“It Has To Have An Impact”

February 4th, 2021

Talking trenches.

Interesting chatter Joe heard last night on SiriusXM NFL Radio about the Bucs’ pass rush and the Chiefs offensive line.

As you likely know, the Chiefs may be down two starting tackles in Super Bowl LV. Currently, it seems the Chiefs will move backup right tackle Mike Remmers to left tackle, move right guard Andrew Wylie to right tackle and plug the hole at right guard with veteran Stefan Wisniewski.

Last night, former long-time Belicheats offensive line coach/wizard Dante Scarnecchia was a guest on “Late Hits” co-hosted by Bill Polian and Bill Lekas.

Scarnecchia was asked about the Chiefs’ patchwork line. They’re in a bad place, Scarnecchia said. He didn’t like basically starting three players in new positions and hoping that line is solid in a matter of days for the Super Bowl.

“It has to have an impact,” Scarnecchia said, and not a good one.

Scarnecchia also added something that got Joe’s attention. Apparently, in league circles, Scarnecchia said the word is that Bucs outside linebacker Jason Pierre-Paul is not close to 100 percent of late and he’s been playing with an injury.

He’s only had one game with a sack (two sacks) in the past six games and that was in the NFC Championship game.

Normally, Scarnecchia said, JPP would own Remmers. Playing with an injury, Scarnecchia believes that could be a toss-up as to who would gain an advantage.

Though Scarnecchia never said this, but Joe’s reading and listening to various reports about the game, it seems the narrative is without Shaq Barrett being Super Bowl MVP, the Bucs may be in trouble.

We know JPP has an injury. It’s a knee injury. We do not know the extent of it, but surely this extra week off will help his body out to some degree, which has to be of some help. Someone with media credentials should probably ask JPP about it eh?

  2. Mitch Says:

JPP has a chronic knee issue. Although, if he plays like he did in the nfc championship he will own Remmers. I don’t think he will hold anything back to get that ring.

  3. gp Says:

Mount Vea, IMO is the key. He and Suh will use up four of KC’s lineman leaving JPP and Shaq singled. This does not bode well for Mahomie and I think he will be under almost constant pressure. This alone will take the long ball away from him and that’s a big plus for us and our secondary!

  4. I CARE NOW Says:

    My hope,
    D. White/LVD co-MVP
    or ME for MVP.

However if I was a betting man. Tom Freaking Brady will add one more feather to his hat just because he is Tom Freaking Brady and that’s what Unicorns do.

If the Chiefs find a way to upset us (because we are Bucs fans not because we are favored) you know its gonna go to the Kid-goat.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

My bet would be that JPP does just fine……and you can add Shaq, Vita & Suh to that……and don’t sneeze on Gholston…..maybe he will be the one not covered.

  6. Robert Says:

I never got how players can play with a knee injury. Having had ACL (2) and MCL surgeries…. I just don’t see how they do it. Short of taping the heck out of and going for broke….but when it buckles…it’s not like you get any warning. It just says I quit.

My 1st full ACL tear I had many people over and everyone had there 4 wheelers and ready to ride.-1st time in years, so I wasn’t just not gonna ride! I tore mine early morning but said to heck with it and wrapped the heck out of it not knowing how bad it was…but it buckled 3 times and I had to tap out for the day.

Is it more like arthritis or something where it’s just some pain?

  7. adam from ny Says:

knock mahomes around like we’re the raiders and steelers of the 1970’s…

let him know, not in our house…

  8. Cobraboy Says:

“Chronic knee” does not seem like any sort of ligament tear, possibly cartilage or even some bone-on-bone arthritis.

Like Robert says, you really can’t play with real ligament damage no matter how tough you are. It’s physics: if joints are loose, beyond the pain, you can’t make quick cuts or power moves.

JPP says he’s going balls-to-the-wall in the SB. I suspect his adrenalin > pain even without pain injections.

    There is no tomorrow.

  9. OBF Says:

Lol… the Bucs will know how and when to use JPP .. he probably has a chronic knee and the 2 weeks really won’t make much difference. That said the guy has the heart of a Champion and will have a great game on Sunday! The front 7 is excellent and the interior has rotational depth, they need to be patient and play their assignment each snap and not shot their wad chasing Mahomes looking for highlights… 4th quarter is when the Lions make their kill !

  10. ClodHopper Says:

It’s a good thing Shaq is in a perfect position to have an MVP standard performance. He just needs to take advantage of it.

  11. Jerry Jones Says:

The speculation is out of control. I get it’s SB week, but come on.

Do we really believe that JPP isn’t going to show up? These guys aren’t in the know one bit and never have been. We all know JPP has been playing injured since he got here, nothing has changed. So freaking stupid.

  12. bucnole Says:

Yea makes a huge difference in the middle
I want at least 4 sacks!!!

  13. SlyPirate Says:

A rested Gholston and Suh against third string OG.
A rested JPP and Shaq against OG.
    Vea against well … anyone.

    OMG!

Patrick will be on the run.

  14. Hodad Says:

JPP will be ready…I have no doubt. Forget the back end, our front seven need to dominate for the win. If I could advise our defenders it would be this. Don’t hesitate, don’t fall for the Mahommes head fakes, and freeze when Hill has the ball, shoot your gun! Don’t leave your feet trying to bat the ball down, run right for Mahommes gut! I hate watching D lineman jump on the pump fake only to see Mahommes run for a first down. The mission should be hit him when you can, if he gets the pass away so be it. At least he’ll be on the ground.

  15. Fernando Diaz Says:

Post Scarnecchia”s comments on JPP’s locker.
Will see who will own who.

  16. Bucamania Says:

Shaq turned a corner last week vs GB. His burst was back. Bucs need Shaq to be Shaq to win,
