Tom Brady Nearly Canceled Jeff Garcia

January 27th, 2021

“Jeff, no! I want a divorce!”

Former WWE diva Carmella DeCesare may have divorced her ex-Bucs quarterback husband over this.

Jeff Garcia, who played his guts out for the Bucs in the final two years of the Chucky Era (two winning seasons and a playoff berth) ,was damn near left in the ash heap of Bucs history by park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Tom Brady.

Garcia, who wore No. 7, nearly was usurped by Brady when the Bucs had a handshake deal with Mr. Six Rings to come to Tampa Bay.

In the Peter King Podcast, Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht explained how upon verbally agreeing to terms with Brady, the jersey number of the new Bucs quarterback came up.

Brady initially wanted Garcia’s number. Yes, it’s true.

And if that happened, Garcia would have been lost to Bucs history, as Brady would have been known as No. 7 forever and perhaps may have had the No. 7 retired the way things are going for Brady and the Bucs.

Quick, who wore No. 55 before Derrick Brooks or No. 99 before Warren Sapp? Joe doesn’t know, but you see where Joe is going with this?

If Brady had No. 7, he would have effectively canceled out just about any memory of Garcia, no matter how gorgeous his wife is.

You can listen to Licht tell the tale in the video below.

  4. Leighroy Says:

Uh hold up. Screw Jeff Garcia, the most famous #7 is and will always be Martin Gramatica! True community impact guy too.

  5. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

So if he’s going for one next year, you know if he wins this year will he change it to 8?🤪 What will really be great he’s able to lead us to the playoffs 3 straight years before he retires because you know they’re going to extend him!

  6. Bruce Blahak Says:

Godwin deserves a medal and a contract to remain a Buc for the forseeable future…his value is immense. guts, blocking, etc.

  7. thisisouryear!! Says:

Wasn’t Williams #12? I’m surprised his number survived.

  8. SKBucsFan Says:

Maybe TB12 will want to wear #8 next year. After that he would just be showing off.

  9. Love and Warrick Dunn Says:

As much as I love Godwin, CAN they keep him long-term? Where does Godwin’s contract $$ come from??

From Brate maybe? In no way am I saying I want him to leave, just wondering how all these guys can get paid and still have some cap flexibility.

  10. bojim Says:

I liked Garcia. He was happy to put the offense on his shoulders. All you had to do was watch him play to see that.

    >>> Screw Jeff Garcia, the most famous #7 is and will always be Martin Gramatica! <<<

Only douchebags, chicks and foreign soccer dorks who want to try to fit in as an American would ever wear a jersey of a kicker and that includes Adam Vinatieri.

  12. David Says:

As far as quarterback numbers, other than 13, Brady can have any damn number he wants. LOL.

As for Jeff Garcia… My God I could not stand him as a quarterback. He was the complete opposite of Brady. He would look at his first read and if it was not open he would immediately panic and start running around

  13. SC Bucs Fan Says:

How did this not turn into a thread on Carmella DeCesare

  14. Leighroy Says:

Who exactly is talking about “wearing a jersey” other than you Jimmy? Indisputable point but highly irrelevant rant.

  15. MDFree Says:

Jeff Garcia will forever hold a special place in my heart. He’s who made me a Buc fan back in 07. Haven’t looked back since, and it feels great to finally be playing some winning football!

  16. Winny Testaverde Says:

Might just be me but #12 will always belong to Trent Dilfer. LOL…kidding of course.

  17. Listnfrmafar Says:

I only remember Garcia on the 49ers. But now I will remember his wife forever. Kay Adam’s who???

  18. theodore Says:

Joe – Thank you for going the extra length and connecting this story to Garcia, giving you the excuse to post a pic of his wife. Top tier journalism.

  19. Mar Says:

Had no idea that somebody wore Craig Erickson’s number.
