Bucs Lose A Safety

Well, the entire Band of Bucs won’t be coming back.

Backup safety Andrew Adams was signed by the Eagles this morning, per Zach Berman of The Athletic.

Adams played and excelled in some critical snaps for the Bucs, including the playoffs. When Jordan Whitehead blew out his shoulder in the NFC title game at Green Bay, Antoine Winfield was already out.

So Adams damn near played an entire second half when the Bucs defense shined, keeping Aaron Rodgers and the Packers out of the end zone in the fourth quarter, holding the Packers to a field goal in the final 15 minutes.

Adams was a big piece of the Bucs’ secondary depth. Jeff Kerr of CBS Sports notes Adams was one of the best cover-safeties in the NFL last season.

Oh well, we can’t keep everyone! But at least we are keeping most of our team together.

  2. Chris Thomas from Heaven Says:

Whitehead plays like a ballistic missile so we need a good back-up when he gets injured again

  3. Steven007 Says:

Adams was a good backup and added great depth. He will need to be replaced. Obviously we can’t resign everyone and so I guess we’re going to have a few of these.

  4. FlBoy84 Says:

Plenty of sold safety depth still out there.

  5. Alanbucsfan Says:

Sounds like a safety will get drafted in 1st 3 rounds

  6. Mitch Says:

Dang. I was hoping him and Cockrell would be back.

  7. Casual Observer Says:

Draft needs are coming into focus.

  8. Rick Says:

good teams keep the guys they must keep and let replaceable players go and find new ones in the draft… losing Andrew Adams is not even conversation worthy.

  9. Cainishere Says:

Great depth player. Wish him all the best.

  10. unbelievable Says:

Yup, he was quality depth no doubt.

    Next man up!

  11. pewter941 Says:

He wasnt bad, he wasnt good. He was just a guy. should be able to draft a safety better than him like we did Whitehead in 4th or 5th rd.

  12. Casual Observer Says:

As FL Boy hints, possibly instead of a draft pick, there will be some good backup, experienced safeties recently cut out there. Trust Licht.

  13. TonyBuc Says:

Adams wants to start, not be a situational backup. Period. Can’t blame him.

  14. 123urout Says:

    never heard of this guy.

  15. TiredBucsFan Says:

He will be missed for sure. All the best to him.

  16. Destinjohnny Says:

He didn’t play bad in pressure sits.
    Good depth

  17. ModHairKen Says:

    Bye bye bye

  18. TiredBucsFan Says:

    Go get Andrew Sendejo

  19. Youngbucs Says:

He reminds me of the Tandy man not spectacular but gets the job done.

  20. TheShaz Says:

Not a starter but we need depth.

This may be replaced via draft.

Keeping the entire 2020 roster is near impossible in the age of Free Agency.

What we have been able to sign so far has been amazing.

Good luck Andrew. Thank you for 2020.

  21. FlBoy84 Says:

For those who’ve never heard of him, he was a solid starter/backup for us who just got overtaken by better players in Whitehead and Winfield. Had 4 picks for us in ’18. A ton of solid vet options out there, one that will prob get added on a team-friendly 1yr deal as the $$ starts to dry up. More options than jobs avail at this point.

  22. chris L Says:

he had that epic game picking off newton three times! see ya next year gravedigger

  23. Cobraboy Says:

Decent player, I wish him well.

  24. 813bucboi Says:

tough seeing him go…he played well…i remember he picked off cam newton 3 or 4 times in 1 game…lol…

    edwards played great…we’ll be drafting a S & CB…

    GO BUCS!!!

  25. Admiral Redbeard Says:

What about picking up Patrick Peterson to backup at safety and corner? If he’s looking for a ring, we could probably get him for the vet minimum, and his experience in Todd Bowles defense could only help the young guys.

  26. Marine Buc Says:

Easily replaced either in the mid-late rounds of the draft.

I wish AA all the luck… He was a solid backup.

  27. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Got to find some positions to draft. I am hoping we save our high picks for the trenches:

    First: DT
    Second: Edge
    Third: OT
    Fourth: DT
    Fifth: Safety
    Sixth: Returner
    Seventh: LB

  28. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Meant to say Second: Kicker – lol

  29. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

He made some decent plays. If he excels there the haters will blame Licht for letting him get away.

I wish him luck against anyone but the Bucs.

  30. SlyPirate Says:

Safeties are tough to come by in FA this year. Good for him. Bucs can draft his replacement.

  31. Steven007 Says:

Admiral, Peterson signed with the Vikings.

  32. Capt.Tim Says:

    Good luck young man.

Ive said it earlier, but with our 4 th pick-Id like to see us draft a big, in the box safety- for running plays and goal line defense. We have great safeties, but they are on the small side.

  33. Jerry Says:

He wanted to start. Wasn’t going to get that here. Replace him in the draft.

  34. BigMacAttack Says:

I agree we need to draft another good safety in the early rounds.

  35. SOEbuc Says:

I don’t know why ppl are saying he was good depth. Maybe they just remember the four INT game but I thought he was garbage this year. Easily replaceable to get a better backup on the cheap with Bucs gravity probably.

  36. TOM EDRINGTON Says:

Lost a back-up safety……how in the hell will they ever contend in the NFC South again?

  37. Topdoggie Says:

Draft needs this year. BEST available player. They will be needed in the future and it9 rare teams actually get to do it. If you do the I want a DT in the first round you may end up with a guy who should have went in the top half of the 3rd round.

  38. adam from ny Says:

adams is one of these guys…

    nacho
    minter
    adams
    cockrell
    mclendon

guys you need for quality emergency depth, as nfl seasons are defined by injuries and how you get through them as an organization…

def a bit of a loss here broheims

  39. geno711 Says:

I would not be surprised if the Buc’s draft a corner fairly early.
It is a passing league and Carlton Davis will be a free agent next year.
Shaquill Griffin just got 3 years and 40 million with 29 million guaranteed.

As someone else said, Bowles knows how to select guys on defense that he knows will work out well.

You need at least 4 viable corners on your team especially how much guys at that position get injured.

  40. Mort Says:

Y’all we are talking about our #4 safety.

  41. daniel Da Man Says:

He will have time to enjoy the x mills when the birds lose out not even makings the playoffs.
Another ring isn’t in his future.

  42. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Mort Says: “Y’all we are talking about our #4 safety.”

Exactly – this is why a safety can wait to the later rounds. Need to beef up the trenches

  43. JimmyJack Says:

I think yall should realuze its not easy at all to replace Adams in the draft. How many times you watch a game on Sunday and see a good QB lighting up a rookie DB who was pressed into action? Ill answer, every Sunday.

Adams never got picked on like that. He was as good solid backup. Luckily, Bowles and staff do a great job developing DBs. They may draft a replacement and make it look easy but trust me its not.

  44. 941Boltsfan Says:

Alright now we got something to target and look forward to in the Draft!!! Good for Andrew Adams hopefully getting paid!

  45. IrishMist Says:

Obviously, the Packers liked the way he played against them in the NFC championship. But it seemed like once we lost Whitehead and Adams came in, Rogers started picking us apart. We just got lucky GB’s coach chickened out on going for the TD on 4th down.

  46. David Says:

Hurts the depths a little bit but that’s all they lost so far, that’s not bad!

  47. ItzOK Says:

This reminds me of the Bucs in the late 90’s and early 00’s. You know you have a damn good team when your backups go elsewhere and are starters.

  48. Bucanero Says:

    Hope we draft db
