“He Is The B.A. Version Of A Defensive Coordinator”

February 1st, 2021

So who has a better coaching staff, the Chiefs or our beloved Tampa Bay Buccaneers?

For Kansas City, offensive wizard Andy Reid has a spot waiting for him in the Hall of Fame, offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy has accomplished more than Byron Leftwich, and defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo has two Super Bowl rings — with two different teams — in his current role.

Yes, the Bucs are facing a heavyweight veteran coaching staff in the Super Bowl.

The guy charged with stopping Tom Brady did it once before in a Super Bowl, and one of Brady’s fellow Bucs QBs talked about what to expect from Spagnuolo last week on 98.7 FM in Arizona.

Joe’s referring to Bucs fourth-string QB Drew Stanton, the 36-year-old veteran.

“I think anybody that knows [Steve] Spagnuolo knows how much he wants to come after you. He is the B.A. version of a defensive coordinator,” Stanton said, referring to Bruce Arians.

“He’s going to run his stuff, he’s going to dial stuff up, he’s going to be confident about it. And hhe does a good thing of changing coverages, pre- and post-snap. He’s obviously got a playmaker in the back end in Tyrann Mathieu, a special talent that is so good at diagnosing things and not looking back — reacting, just a bullet shot out of a gun, at times. So you have be aware of that and see that, on top of the guys they have up front.”

Joe’s guessing Stanton was parroting the chatter from quarterback meetings at One Buc Palace. Stanton went on to say that with so much film on the Chiefs and extra time, he’s putting his money on Leftwich, Brady and Arians finding the successful matchups for whatever is thrown at the Bucs.

With all the talk about stopping Patrick Mahomes, Joe is more focused on the Bucs offense playing its most efficient and balanced game of the season. The Chiefs defense really should be no match for the Bucs’ historic offensive talent.

Which coaching staff is better is not really a relevant question. It is the time of question to kill time on the airways over the next week. There are too many factors to consider, such as the GM, the players, owners, facilities, and even the broader climate. We know Andy Reid has been to this dance as HC before, and has the Chiefs deep in three years in a row. His staff seems more experienced. But the bottom line is I think the Bucs are overall the better team for this particular game given all the factors. The three most important I think are roster (Brady, JPP, White, David, Evans, Brady, and Brady); the Bucs just have to be “hungrier,” and playing the game in your own home city has the stakes even higher…can’t let someone come into your house, your town, for the biggest show ever, and beat you.

The Chiefs don’t have a scrub defense, they averaged about 22 pts per game I believe and they held us to 24. Look at what they did to the Browns and Bills so don’t expect an easy lunch. Their defense is opportunistic like ours and can tighten up when holding on to a lead. B.A., TB 1&2 AND B.L. better have a really good game plan because they’re going to be even better than the last time we played them!

This game will be decided by the defenses, NOT the offense. BOTH offenses are prolific. Who will stop who? Who’s going to turn the ball over?

We have to be clean and efficient on offense. Our defense has to show up angry and HUNGRY!
    I like our chances.
    Go Bucs!

I actually think the key to our game will be our defense…….our front 7 should stop the run and pressure Mahomes……our secondary has got to be very confident from what they’ve accomplished…..hopefully Winfield & Whitehead are healthy..
It’s not good enough that the want to play……they need to be near the top of their games. If not, I trust healthy backups more

with their two starting tackles out, and their left tackle never playing at that spot i give the edge to our defense

Add Vita to the mix. Wasn’t there last time.

I anticipate getting consistent pressure on homie with Shaq, JPP, Suh, and Vea. With White and David spying him to prevent a scramble, whenever he holds it a little longer they can race in to pressure/disrupt the long ball and perhaps get one of those elusive sacks. Not easy to contain a QB like homie but it can be done and our front seven are uniquely qualified talent wise to do so.
The secondary has to do their part as well. My suggestion is a hybrid man/zone with the DB’s tight on the line to disrupt timing routes and our safeties in zone to cover the top when receivers get past. If we can cover well enough that no one runs free and open, our front seven will have the time to pressure homie into some bad throws and we may get multiple turn overs.
    Contain, control, cover, and pressure.
I have little concern that our offense will be able to outplay their defense but to help our defense out, a strong running game and TOP will help keep their offense on the sidelines.
Bucs win, hopefully by a multi-score margin (to protect my nerves)
The NFL couldn’t have wished for a better match-up IMO.

The Bucs offense is going to put up a lot of points. They are just too talented to be denied. The Bucs D, we will have to wait and see. They have been getting it done so let’s hope they can get rolling now with Vea and Winfield back on the field.
