Historic Success For Byron Leftwich

January 4th, 2021

Two years on top

The numbers do not lie.

For the second consecutive season, Byron Leftwich has captained the NFC’s No. 1 passing offense.

That’s correct. The Bucs passed for the most yards in the NFL last season with America’s Turnover Machine Quarterback, Jameis Winston, and they finished this regular season leading the NFC in passing yards with Tom Brady.

Yeah, Leftwich is not a supreme ruling authority with Bucco Bruce Arians and Brady around, but Brady was mad at someone when FOX cameras caught him looking toward the sidelines yesterday after a red zone incompletion and saying, “F’n stupid, F’n play.”

Leftwich is the guy with the title and certainly he’s called most of the plays over the last two seasons. Nobody can deny the Bucs offense is humming now at unprecedented levels, and it’s balanced.

Leftwich has done a hell of a lot right and Joe is glad he’s here.

No, Joe highly doubts Leftwich will get a head coaching job and be gone next season. He, Brady and Arians have a good thing going, a union that should be better in 2021.

Not so sure about it being “balanced”. It seems like all we do is throw the ball

  2. 813bucboi Says:

several times this year fans(and maybe BL) looked at brady and said” F’n bad throw, F’n wrong read”….lol….

BL may very well become an HC next year….

i dont remember matt laflar, klye shanohan, kliff kingsbury having the #1 passing offense in back to back years…..and with 2 totally different QBs….lol…

    BL IS WORKING MAGIC!!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

i would be cool with AB….dont really need him imo but we have the leadership in the locker room to keep him in check…..

    i’d rather have leonard floyd….

    GO BUCS!!!!!

813, that is a horrible idea. AB is a DJax type of distraction. Worse. Thankfully, I don’t see the Bucs making the mistake again.

    bonzai

    how is it horrible?….

you think BA would put up with his crap?…..or JPP?…or SUH?….or BRADY?….

AB aint worth 10mil right now….he can sign him to a 1year 5mil non guaranteed contract….he acts up in OTAs or TC and he’s gone…again…

we have the leadership on this team to keep him in check…..im i saying run out and sign him?…hell no…but if we did, i’d be fine with it…..

813bucboi, if you think AB would play for that and not make waves, you are lying to yourself.

And so far as leadership shutting him down, that didn’t work for Gruden and why should the team even be put in that spot for a malcontent who we don’t even need?

Come on, man, eat crow on this one. You’re aloud to be wrong. Trust me, it’s painless. I do it all the time.

  5. Buc Bro Says:

He has a loaded offense two years in a row…

Against good defensive teams his units loaded with talent struggle

He gets outcoached routinely by competent coordinators

    He’s good but not great

  6. Dewey Selmon Says:

A good OC does not equal HC material. He should stay if he gets any offers.

  7. SRQ Bucs Fan Says:

Hey Joe any chance you can post that play? I was grabbing an adult beverage and missed the play but heard Brady cussing.

  8. 813bucboi Says:

the #s dont lie as joe stated at the top….lol…

    BL IS WORKING MAGIC!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!

  9. Bird Says:

That was funny. I hope they show that clip in qb room during film study from game. I think everyone will get a kick out of it.

And offense scored more points this year then last year
    Offense is humming right now
If brady gets time i think we can beat any team.
And I think brady is assisting with calling the game for team

I love the new smoke screen pass directly to a receiver when the db is playing off coverage. Its good for 6 yards almost every time. It may be smart during washington game as their dline will bring pressure after pressure. They need to game plan on quicker routes. Godwin on slant is super efficient as well. Not the no risk it no bisquit down field plays that take time to develop.

  10. The Red Mirage Says:

I always laugh when I hear people whine the about play calling. The Bucs just played their best 2 offensive seasons in the history of the team. 73 TD passes and 9621 passing yards, but the play calling sucks? Oookkkkaaay.

  11. Brandon Says:

Not exactly balanced. Rojo is a beast and he barely got the ball. He could’ve gone for 100 yards easily if he had 2-3 more carries.

  12. Stu Says:

    “Balanced?”

  13. D-Rome Says:

That’s correct. The Bucs passed for the most yards in the NFL last season with America’s Turnover Machine Quarterback, Jameis Winston

Whoa….this must be Reasonable Joe writing this. This is the JBF nickname Jay-Miss should have had after 2017. Better late than never.

  14. pepsi Says:

we have Godwin, Evans, Gronk, Brate, Rojo and AB.. behind a solid Oline, all led by the GOAT. why on earth does credit go to Byron Leftwhich whos called headscratching plays for 2 years straight nearly every game.

  15. orlbucfan Says:

I have been squawking for the last 4 years that this offense was developing into the best in Bucs history. I was disappointed with JW being a bust though. Figured it was the usual being bitten by Buc Luck yet again. So, I am enjoying watching it flower even under M12. BTW: hey, Alex Smith, you better watch out for LVD and WG cos those 2 bros have waited a long time for this opportunity, and they are both healthy! Go Bucs!

  16. SlyPirate Says:

Regardless of the stats, BL is not a top OC. You never see misdirection plays. He can’t coach screens. His run plays are generic.

  17. 813bucboi Says:

BL has the stats and wins…11 of em…lol…facts are facts….numbers dont lie…cant ignore them…lol…

give BL credit….brady was far from GOAT BRADY several times this year…

bradys has made “headscratching” throws several times this year…lol…

BL is already the best OC in bucs history and he’ll be an HC very soon…lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  18. buc15 Says:

nah 813, more like Brady working magic

  19. Davenport Says:

BL, seriously? For the better part of the season he managed to get in the way and stifle Tom Brady.

Now, when Brady is clearly in charge, BL gets the spotlight? Please…. this guy has no more chance of being an NFL head coach as i do

  20. 813bucboi Says:

brady cut our TOs down…for sure…

some of you clowns act like the offense was suppose to come in and put up 50+ pts every game….lol….and every play call results in a TD or 50yard run…

this is the best offense the bucs ever had which included no ota’s or preseason and new QB…lol…

BL was in charge of getting a new QB, TE & WR production along with not messing up the weapons we already had on offense, combined with developing scotty miller, tyler johnson and vaughn…..

it wasnt perfect every game but it stacked up 11wins….#FACTS

    BL IS WORKING MAGIC!!!!!

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  21. unbelievable Says:

813 you should really just ask BL out on a date already, or at least tell him you’re in love…

  22. Bucshot Says:

    813….
BL is along for the ride.

  23. Listnfrmafar Says:

Brady has identified the strengths of his new teammates that’s why they’re gelling. BL’s calls are like Pop Warner plays compared to the complex playbook Brady is accustom to. Brady runs this O.

  24. Carl Says:

How can you argue about success. My hope is if Brady stays for 2 more. We may be looking at a SB run again, our first win we started out as the wildcat!
