A Powerful Bryon Leftwich Endorsement

February 20th, 2021

Bucs offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich

It smells more and more like Bucco Bruce Arians would choose Byron Leftwich to be his Tampa Bay successor if given the opportunity.

Consider what Arians’ mentor and offensive advisor Tom Moore said on national radio. The 82-year-old Moore, now a proud owner of four Super Bowl rings, is the sage behind the scenes at One Buc Palace.

Moore has no doubt Leftwich is ready to be not just a head coach, but a great head coach.

“I’ll say this to you. I’ve been around a long time. Byron is absolutely fantastic,” Moore said. “He is a great presenter of game plans. He has a great rapport with people. He had a great rapport with Tom [Brady]. And in my personal opinion, Bruce has done a fantastic job of training Bryon to be a head coach. He trained him to be a coordinator, and Bruce lets him go.

“Now Bruce gave up playcalling, which was very, very dear to Bruce and he loved it. But he has so much faith and so much trust in Byron that he gave it up to him and let him do it. And he’s done a great job. And as I’ve told people, he just had a four week interview with the four playoff games. It is what it is; if you don’t like that, I don’t know what you like.”

“[Leftwich is] really good. I sit in on most all these meetings, not to check on him or anything like that. I learn stuff, too.”

Moore went on to compare Leftwich to Tom Brady and Peyton Manning in his burning desire to be a superior head coach, always eager to learn and grow.

“I’m surprised he didn’t get interviewed this year,” Moore said, adding he is confident Leftwich will be a truly great head coach.

Joe wonders if any owners or general managers took a few minutes to call Moore regarding Leftwich while they were considering coaching candidates.

Both Leftwich and Bowles achieved the highest honor they could at their respective positions and it’s absurd that they didn’t get more feelers for a head coaching position. I’d be happy with either one of them as our head coach when Bruce retires.

  2. adam from ny Says:

byron is looking quite stellar these days…

and with the ringing endorsements from BA…

    all is good in byronville…

    #HesChillin’ #EveryoneLovesByron

  3. Bird Says:

Off topic but had to put on here as i just read article about and could not believe it

Did you see kellen winslow jr agreed to his 14 year prison sentence (to avoid 18-20 years) so pled guilty to raping that 60 ish year old homeless woman. And apparently the unconscious teenager i think it may have been his last year at miami ( st of lim?).

That dude is a nut job
His wife is a smoke shop too
    One creepy dude

  4. adam from ny Says:

maybe we’ll go from BA to BL in a couple years…

    making for a smooth transition

  5. Youngbucs Says:

🤡s where saying Byron sucked in 2019 because of someone’s decisions on the field. They better check they sheets.

  6. Bird Says:

Id be cool with bowles or leftwich to take place of arians

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The one problem for BL is his pressers………He says absolutely nothing…..”we just want to put our players in a position to make plays”…….”we just want to focus om winning football games”

Can you imagine translating that to HC pressers?

  8. Cobraboy Says:

As a selfish fan that only cares about Buc wins, I am glad he and Bowles were overlooked this year.

If the team can find a way to keep the band together and make another great run, both will certainly be gone for 2022.

The question is: Who is Arians grooming to take over for Bowles & Leftwich?

  9. Cobraboy Says:

    @tbbf: Leftwich sounds like Belichick…;)

  10. webster Says:

I get it other coaches can say absolutely nothing in their press conferences but the black coach is penalized for doing the same thing? You cant make this up. Oh and to the fools who keep trying to put BL down, that makes every coach and player who raves about BL and his game plans and play calling yet you bumkins who have ZERO connection to the lockeroom spew the BS he does nothing. Gtfooh.

    @youngbuc

Idiots did not say BL sucked due to jameis turnovers because they still had a#2 offense. Stop trying to blame jameis for everything jesus christ. These same idiots THIS YEAR with Brady was blaming BL and crying about play calling eventhough it was a top 5 offense. Did you miss that? Where have you been?

  11. Karma Says:

The league did the Bucs a favor by not poaching our OC/DC….now let’s make them pay.

BL got the best out Jaemis. Everyone knows Jameis being himself is the reason Brady is here.

Brady is playing BL’s system and just wait till 2021 starts and see how they gel.

    Go Bucs!

  12. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

Leftwich may be around here for a very long time ?
The Rap on him, when he played was, he had a slow release because of his long wind up, and he could not read defenses very well.
It may take another year or so here to change that perception, and that’s good for us, like Cobraboy says!

  13. Phil Collins Says:

Byron & Todd I thought both would be HC. this year.
Boy there are some really stupid owners. After what those to just did for TB. Idiots, there Right there & they don’t get offered a job.
Shame on you owners, always looking for talent. Then when you see it, you pass it by. Like the Browns did for 2 decades. They couldn’t get it right. Either one of these gentlemen could have saved the Browns ALOT of picks.

