No Structural Damage To Evans’ Knee

January 3rd, 2021

Chance he could play.

This afternoon in his postgame presser, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians said the Bucs don’t believe there is any serious damage to Mike Evans’ left knee, suffered when he slipped on wet turf in the end zone today.

Turns out the Bucs were correct.

Per Jay Glazer of FOX Sports (he must have said this on TV because Joe cannot find any article or Twitter), by way of Jenna Laine of ESPN, Evans dodged structural damage to his knee and there is a possibility he could play in the Bucs’ first playoff game in 13 years. But depends on how the knee heals.

The Bucs dodged a major bullet. Of course, Joe wants to see Evans suit up and play, if for no other reason than sentimentality. Look at all the losing he has had to put up with; he deserves to get on the field in a playoff game.

As Joe was writing this article, the Bucs announced they will play at the NFC East champion on Saturday night. That’s one less day for Evans to heal.

If Evans cannot go, hey, it’s not like the Bucs don’t have other receivers.

Get well, Mike!

Re Saturday night game: would this rule out Devin White?

  4. ArmchairGM Says:

Give him the Stamkos treatment. Let him start, play one series, score, then take the night off.

    THANK THE GOOD LORD!!!!!!!!

  6. AJ Says:

That offense was humming too, right up till #13 getting injured. Seems like that shook the team up a little bit. But was able to get back on track and finish strong. Hope we can get ME back @ full strength next week. This offense is firing on all cylinders at the right time. Now that defense is another story, we will have to win shootouts to move on…

  7. Jeagan1999 Says:

Great News! Mike deserves a chance to play in the playoffs after all the bad football he has been forced to endure over the years.

  8. Rod Munch Says:

    YUGE NEWS

  9. Mitch Says:

So thankful it wasn’t serious. They have a Saturday game… that takes a day of healing away. Hope he can make it, but undoubtedly understand if he can’t and believe the rest of the offense will step up for the wild card round.

Ok another note: the defense will be without Devin White. Minter wasn’t bad but he doesn’t make the same kind of plays white does. I hope with Shaq back the pass rush will find life again.

Ira better keep his mouth shut and stop jinxing this team

  11. Bird Says:

Yah we got screwed for saturday night

Mike could use extra day of healing
And devin white on covid needs to be sunday i thought

  12. Miller5252 Says:

I’m really glad we didn’t lose him for all of next year as well. He deserves a playoff shot because I would bet he’d probably have one of his best games in his career. Get healthy and be ready for the second round of the playoffs.

  13. rrsrq Says:

Yes – guess I got plans for Saturday night

  14. Bird Says:

I agree mike will play too.

Just like with bad ankle sprain earlier in year.
    He didnt do much

But he took some double coverage for a while until they figured out he was a gimp.

  15. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

Bucs should light up the NFC East Winner without Devin White and Mike Evans. Then bring them back fresh for round 2, we will need them! GO BUCS!!

No structural damage is good news, .. we’ll see if he can practice on it and how well. Coaches can game plan around him if he can’t go.

  17. gotbbucs Says:

I wouldnt have a problem with him being active for the game, but he needs to be on a pitch count if he does play. Game plan as if you don’t have him and count anything you do get out of him as gravy.
I wouldn’t play him anywhere on the field other than the red zone if he’s still sore.

  18. David Says:

If he can go, and not risk serious damage, he’ll play.
If playing risks causing a real problem, he should sit and wait for the next week because they can win without him in this week

  19. Buc Buckner Says:

Like Mike. If I can be like Mike.

  20. Bucs_Fan_Orlando Says:

Rest up Mike, we’ll need you the second week of playoffs.

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I don’t think there is any way to stop him from playing in his first playoff game.

  22. unbelievable Says:

Saturday night means no Devin White either.
