“Gronk Was A Force”

January 13th, 2021

Manhandling blocker. Video style!

Yes, Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith got mad props for the way he shut down mouthy Washington defensive end Chase Young, who pleaded two weeks ago to play park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady.

He got what he wished for.

And while Smith deserved a lot of praise for making Young his personal service dog, it wasn’t just Smith who took out Young.

The Bucs often decided to use future Hall of Fame tight end, foot-rubbing, car-littering Rob Gronkowski on the line as an extra blocker and he had a field day.

Gronk was on the field for 55 snaps and had but one target in the passing game. The rest of the time he helped impact the game by buying Brady time to throw.

If Gronk wasn’t tying up Young, he was getting to the second level to take out a linebacker like Ryan Kerrigan.

“He was like an All-Pro tackle,” said NFL Network’s Brian Baldinger, a former offensive lineman himself who did a video breakdown of Gronk’s blocking.

Gronk was such a dominant blocker last week, Joe wouldn’t be surprised if the Bucs use Gronk in the same way this week against the slimy Saints.

You can enjoy Baldinger’s breakdown of Gronk in the video below.

And all the DS apologists were praising his efforts yesterday………

I watched the game and saw the help from Gronk, not every play but often enough.
Durable Donnie gave a little more effort than usual because he knew he had too.
Any talk about keeping him should stop…..

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Absolutely stick with Gronk blocking……..use Brate in the passing game……we need to give Brady time because NO has great CBs…….someone will get open.

  3. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Gronk was huge. EVERYONE was huge on offense. If the Bucs players bring it like this on Sunday, the Bucs win! No way the Ain’t beat us 3 times. Cam Jordan shuts his yap.

  4. Listnfrmafar Says:

Gronk is a true Hall of Famer for what he does on and off the field. Keep him in the majority of the time but use him sparingly on those quick screens his did against Atl and fake block and release on quick slant, for years he has taken that reception to the house. Do not totally discount him as a receiver, he is a baller.

  5. Hodad Says:

Maybe Gronk can play another five years buy switching to left tackle? Baldy said he blocked like a pro bowl tackle, not me, so why not? Imagine Gronk as Tom’s LT, the two of them playing three more years!

  6. DoooshLaRue Says:

    ^^^^^^
Save 4 million and get 💯 effort EVERY play?

    I like it!

  7. David Says:

    Dooooosh….
    Seriously?

When is this ignorant football talk going to stop? How much evidence do people need? The O line has been one of the best in the league this year and probably a top three line since the Saints debacle. A big reason has been Donovan Smith. He’s a top 10 left tackle. They’re not going to replace him and just find someone better. He had issues with penalties early in the year, that seems to have been cleared up.

Smith handled Chase Young by himself the VAST majority of the time. Then there were times when Gronk did. But it was mostly Smith. The whole line and all blocked outstanding.

And they’re going to need to do it again against the Saints

  8. DoooshLaRue Says:

Donnie is not a top 10 tackle.
Our OL has been playing well this year but DS is the weakest link and needs to be replaced.

Keep watching your hero LT…….. if you pay attention you’ll see what I mean.

  9. Bird Says:

    Gronk for tackle next year
    😂. Jk

But i mean that is impressive. What an athlete. They should give the ball to him as rb on 3rd or 4th and short He can do it all

  10. Issac haggins Says:

Good Hands , feet and understands the play and players around him 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

  11. 813bucboi Says:

that was great…the way gronk was blocking, he could be a HOFer at 2 positions…lol…

We’re going to need it sunday…

    GO BUCS!!!!

  12. Swampbuc Says:

I saw Gronk one on one with Chase Young a few times and he stoned him. What a stud, what a selfless player. May pie against the Saints we can release Gronk after mauling Cam Jordan for a few Plays to keep Saints coverage honest.

  13. bojim Says:

    I’m seriously impressed.

  14. bojim Says:

I never used to pay attention to the OL till I came to this here site years ago. Sure makes the game so much better. Thanks Joe. And all the members.

  15. 6throundpick Says:

The Patriots running game was MUCH worse with Gronk out of the lineup…and their offense. He’ll block, block, block, and the- BOOM! Endzone.

  16. Joe Says:

    Thanks Joe.

    Thank YOU!

  17. DoooshLaRue Says:

I just googled top 10 and top 20 NFL LTs……

    Hmmmm…… no Donnie.

    Weird, right?

  18. gp Says:

Could be interesting, Imagine our left tackle reporting as eligible on every play?

  19. m0j0 Says:

Gronk is a beast! Allows us to really keep teams off balance, because he can beat you as a blocker and pass catcher. Just a total stud TE!

  20. Ericb Says:

YES DEF USE GRONK AGAIN NO HAS A GREAT PASS RUSH ….brady is going to need time to throw against NO ..use a balanced run attack as well…USE ALABAMA PLAY CALLING AGAINST OHIO they had great i mean great play calling..we need to use some of those plays and hold back a bit on blitzes then rush in AL did it in the beginning of the game it worked…it worked also towards the end of the gam against WFT…..DEFENSE GET FIRED UP WERE SO CLOSE TO THE SB play like your hair is on fire!!!!! LFGO!!!!!! THIRD TIME IS A CHARM TAMPA BAY ALL THE WAY

  21. Cobraboy Says:

That is impressive, winning football. I can imagine the hoots and hollers in first team film review on Sunday.

I’m not sure the Saints pass rush is that much better than the FTFKATR.

  22. Steve in Mad Beach Says:

    What a beast!

  23. Drunkinybor Says:

Wow what a difference a Gronk makes!!

  24. Sumosam Says:

What an awesome display of film. Gronk is a Beast.

  25. Capt.Tim Says:

Like most offenses, the Bucs are right handed. Gronk lined up alot on the right side, and really helped spring Fornette for 94 yards.
It was an OUTSTANDING effort by all the Bucs blockers.
I hope they stonewall the Saints the same way!

  26. Buczilla Says:

Thanks for the video, that was freaking awesome!

  27. Bellingham Bucs Fan Says:

That’s why he’s the GOAT TE.