  14. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

    Tampabaybucfan Says:
“…Can you imagine translating that to HC pressers?”

    Yeah, just like Belicheat’s

  15. rrsrq Says:

With another successful year, I can see BL becoming the HC and Bowles the highest paid DC if they choose to

  16. Lakelandsteve Says:

I have no doubt that Leftwich or Bowles would and should make excellent head coaches. However as Bowles can attest and Belichek can attest, if you don’t have the horses you can’t win the race. Bowles didn’t have the players in New York that are here. Belichek doesn’t have Brady anymore and now he doesn’t have enough great players to win a Super Bowl. Jason Licht has done a hell of a job through the draft and last year (with Brady’s help) through free agency. You can be the greatest head coach or offensive or defensive coordinators in the world but if you don’t have great talent you aren’t going to win. I am sure that if we have another great year next year that both Bowles and Leftwich get interviews and possibly one or both get hired to be head coaches.

  17. Youngbucs Says:

Webster yes they did and they still mad posting dumb comments here. They where mad at the head coach defensive coach Byron special teams everybody. But jameis was not part of of problem in their eyes I will continue to point out the obvious so long as they continue to hate on the teams success!!!!!!

  18. SOEbuc Says:

I dunno. I dunno if I want BL my HC without a star studded roster. I’m wondering when and how many plays and decisions to make were made by Brady after the bye. Let’s hope whenever Tom stops being QB he’ll jump right into the HC position:)

  19. Patrick Says:

I’d be ok with Byron for the sake of continuity and keeping the same system in place.

  20. Will Says:

I believe the reason BL didn’t get any interviews is because to many people believe he’s not the one calling the plays even though BA continues to tell everyone that in fact BL is calling the plays and putting together the offensive game plan. Then you bring in Brady and people definitely aren’t believing it. Heck I hear people all the time on ESPN talking about how BA is doing a great job with meshing his system with what Brady does well. No mention of BL at all even when there’s audio of Brady telling BL that he was on fire with his play calling during a game and then there was another time where you could read Brady’s lips in a different game where he yelled that was a stupid f-ing call. It’s taking some learning and time but BL is doing a great job with the play calling and after the bye week he was on fire even though in the GB game I was going crazy when we kept taking shots that ended up in interceptions when I felt like the game was ours to lose.

  21. DoooshLaRue Says:

    It’s BL.
Brady had nothing to do with it.

Take Brady away and see what happens.

I’d gladly take Bowles as HC.

    #seewebsterimnotaracist

  22. Ben green Says:

It’s all Brady. Go look at the team he left. He carried that dead ass team to the playoffs and nearly as a 2 seed (but for the miracle in Miami) I’m sure BL is a fine man but, I’ll only credit hi

  23. Ben green Says:

m with getting out of the way. Keep the goat upright!!! That’s the only job. Draft lineman for injury sake. the times brady didn’t make it to the Superbowl were largely protection issues. You were blessed with relative health on the line, that won’t happen next year,I guarantee. I don’t care about receivers, or defense. As long as you protect him you’ll win big.

  24. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Ben green,

Exactly. I said the same earlier but Joe deleted it.

  25. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs the only person you give credit to is Brady . Just because some of us don’t hate Jamies and wish the best for him you get all mad . But I find it real funny because I’ve seen people on this site wish the best for Fitzpatrick and you are ok with that . And ain’t nothing worng if people hope for the best for anyone . But your hate for Jamies is real lol lol lol 😄😁😆😆. Your girl must like Jamies or something lol lol lol 😁😆😅 if you got a woman !!!

  26. Oneilbucs Says:

Ben Green the Patriots had the number 1 defense last year the problem was Sony Mitchell got hurt . Sony Mitchell was the one who led them threw the playoffs and to the superbowl . That’s why they lost last year in the first round because he didn’t have a running game . But yall don’t look at the hold team . So that’s why you think it’s all Brady . Ain’t know one player winning the superbowl it takes a team . Our defense was the main reason why we won this year .

  27. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilbucs stfu and stop lying on my seriously you make stuff up constantly. You have no real substance to any of your comments. We all know it’s a team game all team sports are this ain’t golf. Get your stupid narratives and made comments out of here. I challenge you to go in the archives and find any commentary from any let only me who’s has said such nonsense. You can’t because you’re a liar. Where not as simple minded as you to try to make a point you fabricate and exaggerate all the time!!!!!!

  28. Youngbucs Says:

    Name

  29. Robert Says:

Joe should write a column apologizing for being so critical of Leftwich. The number of times he tried to pin the failure of Josh Rosen on him is a joke.

