The Bucs’ COVID Scare

February 9th, 2021

Panic avoided.

There is a trainer out there working for the Bucs who is lucky he didn’t have to revive Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians.

Joe is almost surprised the 68-year old Super Bowl-winning coach and the best coach to roam a Bucs sideline didn’t have cardiac arrest prior to the Super Bowl when he was fed bad intel on a Bucs player.

Two nights before the Super Bowl, the Bucs got their second major scare of the postseason when Arians was informed Mike Edwards had tested positive for The Sickness, types Sam Farmer of the Los Angeles Times. After a rough few hours for Arians, he later learned the awful but innocent mistake.

“Friday night I get a text from our trainers that Mike Edwards tested positive,” Arians said, referring to a Buccaneers defensive back, “and we were already down two safeties.

“It was Mike Edwards Sr.,” the coach said. “They didn’t check the birthday. I said, ‘Oh, thanks. I didn’t get any sleep.’”

Yes, it was an innocent mistake. If Joe were Arians, Joe would have absolutely wanted to choke someone. Good thing Arians didn’t have to go to the hospital himself. Geez.

Outside of Devin White testing positive and having to sit out two games, the Bucs really avoided a major COVID outbreak all season. And in retrospect that two-game unplanned vacation for White was just right. When he returned, the dude played like he was shot out of a cannon.

    Devin white after his pick
He walks up to tv / camera in corner of endzone
    Takes off his helmet

    And screams
“This is my f ing house”

    Loved it.
White has a chance to be tops in nfl

We have been blessed with middle linebackers
Hardy , brooks , LVD and now white

  2. bojim Says:

    Best wishes for Edwards dad.

  3. firethecannons Says:

Joe you are right, Devin White was a bat outta hell in a good way. He played lights out! He put those 2 weeks off to good, but when we played Washington we struggled. White has leadership also that usually is good for nothing but matters to this defense. Look forward to rewatching all the playoff games over the time off.
Joe, an article on draft needs soon.

Joe, an article on draft needs soon.

    Bucs draft need:

    Trophy-polisher.

  5. Casual Observer Says:

Draft discussion doesn’t make much sense until we know who is leaving. Got to be some of our top players. Then, fill those holes with draft/trades/FAs.

  6. Steven007 Says:

With our season going gloriously, uncommonly long, it’s just a few weeks until the league year actually restarts again which of course means free agency. Usually we have nearly 2 months of chatter about that instead of just a few weeks. Nice change!

  7. Steven007 Says:

5 weeks away to be exact. March 17th. Can’t believe that’s so close already…

  8. AtlBuc Says:

I would like to keep as many players as possible but, if we lose some there will be free agents lined up to play with Brady. I would not trade Barrett for JJ Watt tho

  9. Casual Observer Says:

    Keep Barrett for sure.

  10. SC Bucs Fan Says:

Joe LOVE LOVE LOVE your draft needs

  11. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Who would you want…JPP or J.J. Watt?

  12. Mitch Says:

Scotty in Fat Antonio JPP is under contract next year. Besides that JPP over Watt all day. JPP is a warrior and played the entire year with a chronic knee injury that limited him to 75% overall health ( his words) , and he still lead the team in sacks, got 2 INT’s, made the pro bowl and is a super bowl champion. He also has NEVER lost in the post season.

JJ was a dominant player but his injuries and age are apparent. He also doesn’t play inside like JPP will. I would be hesitant to bring him in. Especially after this last year of play.

    I like your take Mitch

  14. Buddhaboy 19 Says:

    Wow, crazy.

Anyone still upset we drafted White when we did? Getting comparisons to Ray Lewis by some folks, is a grand slam in my book. Ray Ray Lewis was a top five defensive player in history IMO, and not just his play. Much like the greats, he made sure others around him played to their fullest potential. Not sure if White will ever get to that, but anywhere close will be good for our Bucs moving forward.

  15. Jason From Jamrock Says:

we NEED Defensive End, and to get younger on the D=line generally…

    … we’ll need a QB too.

  16. Buddhaboy 19 Says:

@Fat Antonio – I would take JPP all day. He plays through injuries, comes up big in the BIG games, and can handle the Florida heat no problem.

OH, and he now has 3 Super Bowls, I think he could make a good case for the HOF?

    JPP

  17. mg Says:

    Agree, bojim.

  18. Jason From Jamrock Says:

as for that other question – JPP ALL DAY, EVERYDAY!!!

    Best ability – availABILITY !!!

  19. Im tired and 87 is right Says:

Must resign Godwin as well. Go Bucs!! SB champs!!

