It’s Christmas At SMB’s House

February 10th, 2021

Anyone that tries to shame Sean Murphy-Bunting in his neighborhood should have their power shut off in the middle of July.

You know how it is; folks leave their Christmas lights or Christmas decorations up until the middle of January or — gasp! — February? The neighbors try to shame them. Passersby point fingers. Children giggle.

“Lazy a-holes!”

If you live up north (Joe has seen the weather reports and feels your pain — just a little, as it is expected to be 80 today for the Bucs’ boat parade) you may be able to skate (pun unintended) because the weather is awful and no sane human climbs ladders in ice storms.

But Bucs cornerback Sean Murphy-Bunting, who had a helluva postseason with three interceptions, still has his Christmas tree up. And his neighbors can take a hike if they think SMB will take it down anytime soon.

While on “Good Morning Football” today, seen weekdays on NFL Network, SMB said he was scared to take his tree down because the Bucs kept winning. The Bucs finished the season on an eight-game winning streak to capture the Vince Lombardi Trophy.

You know, this is sort of like a playoff beard in the NHL. Players don’t shave so long as their team remains alive for the Stanley Cup.

No Sean, don’t let your neighbors shame you. Keep that tree up! In fact, Joe just may buy a Christmas tree ornament and send it to One Buc Palace, care of Murphy-Bunting. A single dude with a tree? If he is like Joe’s friends in college, the ornaments consisted of beer cans and assorted other items Joe cannot go into detail about here.

SMB’s tree looks pretty bare.

Hey, SMB could have a worse superstition. He could have not changed underwear or not brushed his teeth during the win streak.

Also in his interview, SMB said in the two weeks prior to the Super Bowl, Bucs defensive backs would get together outside of One Buc Palace for film sessions of their own to brainstorm how to stop Pat Mahomes.

    I have superstition too.

  2. Mitch Says:

He has his Xmas tree and I didn’t wash or take the tag off of my Brady jersey all season long.

  3. Casual Observer Says:

Like that story about brainstorming on how to stop their QB. Great idea.

  4. Buc4evr Says:

That made my day ! When you’re the SB champ every day is Christmas 🙂

  5. m0j0 Says:

I pulled out the SB 37 Bucs DVD and left it sitting out the whole season and have to wear specific shirt and socks for each game. It worked though so will try again next year!

  6. John Sinclear Says:

He also said he’s gonna put his champagne bottle and his victory cigar under that tree, and leave it up. Joe should send him a trinket to hang on it.

  7. SKBucsfan Says:

It’s only superstitious if it doesn’t work.

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It can’t be Christmas yet for a Buc fan…..because we haven’t talked about the draft yet..

    Oh…..it can’t be Thanksgiving either…..or Halloween…..no draft talk.

  9. Show Me the TDs Says:

I wore my old Bucs hoodie and Bucs socks for every playoff game…and sat in the same chair. I also kissed my wife before every critical 3rd down or when we needed a stop! Lol. I feel like a loon, but hey, it worked!

    There you go!

I got a thing about no Bucs apparel being left on the floor during game week. Like a hat or a t-shirt. If I find out I just threw my shirt on the floor and left it there I freak out thinking the Bucs are going to to lose.

I was very careful with all this during the playoffs.

I believe that was important, talking amongst themselves about Mahomes, Hill, Kelce and all the other little details that went into the Bowles masterpiece.

  13. KYBUCFAN Says:

Our last lost was to KC the day before my birthday and my girlfriend told me that day she ordered me some Bucs socks for my birthday but i couldn’t have them UNTIL my actually birthday… Once i finally received them i wore them the following week and we won, so i kept wearing them and we kept winning!! I told her then if we were to beat the Saints we were winning the SB all because of my new lucky socks!!!

SMB got hammered most of the year by fans….glad he fought thru and cashed in on his opportunities when the ball came his way….

    GO BUCS

  15. Brandon Says:

Said it last year and said it going into this year, best young trio of CBs in the league… revise that…. best trio of CBs in the league. Best trio of safeties in the league too. Best sextet of DBs in the league. The Gravediggers are not even close to entering their prime.

  16. David Says:

    Awesome

  17. Bucs fan in Charlotte Says:

Literally had my Christmas tree up since KC loss. 8-0 since. The Tree works.

  18. orlbucfan Says:

Gravediggers….me thinks the 1979 and 2002 secondary posses would have liked that one.

The high has been in the teens since the start of February up here in WI. Seeing the parade reeeeally makes me wish I was down in Tampa rn. Speaking of superstitions. I got a Mike Evans jersey for Xmas (admittedly I got it early) wore it since the Chiefs game and we are 8-1 with a Superbowl me wearing it.

  20. Rod Munch Says:

    It was actually 84 today.

  21. DaBux Says:

I would leave the tree up until I retired if it meant trips to the Super Bowl every year.

  22. ChrisM Says:

For me it was Bucs full size helmet on kitchen table. Super Bowl XXXVII Champions Wheaties box. Super Bowl XXXVII hat next to TV . Westshore Wings since Washington game. Going to stay the same when Week #1 starts.GOING FOR 2 BABY!!!! So happy for our players that had to deal with the horrible years. Congratulations BUCCANEERS!!!!!