  30. DoooshLaRue Says:

O’Neill……. stirring that tired old pot of racial stew.

Take a break and let webster help.
Big Slob would help if he could…..

Brady brought a winning mentality…… happens to be a white guy.
JayMiss brought an immature loser mentality…. happened to be a black guy.

It really is that black and white……. just not the way you choose to make it.

  31. Will Says:

No one is saying that Brady had nothing to do with it but some folks want to say it’s all Brady. It’s a team sport Brady can’t take over a game like a basketball player or like a pitcher. Off the top of my head I believe his 1st 2 Superbowls game down to a made field goal by Vinatieri. There was the Malcolm Butler int in the Seattle game. The miracle catch by Edelman to keep the drive alive against Atl and this year our defense kept GB out of the end zone when he had a case of the Winstons. It’s a team effort having Brady instills a confidence in others and they play harder but still he’s not out there doing it all by himself. If that was the case there wouldn’t have been a need for Gronk or all the others that were brought in.
And for the guy that said he doesn’t care about receivers or defense glad you’re not the GM.

  32. Oneilbucs Says:

Will You are a 100 percent right bro and I don’t know why the people on this site gets mad just because you give credit to the hold team . They get mad if you say the defense is good and we have a running game and if you don’t say that’s because of Brady to then that mean you hate Brady . Lol lol 😁😁😆

  33. Will Says:

    Oneilbucs
It’s crazy some of the things people actually think are true and don’t want to give credit where it’s due. This was the most complete team I’ve ever seen put together and the fact that they came together like they did during this pandemic is a testament to the ENTIRE TEAM AND COACHING STAFF.

  34. Youngbucs Says:

Awwwww how cute oneil got a butt buddy hi will. Hey will don’t listen to oneilbucs he change narratives like socks. Last year it was everyone else fault but Winston. You can’t have it both ways stop the double standards. I have a fact for both of you. Tom Brady was a major reason the Bucs where successful this season who cares if you choose not to acknowledge it. I have another fact Jameis Winston was a major reason why the Bucs where unsuccessful in 2019 you can choose to not acknowledge it but it’s fact. Of course your next comments will be to poke holes in what I said. Like talking about the rookie kicker or the defense sure they had moments. But the QB the guy who touches the ball most was historically bad and inconsistent you can not deny or sugarcoat it. His bad play had an affect on play calling and an affect on the defense. I’ll keep it real simple ask yourselves this and be honest individually forget wins and losses forget other players forget coaches for a second. Now individually for what the can control which QB plays winning football??????????

  35. Youngbucs Says:

This team could’ve made a run last year with better QB play. And Don’t give me that kicker or defense excuses. Our defense was 5th in takeaways and scored 7tds they where also 7th in sacks. And the had the worst starting field position in the nfl guess why? 142 points where scored off winston turnovers y’all can sugar coat all y’all want that’s why he not here.

  36. Oneilbucs Says:

Will Amen to that bro !!!

  37. Joe Says:

And Don’t give me that kicker or defense excuses.

Gee, “kicker” was such an “excuse” the team dumped the guy and got a better one. 🤔

  38. Oneilbucs Says:

Youngbucs Football will always be a team sport regardless how you feel . Did Jamies play perfect no and I have never said he did. But I will say this that the bucs didn’t do a good Job in developing him are any other quarterback that they draft . Youngbucs you just a hater and you mad because some of us don’t hate Jamies like you do . And I’m not going to deny that the defense has lost a lot of games when we needed just one stop . And our kicker lost games as well so all of that plays apart of teams losing . Not in order but what about the Bills, Gaints , Falcons, Seahawks, Lions, Packers in over time the offense never saw the field . Are how about the Raiders game . Both sides of the ball has played apart in the Bucs losing over the past 4 years.

  39. Oneilbucs Says:

How about not having a running game to close out games . Your blind hate for Jamies has made you stupid . So as for me I will always root for the Bucs regardless who the quarterback is . But I will never make the quarterback position bigger than the team uncle Tom!!!

  40. Oneilbucs Says:

Dooshlayn Lol lol lol 😁😆😅🤣 you are a joke lol lol 😁😆😅 !!! Call me racist all you want I will always speak the truth rather people like you are that cookie like are not !!

  41. Youngbucs Says:

Oneilbucs many QBs don’t pan out no matter what team draft them knock it off you saw dirk on hard knocks telling Winston straight to his face the turnovers are killers they tried to get him better wasn’t meant to be not for this team at least.

  42. Youngbucs Says:

And joe I know the kicker is gone he deserves to go just like winston did. If you ain’t getting it done goodbye. I’ll bet this is the joe who said how do you replace 5000yds 😂well they just showed you how.

