Free Agent Battle Plan

March 15th, 2021

Plans for the week.

Busy, busy, busy Monday and a hectic week ahead for Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht.

Still smelling of the Hillsborough River, the man who built a Super Bowl-winning roster may have an even bigger task this week: keeping that championship team together.

The high hurdle is somehow retaining Bucs sack king Shaq Barrett. Many expect Shaq to cash in on his play the past two seasons at the most important position on a defense.

“He probably deserves it,” said James Palmer of NFL Network. “That probably leaves an edge rusher as a big, big, big need for them” if Shaq doesn’t return. He added that Shaq staying is “not completely out the window.”

Palmer had an update on the battleplans for Licht this week with legal tampering underway. “There is a lot of phone calls Jason Licht is trying to make right now,” Palmer said.

One former NFL agent said he believes Shaq may get $22 million a year.

It irks the hell out of Joe to think the Bucs might nickel-and-dime a guy like Shaq who could have been the Super Bowl MVP and who totally balled out in the playoffs. Yet Licht just built a Super Bowl team, so how is Joe supposed to argue with any of Licht’s moves?

You can see and hear Palmer’s full report on the Bucs in the NFL Network video below.

We barely give Brady $22 million perc year

    Stay calm Joe.

I don’t think Licht is falling for Shaq. Certainly not giving him $20M/yr trying to bring back WIN NOW 2.0. Him and Bowels are great scouts and don’t think they haven’t been scouting good replacements for less since the day after the SB.

If Shaq wants $22 mil & Bucs don’t want to go that high, I’d hardly call it “nickle & diming” him.

Why wouldn’t it be the other way around….and Shaq be the one nickle-and-dime……
