“Good Momentum”

March 8th, 2021

Nearing new deal with Bucs.

It seems just a matter of time before we learn park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking, tequila-shooting, waffle-grilling, trophy-throwing, Bucs Super Bowl-winning quarterback Tom Brady will be leading Tampa Bay for a bit longer than the 2021 season.

Over the weekend, well-plugged in Josina Anderson, formerly of BSPN, Twittered that Brady and the Bucs were “getting close” on a contract extension for the 43-year old signal-caller.

Now comes word from Adam Schefter of BSPN that major progress was made to get that extension finished, so Schefter reported this morning on “Stay in Bed.”

“I was told over the weekend there is momentum — good momentum — for Tom Brady to get an extension done,” Schefter said. “At this point in time it looks like him and Tampa will be able to work out an extension.”

This is great news, of course. because a new contract would be structured to free up cap room to help the Bucs try to keep their Big 8 free agents. But it was something Schefter added that had Joe’s ears rise.

A contract extension for Brady “will allow them to build the type of roster Tom Brady wants that would help them in his eyes try to repeat and defend their Super Bowl championship,” Schefter said.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Build the roster Tom Brady wants? Hell, the Bucs just won a friggin’ Super Bowl! This wasn’t good enough? Or Brady wants to fundamentally change the makeup of the offensive roster?

Didn’t Brady come to Tampa Bay, in part, because of the personnel?

Does Brady somehow want to replace Chris Godwin with Odell Beckham?

Or, if Brady is getting an extension, is he using his production with the Bucs (Super Bowl trophy) as leverage to have a say-so with the roster?

Very, very interesting words from a guy like Schefter who is not known to throw feces against the wall.

Odell ? Lol. I would like imo Fitzgerald better if Godwin takes off.

  2. August 1976 Buc Says:

Brady knows what it is like to be hounded and Sacked, see (NY Giants beat the 18-0 Pats in the Super Bowl) So this is great news as far as keeping the defensive front 7 intact. Look at the Patriot’s defensive ranking in the 6 Super Bowls the Pats won with Brady. And the awesome run through the playoffs would never have happened without great defense being played. Yes they scored 30 a game, but that would not have been enough to win a Championship without great defense. GO BUCS!!!!

  3. Beeej Says:

I’m thinking he wants a better pass catching running back, like James White, for instance

  4. Show Me the TDs Says:

After the Bucs won the Superbowl I think TB12 saw the opportunity to be the 1st to win 3 in a row. He would put a capstone on his legacy and then retire. Just a guess.

  5. Adrnagy Says:

    3 in a row ? I think he wants 10

  6. Bird Says:

    Beeej

Good chance james white on team
He caught 87 balls just a few years ago in one season and 12 tds
The offense will be even better / more efficient with a third down block who knows how to pass protect.

In regards to the rest of the article. 😂. Gimme a break. Brady has said time after time he loves this team …these guys. He said if the season lasted another month it would have continued to get better. Brady even said next year the team will be better next year.

He has said multiple times godwin has the best hands he has ever played with. (Which is not true cause randy moss was that guy. ) Regardless , he does not want beckham over godwin. That is laughable. The browns dont even want obj anymore. Godwin a young but savy receiver who can catch and block which you have to do in slot with arians system.

He is redoing his deal to keep as many guys he can. Plus coach and gm already confirmed brady not involved with demanding certain players
People just love trying to spin something negative here.
    Again its laughable.

  7. Casual Observer Says:

Keep him with the Bucs in some capacity after his playing days are over. Seems to be a long way off though. Amazing talent.

  8. Shecky Says:

I wouldn’t put any credence at all in the Beckham rumor. The Beckham conjecture happened every second year while Brady was in NE. I’ve no doubt OBJ would like to play w/ Brady and they are friends but with a salary of $15.6M next season?
    Uhh…no thanks.

  9. Mitch Says:

Good! Makes sense for all sides.

I also saw Schefter reported that Tom “might want” Odell. I genuinely hope that doesn’t happen.

  10. Youngbucs Says:

This thread should be entertaining 🐐😂

  11. TheShaz Says:

Brady has won for two decades with a mix match at WR & RB

I like Godwin, but he a SB winning WR and a Free Agent. Some team will offer him so much he can’t refuse.

There are other WR’s that want a legit shot at a ring and right now Tom Brady is the gateway to a legit shot in the eyes of many Free Agents.

IMHO the key is the defense. A great offense can get you to the playoffs, a great defense wins the playoffs and championships.

As much as I would love to keep the 2020 Bucs together. We all know that cannot happen. We just won the Super Bowl and and Championship teams get their pockets filched.

We will be fine as long as we replace caliber for caliber.

IMHO there are other WR’s out there but there are not many players like Barret.

  12. Leighroy Says:

I hang on the minutiae of Schefter’s quotes like I do the musings of Ndog. He’s paid to blabber for the 4-letter.

All rosters being equal, the only thing different I could see Brady wanting would have been James White.

  13. Show Me the TDs Says:

Adrnagy, if he wants 10 and doesn’t get 3 in a row, he better hurry up before osteoporosis sets in.

  14. BillyBucFan Says:

The OBJ “might” happen next year but doesn’t make sense this year.
When you go for 2 you want everything the same.
Godwin is too familiar to Brady now. He stays.

  15. SlyPirate Says:

Brady is on record saying priority #1 is bringing the defense back. For Brady, restructuring is more about Shaq, LVD, and Suh than Godwin, AB, and Fournette.

  16. SOEbuc Says:

I am so f#cking down for Tom to become Bucs HC when he’s does end his QB days. He might be done on the field (whoever the hell knows when) but it seems like he will never be able to get out of the game. Maybe leader of FO behind (combined) with Licht. Doubt it would be Cheesy Bob and Bellicheat.

  17. PSL Bob Says:

To me it’s just poor word selection on Schefter’s part. I think his point is that an extension of Brady’s contract will help the Bucs keep the FAs that helped get the Bucs to the SB. Don’t read too much into it – just poor phraseology. I think TB is perfectly content with the folks that are already on the roster, with perhaps the sole exception of a pass catching RB.

  18. 6throundpick Says:

Don’t get Super Bowl hangover. The same exact team will not win every year; it’s not cookie cutter stuff. The game changes; teams change. They will say: What do we need to do to beat Tampa Bay, and set out to do it. Think like winners. What does Tampa Bay need to stay on top; win MORE Super Bowls. Enjoy the ride.

  19. Topdoggie Says:

SOE Gisel made Tom skip OTAs to be home with family. No way she puts up with 90 hour weeks as a head coach.

  20. Pickgrin Says:

Brady wants to add James White or some similarly adept pass catching running back – Duh…..

  21. FirstTimePoster Says:

31 other teams are giving us the finger about our “problems”

  22. ArmchairGM Says:

Would this count as the first Bucs QB to get a 2nd contract?