  43. Oneilbucs Says:

I love every bucs fan on this site including youngbucs . I love making him mad 😁😆😅🤣 lol lol lol !!! And Dooshlayn Brady will be gone soon so when he leaves I will still be a bucs fan just like when Jamies left . And when the next quarterback comes in I will support him the same way I did Jamies, Johnson, King , Freeman, Garcia, and Brady . But I will never make one guy bigger than the team . The new young quarterback if they don’t give him a running game and the defense doesn’t play well I will treat him the same way treated Jamies . Go bucs !!

  44. Will Says:

Smh. Youngbucs why exactly are we talking about Winston he doesn’t play for the team I root for. Was I a Jameis fan yes because he played for the team I rooted for. Did he have issues with turnovers heck yes. Did he have a running game so that when he struggled we could take the ball out of his hands heck no. I was hoping he turned things around but he didn’t so the team I root for got rid of him and replaced him with Brady. I was happy we got Brady and now I root for him because he plays for the team that I root for. Maybe you can see a theme in what I’m saying. I root for the guys on the team I
root for The Buccaneers. Do we make this run with Jameis at QB I’ll admit that I doubt we do. But if we’d kept him I would’ve rooted for him every game just like I do with everyone on the team. I call them out when they screw up and praise them when they deserve it. I’ve been one of the biggest people saying get rid of D Smith I’m happy to say I’m glad I was wrong about him. Heck I love Mike Evans but I hate that he runs out of bounds so easily after a big catch. I loved the intensity he had when he fought to get in the end zone against the Rams I want to see more of that from him.

  45. cmurda Says:

Oneil. You’re wrong on this one man. Maybe there’s a history of something I don’t know about but Brady and Brady alone has a lot. A real lot. A whole lot to do with why this team hoisted the Lombardi. There are a combination of a lot of factors including, and not limited to, the fact that the kicker position had been dreadful and the defense had been average at best. There’s no question that this is a better team than what Jameis had but a lot of that is because of Jameis being reckless and Tom being a legend. He’s a legend. He’s not good. He’s not just great. He’s a legend. You don’t have to like it. Heck, you don’t even need to acknowledge it, but you do need to hear it. Because it’s fact!

  46. Oneilbucs Says:

Cmurda I have never said Brady wasn’t good and I have never said that Jamies was a perfect quarterback . But I will say this they did changed the playbook for Brady wich they should . And my hold thing about Jamies is this the bucs did a bad job in trying to develop him . But for me this ain’t got nothing to do with Jamies . It’s one thing about it Brady been in the NFL for 20 years plus he played in the same system all 20 years. But at some point when are we going to look at the organization for not being able to develop a quarterback in the history of this franchise? It can’t be every quarterback they draft . But I will never sit here and make one guy the only reason why we won .

  47. Ramon S Gutierrez Jr Says:

Am I the only one who thinks the Saints got Winston was only to help beat the Bucs? Winston knew the receivers and tight ends tendencies. That’s why they were able to stop the Bucs in the first 2 games and BL and Brady worked together to gameplan for playoffs. I wasn’t too happy with BL in first half of season but after reading various articles I now realize that BL works on getting better and I believe he started listening more to Brady to see what he’s comfortable with. The Bucs run after week 12 was BL’s communication with the starting QB. The defense was great all year! There were a few slip ups of course but overall they were great. Hope we can keep the defense together for another year.

  48. Robin bell Says:

Brady is the man as a hole he brought this team together he does have that he brings the best of of his teammates on both sides of the ball can’t wait till next season GO BUCS not to mention what is done for the Tampa Bay community he is the man I hate to say it Winston is not he wasn’t in the beginning he wasn’t at the end and he’s not now did he have his moments yes he did but let’s face it this is pro football not college and he cannot think under pressure that’s just the way it is I’m glad he’s gone

  49. Robert M Says:

Damn , you are some sad people. You just won the biggest game in the world. And all of you are right. It’s is a team sport and Tom Brady will the 1st one to say so. But anyone that believes that the Bucs would have been hooting the Lombardi without Tom Brady is delusional. He brought that team together. Stop all your bitchin and enjoy the moment and off-season.

Better check yo calendar sheet yo…….

JayMiss was released LESS than a year ago.

You’re about as accurate as he is!

  52. DoooshLaRue Says:

The Super Bowl was exactly 2 weeks ago too.

    That’s a couple, not a few.

I won’t ask you for any “personal measurements” cause I’m pretty sure you’d stretch those too.

Excuse me doosh, 2 seasons ago.

And if you want to get technical, he wasn’t released. He just wasn’t resigned.

But go about being unhappy and talking about a third string back up. I’ll enjoy the Bucs super bowl season