  20. adam from ny Says:

    Joe:

any chance we can recruit sean payton to come in once a month as
    “trophy – polisher”

dude would look fly in a maids outfit

  21. Mitch Says:

It’s been reported by NBC sports that Mike Evans told Bruce Arians he will restructure his contract to bring all they boys back. He has a 16.6 million cap hit which is already well below market value.

Can the man be more selfless?

  22. Cainishere Says:

Just read about how the Chiefs were the 4th most penalized team in the league this past season. The reason I bring this up is because the team is so arrogant that they actually think that they are above all of those flags and should not have to be bothered with them. They think they can hold and commit pass interference penalties because they are the Chiefs. Wake up Chiefs you are one of the sloppiest teams in the league and then you wonder why.

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

If somehow we can keep Godwin, Shaq & Gronk…….the draft can help us replace Suh & add to the Dline….

It’s amazing to just now start to talk about the draft & FA….

Regardless of FA….we need to draft Edge rusher & DT high…..

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Oops…..forgot LVD…..

  25. adam from ny Says:

    Mitch:

awesome unselfish move by ME13, but in all reality, dude might be walking a tight rope right now with that salary and wanting to stick around…

i don’t want to say any more…of course i want ME13 to finish his career here as a buc…

    but…

we’ve got an overload of receivers, and and not that much money to go around…

what if brady says privately i want and prefer AB over ME…please sign him back…

    and we sign godwin…

    somethings gotta give…

    hopefully it isn’t ME13…

sad to say, but something has to give in the receiver room…

also on a receiver needy team, that could have played a rookie heavily this year, tyler johnson prolly could have grabbed 60 balls for about 800 yards…

    just sayin’

  26. adam from ny Says:

also scottie was pacing for 1,000 yards before ABs arrival…

our receiver room is like overstock .com

  27. TampaTown Says:

Omg I’m with Joe. Let’s just enjoy this moment for awhile

  28. Cainishere Says:

To lose ME or CG or any of our receivers would be a travesty. We need to become a bit more creative with the contracts. Yes the players all need paid but they should want to remain a Buccaneer given the fact that we will want to attempt a repeat and will need everyone back. The odds of finding a replacement of equal skill are low. Show some devotion Buccaneers. Do not be like all the rest and play for just the money. I mean you make a lot already. So you aren’t the highest paid at your position. Where will you find a better situation than you have right now?
GO BUCS!!!! Brady for head coach after Arians retires!!!

  29. Buc1987 Says:

TampaTown…yep I’ve been smiling a lot more for the past 2 days and I know why.

I’m wondering if any one of the big 3 are going to ever show up and chime in. The big 3, Ndog, Realist, or T max.

T max by now surely has something to say…

  30. SB : Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

    On a side note;
We will NEVER have to see Ndog or Bucco Realisto EVER again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  31. Buc50 Says:

I’d take JPP over JJ everyday of the week and twice on Sunday. He shows up every week with club hand and broken neck and delivers.

  32. SufferingSince76 Says:

Bird, thanks for the translation on White. I thought he said ‘kiss my f****** a**’!! Guess it was just my dirty mind.

  33. adam from ny Says:

    @Buc1987 :

the big 3 are in heavy discussions with belicheat…

they are putting together a game plan and how to approach this situation moving forward 🙂

    #TheyAreCurrentlyPrettyJammedUp #ButtPlugCity

  34. Mitch Says:

@adam I can understand where you’re coming from, but I think the Bucs are more likely to see Chris Godwin sign a big contract somewhere else. Mike is untouchable.

  35. adam from ny Says:

    i hear ya mitch…. ^^^^^^^^

something has to give with the “big 3”

    13, 14, and 81

81 will prolly do some crazy sheet really soon tho…like really crazy…and will solve the issue based solely on his antics…lol

(like blow up a pf changs or drive thru a denny’s in a mack truck – tom can only hope to contain him)

  36. orlbucfan Says:

Methusaleh12 pulls a fast one and tells the coaches to sign Brown, and not Ungodly CG14, he better get his wrinkled GOAT arse kicked out of Tampa Bay! CG14, LVD and WGholston ( who no one has mentioned, including Joes) will be back here next season. ME13 is on board with it. It will not surprise me if JPP retires cos he has 3 rings now. His neck injury scared the ######out of
    him.

  37. David Says:

I’ll tell you what, every time Edwards steps in there as another safety or replacement, he has played great

  38. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

They avoided it because it’s no more infectious than anything else!! Plus Devin White DIDN’T have it because he showed no symptoms!! Anyone notice they started using a different test as soon as Trump was out of office, and they took down the “death counter” that has been a staple of CNN all year right after Biden took office … Wake up people!! Take off the gags (masks) because they have lied to you and now they’re trying to weasel their way out of it!!

  39. Brandon Says:

Bird… hate to break that bad news. Brooks and David aren’t middle linebackers.
