He’s Practicing!

January 7th, 2021

On the practice field.

The stated goal earlier this week of Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians, in relation to the status of star receiver Mike Evans, was to try to rehab Evans’ hyperextended knee to the point he could practice by Thursday.

If that goal was met, then having him be part of the gameplan would be assessed. So far, the first has been passed.

Evans was participating in Bucs practice in the window open to the Fourth Estate (roughly 30 minutes of stretching and warm-ups). So it is not a stretch to consider Evans may be on the active gameday roster come Saturday night.

Given how bad his injury looked on Sunday, this is beyond the hopes of many Bucs fans.

Jenna Laine of ESPN caught video of Evans today. You can make your own determination if Evans looks healthy enough to play Saturday night or not.

    Great news!

  2. Joe in Michigan Says:

    Nice!

  3. The Red Mirage Says:

Doesn’t look like they gave him a helmet. I don’t think he really practiced today.

Will know for sure later today with the injury report.

Seems to be just working on the sidelines.

  5. Robert Says:

looks fine. I’d keep him as a backup unless he is 100 though. We don’t need a diversion when we have a real threat in AB.

  6. bucfanforever Says:

at this point, since he is capable of standing and there are no NFL-rules prohibiting play, my bet is that he plays.

  7. Mitch Says:

Arians just said Evans and Davis are game time decisions.

  8. Gofortheface30 Says:

Assuming or counting on a win in a playoff game when there is no tomorrow is…I’m trying to be more kind or something, so I’ll say that’s not the best approach. If he wants to play, and he’s cleared, then he plays

  9. mg Says:

A baseball player would have been out for the year.

  10. Miller5252 Says:

I just hope it’s not like a Kevin Durrant injury. Golden State said he was good to go and wouldn’t cause anymore damage and then the next game he hurt it worse and out for the following year. I hope he plays but not at the extent of hurting it worse and shortening his career.

  11. Allbuccedup Says:

Toughest player on the team. You won’t keep him out unless its broke.

  12. ClodHopper Says:

he’s going to play. If he looks like today, good luck getting that tough sob to sit.

  13. Buc1987 Says:

    He’ll play!

  14. Cobraboy Says:

If you did not know he was hurt, you would not think he was hurt.

He will try explosive moves tomorrow. If no prob, he will play

  15. SlyPirate Says:

I thought Evans blew out his knee and may miss NEXT season.

Seeing Mike padded up moving, squatting, hopping, and jogging is amazing.

  16. AKickNtheBucNuts Says:

Do not see a limp or him favoring the knee.

    That’s good.

  17. m0j0 Says:

Dude is GOING to play Saturday. He’s a warrior.

  18. Bird Says:

Hell yah he is playing. Look at video again.
    No wobble in those legs
    No limp

  19. Duane Says:

ME13 is not going to miss the first playoff game of his career. We just need him to expose that Washington secondary in the first half and give him the rest of the day off.

  20. Cobraboy Says:

A hyperextension is scary when it happens, but it’s not a bad injury. I came back in six days back in The Day, and that was with old school crude rehab techniques.

I am sure Evans will be quite effective Saturday night.

  21. Rod Munch Says:

If Mike can play, he’s going to play, even if it’s only to be a decoy for a few routes. Great news.

  22. Jeebs the Honey Bear Says:

He’s going to want to play but I do not think it’s worth it to risk losing him any further. The video is not much to go by but he does not look 100%. This is why we got AB. Let’s beat a team we should beat without Evans, and then have all our weapons for the next one.

  23. Listnfrmafar Says:

Like we have to account for 2 QB’s he has to play even if it is limited. Without him as a threat WFT will have a easier time doubling AB. Brady is going to need all the weapons possible to make it impossible for Washington to cover. Bucs don’t want to be one & done. If that happens how do you think White is going to feel?
