:

Can we just say goodbye to OJ Howard already? We know he will be the one where cap space is created to fit the guys Brady wants.

  3. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

He is a must sign and he will prove why.

  4. Casual Observer Says:

I didn’t much like his signing but was wrong about him. He has been an outstanding WR. No surprise that Brady wants him back. Sure hope the money is there.

  5. Mitch Says:

His court date in December must be moved in order for me to even start negotiating. If it can even be moved at this point..

  6. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It’s a civil case, so I’m not to bothered by it….

Tom Brady has the hammer here….he can “strongly suggest” his cooperation on extension and cap savings is to bring back those two.

You know how it’s done…….Tom ‘I really want to help the team with the 21 cap”
    Licht “That’s great, Tom”
Tom” And, you know….I’d really hopes you to bring back Gronk & AB”
Licht “We’ll see what we can do, Tom”

  7. Robert Says:

He will be more valuable than CG if we are going for another SB

  8. Wesley Says:

One of our last free agents we need to worry about signing.

  9. ModHairKen Says:

I also thought it was going to be a mistake signing AB. He really did a great job. I hope he likes Tampa and is happy and keeps being happy. He has tremendous skills.

  10. Joe in Michigan Says:

Yes, Robert. There’s so much of a sample size to back up your comment of AB always being better than CG in the Super Bowl. One game. Is Cam Gill the Bucs next great pass rusher, because he had 1/2 a sack in that one game?

  11. Beeej Says:

Guys AB’s age are always having various pulled muscle, etc. Mebbe he can teach CG and ME13 how NOT to do that

  12. BuccaneerButters Says:

I mean civil case, shouldn’t necessarily mean anything. If it was criminal, I don’t think he’d have played for us at the very least. That being said, the NFL doesn’t care if it’s criminal or civil, so there is risk regardless. Hopefully he’s willing to understand.

  13. Bird Says:

Michael thomas just restructured deal and saints still way over cap
They have like 8 guys already restructuring

Saints have been kicking the can down the road for last 5 years to win championship . And just when 100 mil over cap with brees deal still on books they kick it further down the road.

And they havent learned cause doing it again is only more dead cap issues
Payton is a great mind. But how can he get away with these bad decisions
Someone is asking to get fired.

Michael thomas will have so much dead cap. He may make 30 mil one year and he looked pretty human last year. Bad injuries involved but they could have serious problem with having to pay big for a guy that is ehhh

  14. Chris Thomas from Heaven Says:

We need him b/c Evans & Godwin are ALWAYS banged-up. Insurance policy

  15. 6throundpick Says:

Brown will have a big season. He was not good- like Gronk -for the first 6 or so games last season…both took time off; their timing was off. AB gives the team different looks, depth and a breakout player. And if he had just come off one of his typical seasons, everyone would be hoping he signs with TB.

  16. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

this is news? Why do you think the Bucs tagged Godwin? Who wanted Godwin? Brady and Bruce (fits his new scheme like a tight cond0m).

Who wants AB? lol, seriously, who brought him into his own home?

  17. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

this is news? Why do you think the Bucs tagged Godwin? Who wanted Godwin? Brady and Bruce (fits his new scheme like a tight glove – is the better for moderation Joe?).

Who wants AB? lol, seriously, who brought him into his own home?

  18. Beeej Says:

Is it safe to assume the staff doesn’t view Scooter as an every-down receiver?

  19. LISTNFRMAFAR Says:

Agreed 6throundpick and he was a 6th round pick. He played one game in NE and had 5 receptions and a TD. He’s pretty good.

  20. Joe in Michigan Says:

Senor Harry: Agreed, AB would never have even been a Buc if not for Brady. After winning a Super Bowl together with no problems from AB (that we know of), of course TB wants him back.

  21. Joe in Michigan Says:

    1 year, $5 million?

  22. Robert Says:

@ joe in MI…… he had more targets than CG and ME, not just in the SB and the chemistry will only get better….and you can bet CG or ME will be banged up at some time. AB does has a much longer history of success than CG. He’s older, but proven durable and clutch. you can’t say that about CG in the playoffs. I am not sampling one game.

  23. SOEbuc Says:

    Bird

    “Payton is a good man.”

    Get the f#ck out!

  24. PassingThru Says:

Yes it is a civil case against Brown, but that wouldn’t stop Goodell from suspending him, especially if it made the other owners happy. But in a weird way that might help the Bucs, as you’d think juries would be more lenient on fairly local sports heroes.

I don’t think there’s much market for Brown. At worst I expect him to play at a near-elite level, and at WR3? That’s insanely great.

  25. Cainishere Says:

Antonio Brown showed us that he is a more mature individual who is grateful to have the opportunity to play with the Buccaneers. To not have his rare talent back would be a travesty.

  26. SufferingSince76 Says:

He said Payton had a great mind, not he was a good man.

  27. BillMFL Says:

Sneaky fast, quick cuts, great hands, what qb wouldn’t want AB. Brady the team mental therapy COACH ! took AB in and kept him grounded. Brady gets major respect and has solidified the whole team. I say keep the winning core together for another run at the Super Bowl.

  28. Boobyorrwasagod Says:

As someone mentioned he is clutch …nrady got sick of godwin and evans dropping passes and always being hurt..scotty Miller drops fewer passes even…Tommy knows brown is like gronk…they catch the important balls …they don’t choke!! Hopefully, Brown’s knee is ok..ps…tommy’s knee looked really bad n the beckham video
