Proof Scotty Miller On The Rise

January 28th, 2021

Vomiter.

Now Joe has no clue who would win a race between Scotty Miller and Cheetah Hill. It ought to be an offseason pay-per-view event of an NFL Network primetime show.

(Miller said yesterday on the Dull Patrick show he is faster than Cheetah.)

One thing is certain, per Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, Miller is a receiver on the rise and it is all on tape for anyone to see.

Appearing on the Peter King Podcast, the subject of Miller came up. King noted how impressed he was with Miller’s hustle in training camp and how he yakked on the sidelines in the middle of practice.

Licht told King that someone else in the Bucs organization is impressed with Miller, too.

Peter King: I was so impressed when I visited your camp in August with a kid from Bowling Green named Scotty Miller. A wide receiver who that day — it was the first day you guys had offense vs. defense in training camp. It was a big day and everybody was playing hard. Scotty Miller is diving and jumping — it’s like the biggest day of his life. And at one point he comes back to the sideline and he just vomits all over the ground.

Jason Licht: (Laughs.)

King: And I said to myself, “This is a kid who will do anything to play in the NFL and particularly play with Tom Brady.” Am I right?

Licht: You hit the nail on the head. He’s a hungry player and he’s a great teammate. And Tom wouldn’t be throwing him the balls he has this year if he didn’t have confidence in him.

Now that is a helluva point. Brady, when he was with the Belicheats, was known for shutting out receivers if they proved unreliable. Brady just froze their arses out. Can’t catch? Can’t run a decent route? Not hustling? No balls for you!

And Joe remembers vividly back in training camp how often Brady targeted the lesser receivers on the roster. Cam Brate (though he’s good, he’s not the No. 1 tight end), Justin Watson and Miller.

(Notice Watson has been in the witness protection program outside of special teams?)

If the best quarterback in the NFC didn’t think Miller could produce and get the job done, he wouldn’t throw him the ball like he has.

  1. Erik Hesson - Fine Artist - City of St Pete Says:

The Cheetah recorded a top speed of 24mph a couple seasons ago, which is faster than Scottie’s 22mph…. And Tyreek looks faster on the field of play to the naked eye, but who cares.. Go Bucs

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Scotty is fantastic……his only downside is that he goes down very easily……the slightest touch-tackle brings him down…

But…because of his speed he can breakaway….

The thought of having a 5th round pick like Tyler Johnson & a 6th rounder in Scotty Miller wrapped up on rookie contracts is exciting.

  3. HeyItsAdam Says:

Was Watson the guy who Brady clanked the ball off his helmet earlier in the year?

  4. Robert Says:

One of, if not THE, most under rated players on our teams. How many times has this guy put a dagger in the hearts of the opponents? Game changing plays even if it’s only once or twice every few games. How many other players can say they turned the tide of the game every few games.

Can he do an end around or play him on WR screens?

  5. Joe Says:

his only downside is that he goes down very easily……the slightest touch-tackle brings him down…

Not surprising. The dude is tiny.

  6. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

Scooter has proven he belongs in the NFL more so than Watson or Mickelson and if he packed on 15 more lbs could handle playing more or even kick returner. Right now he’s simply too light in the britches to handle too many hard hits across the middle.

  7. Infomeplease Says:

Prediction:. Scotty will make a game changing play in the e Super Bowl!!!!!!! GI BUCS!!!!

  8. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Joe Says, “Not surprising. The dude is tiny.”

He grew 2 inches over the past year. Give him time, he’ll soon be 6 feet tall.

  9. Mort Says:

Brady isn’t the best QB in the NFC. That’s still Rodgers. It’s a team sport. Our TEAM was better than theirs. Our QB was not.

  10. Cobraboy Says:

Hill is tiny, too, and a lot shiftier than Miller.

Hill has more than just straight-line speed.

To even be in a “who’s better” conversation with Hill is a monumental feat.

  11. Anonymous Says:

Once Scotty develops the ability to make a defender miss he won’t have to just run by them. He’s listed at 174lbs and DeSean Jackson is listed at 175lbs. Scotty will be fine he just needs to develop a little shake and bake to his game as they call it and he’ll really be deadly. Don’t get me wrong I’ll take and I love what he’s doing right now BUT lets not act like right now in his career he’s in the same category on the field as Hill.
    GO BUCS!

  12. Robert Says:

he’s the same size as D Jax,

and same height as Welker and S Smith……..add 10 lbs of muscle and he could be a beast provided he doesn’t lose any speed.

10 more pounds, some dance lessons and stretch techniques from Barber and he could step up to the slot.

  13. Steven007 Says:

Robert, I agree completely and commented pretty much the same yesterday on another post. If he’s not incentivized to gain some muscle and learn how to move just a bit better, I’m not sure what other motivation he needs.

  14. HomerSimpsonRocks Says:

HeyItsAdam Says: it wasn’t Miller. I forget the guys name. Speed guy who had lousy hands. They had him at KR/PR a bit too I think. He’s either gone or on the practice squad.

  15. Joe Says:

When is the last time Desesn Jackson had a positive impact on a winning team? Everyone seems to wet their pants over DeSean Jackson. Hasn’t it been years since he’s done anything on a team that won a playoff game?

(But Joe bets he just dominates in *fantasy* football.)

  16. 813bucboi Says:

scotty has proven he shouldnt be slept on….lol…

    keep it up…stay focus!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  17. Joe in Michigan Says:

Cyril Grayson was the guy that had the ball bounce off his helmet.

  18. Anonymous Says:

Joe well speaking for myself I’m not speaking on the impact Djax has had on a team. I’m saying that he and Scotty are virtually the same size and to say that Scotty needs to gain size before he can go across the middle or return punts is ridiculous. Heck Djax even played when you could actually lay receivers out.

  19. B Says:

Scotty Miller is fast. Tyreek Hill is faster. Joe cashing paycheck on click-bait is fastest.

  20. Beeej Says:

Watson can be blamed for both of Brady’s pick 6’s early in the year

  21. BillyBucFan Says:

Cyril Grayson had the ball bounce off his helmet..
Justin Watson has Not been targeted since Brady threw his 2nd pick six on his out routes,, which were simply terrible.

Miller might be FASTER on a track, but not in pads, and DOES NOT make people miss like Hill.

Miller has to be beaming with confidence and should only get better.
In Hills 1st year he only had 500 something yards and 6 TDs.
Had 3 years with 7 or less TDs.

My point is it took some time and specific route concepts to see all he has to offer.

  22. JimbobBucsFan Says:

Scotty won’t be surprising people anymore.

Going into his third year in the NFL our sports science staff might have him bulk up a little more. He will be as prepared as any of the “little guys” in the league to handle the rigors of the game I am sure.

He already has the other needed attributes to be out there for years to come.

  23. sgrd0q Says:

Scotty biggest strength is running his routes correctly. Also, good speed and good hands.

  24. adam from ny Says:

    nah…

scottie doesn’t move like cheetah moves…

    #LoveScooterTho

  25. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Tim Brown is going to take the third WR spot from Scotty Miller. I doubt you see much of Miller except for a few play action plays.

  26. adam from ny Says:

    scottie is no slot guy…

    not today, not ever…

when he first came in the league i wondered if he’s gonna make it from a physicality stand point…

    and he did…

but still he’s no slot guy…

i’m surprised we haven’t tried to have scottie do a rare slant route and hit the burners tho…

    #ScottieCanPullAyeJoeJuriviciusLikeOnceAyeYear

  27. StatGuy Says:

Scotty isn’t even the fastest player on the team. Dean is faster

  28. Tater Salad Says:

    Miller is faster

  29. SOEbuc Says:

Trade while the iron is hot next year. I love Scotty but TJ is better as a #3 WR. Especially in the run game. He’s a Godwin in the making.

  30. WhatTheBuc Says:

Alabama, I’m pretty sure Tim Brown isn’t going to come out of retirement and take Miller’s place.

  31. DaBux Says:

    Great article Joe.

You made Julian Edelman cry however.

  32. Dan Williamson Says:

First,” Mort says”,you need to move back to Green Bay. A-aron had three series to score a td in a row and did not. He could have run it down to the 2 and had another chance at the end zone. He did not. He could have held up the NFC championship trophy. He did not. That sir was done by Thomas Edward Patrick Brady. The bucs QB.Is he yours? The muthaflippin’ GOAT.The greatest qb to ever lace them up. The winningest qb ever by far in regular season, playoffs and superbowls AND high and will be leading in most of the individual stats. So please.A-aron Rodgers? Heeheeee! He depressed right now. He is sitting home right now while Tom Brady again goes to his 10th superbowl in 22 years. Winning 6 of them.He does what you measure a qb against. Not individual stats, but leadership, extreme mental gifts , football wise, and the ability to read defenses, instantly male the right decisions and coach the members of the team who he needs to elevate their game and bringing their preperation up to speed and most of all get them thinking like winners. Tom does that and plays the game at an extremely high level. MVP? Hell yeah! LETS GOOOOO!
