Devin White’s Virus Timeline

January 2nd, 2021

Playoff game status.

[UPDATE: 9:59 a.m.] Provided Devin White’s COVID test is false-positive (hopefully), meaning it was a mistake, some Bucs fans have speculated White still could play in the Bucs’ first playoff game in 13 years come next week.

NFL sack king Shaq Barrett and White were placed on the Reserve-COVID list yesterday and are our for tomorrow’s game with Atlanta.

Per Shaq’s wife Jordanna on Instagram, Shaq was just a contact case and he will be isolated for a period before returning to the team if he doesn’t test positive. White, however, tested positive and his availability for the Bucs’ first playoff game in peril.

Bucs fans point to how Saints running back Alvin Kamara also tested positive and if the Saints are playing a week from Sunday, he could be eligible.

For that to happen to the Bucs, they must win Sunday. NFL insiders are pretty adamant that if the Bucs win tomorrow and happen to face the Cowboys in the playoffs, that will be a late Sunday game and possibly the Sunday night game.

Jenna Laine of ESPN laid out the possibility that White could play in the Bucs’ first playoff game. However, she believes the chance is remote.

Rules prohibit teams from speaking freely about players — and to players — on the COVID list, similar to players in concussion protocol.

Players who test positive for COVID may participate in virtual meetings.

The element Laine mentioned is key: White won’t be with the team for 10 days. Will virtual meetings suffice? And will the player be anywhere close to 100 percent?

Is White that much of a stud that he doesn’t need to practice or be with the team in drills, not even Zoom meetings, for a playoff game?

[UPDATE: 9:59 a.m.]Players who test positive may participate in virtual team meetings.

  1. Cannon Says:

For what it’s worth, it took me 10 days to kick COVID. That was 10 solids days of being very sick. It took another 4-5 days to fully recover.

Let’s hope White got a mild case.

  2. Mitch Says:

Joe I thought Devin could be apart of virtual meetings and game planning for the game? At least that’s what I read. He just can’t participate in practice or be around his team/needs private travel until game time.

  3. Chris L Says:

This has already ruined my new year. Even if he plays he had no contact but we’ve got to assume he is out. Minter played well last year but knowing this do we want to face the cowboys anymore? They do have the best offense and would be the hottest team coming out of that division. All teams have their strengths including Washington d line but do we want the giants? Although Daniel Jones always lights us up

It’ll give him plenty of time to watch film of him miss reading plays and getting schooled by OC’s …
GREAT news it was a false positive!

  5. Jeff Says:

He’s done for the season. Bucs lose to ATL and then to Seattle. Bucs lose big. This is too shocking of a loss for the Bucs. Game OVER! Season over! Only the Yucs would do something so stupid.

  7. Durango 95 Says:

My understanding is there are no restrictions on him being involved with Zoom meetings. Seems to me that he would be privy to game preparation.

  8. Steve Says:

I think I like our chances against a better opponent verse a Sunday night game. The Bucs do not play well in night games.

  9. Ufcguy Says:

This has been laid out. He can be in virtual meetings, he can game plan etc. Shes completely wrong about this. Also if he retests negative today its 5 days from Thursday. Bottom line is he can probably play either way. He is asymptomatic with no signs. Jenna really needs to do a better job than this. Devin can play next Sunday as its from the date of the test not the day it came back.

  10. Snook Says:

If its a false positive, why would he have to stay away for 10 days?

  11. Razor Ramone Says:

Damn Jeff, I bet you’re a blast at parties.

  12. ncbucsfan Says:

I’m juuust about done with the commenting on this site. Just doom and gloom negativity and sadness that is heavy and depressing. Wah, wah, wah…we don’t have Devin White now all is lost, wah, wah, wah! I’m allergic to pansy talk….fortunately its not in person or I’d break out. Alvin Kamara just tested positive but the Who Dat nation isn’t losing their ish whining about it! I was always told that if you don’t have anything positive to say then shut up. Trust me, it has worked wonders!

  13. ClodHopper Says:

“So if the Bucs have a special gameplan for the team they will face in the playoffs, in theory, White won’t be privy to that information”

Good thing we’re not a “gameplan” kind of team.

He’ll get the game plan at halftime with the rest of the team.

  14. Ryan Jensen’s Hair Says:

    Hey Jeff….
Go dress in a banana suit and jump in the gorilla paddock

  15. Cobraboy Says:

It all depends on the timeline. The protocol is 10 days from the test date and time.

My $$$ is on a false negative. The PCR is grossly inaccurate. 90% of positive tests on asymptomatic people are false. Oddly enough, 10% of symptomatic people are also false.

The inventor of the PCR has stated clearly the test does NOT detect Covid-19 but does detect fragments of RNA still present after a prior cold (also a coronavirus), flu or RNA-replicating virus, and when the cycles are set above 34 generate massive false positives. The NFL PCR is set at 42 cycles.

  16. Nutterbutter95 Says:

Thus the importance of tomorrows game. I think we saw that when our offense is humming, not too many teams can beat them. I think the Bucs, even undermanned should beat the Falcons, even if its in a boat race. I would much rather face the Football Team or the Cowboys without White then I would facing the Seahawks/Saints/Packers. I trust Minter to do a serviceable job while White is out against teams that Tampa SHOULD beat.

  17. NIRO Says:

So Rojo Was in covid list last week and he can perform this weekend. What is diferent?

  18. SmoothBayRider Says:

    Hey Jeff …..
Go take a bath with a toaster .

  19. Cobraboy Says:

According to the NFL protocol, unless it has changed, the 10-day quarantine can be mitigated by two negative tests in a 24 hour period.

  20. Bucfan81 Says:

Just proceed without him and everyone else will have to step up. Not like Devin was all that great in coverage anyways. I would rather have him on the field. The strength of this team might have to be the offense for a few games.

  21. Defense Rules Says:

Cobraboy … Good info, thanks. It sounds like the key is for Devin’s test to have been a FALSE positive, which we still have to wait and see about.

In any event, I’ve got a lot of confidence in Kevin Minter. Many folks seem to forget how good he is because he doesn’t get many snaps playing behind Devin White. Doesn’t have White’s elite speed, but still, he’s got a lot of talent & a lot of experience.

Now if Shaq can’t play, that’s a different story. I like Nelson, but he’s still very inexperienced. Besides that, we don’t have much depth behind him.

  22. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Showing no symptoms from a test that has a 3% accuracy rate …. Covid is a lie and you’re all gullible fools for letting them take our lives away over it

  23. Gofortheface30 Says:

Dallas Cowboys/Brady. Throw in the star receivers Dallas and Tampa has – you better believe that’s going to be the most prime time of prime time games

  24. Cobraboy Says:

With McLendon also out, We may finally get a look at rookie DT Khalil Davis.

I don’t see a stout run D against the Falcons. Losing a NT and two LB’s does not bode well. LB and DT depth will be severely tested.

This could be a high scoring game.

  25. Gofortheface30 Says:

Cannon – ya well “all due respect,” in my best Italian voice – do you have diabetes. Do you have heart disease, do you live and workout everyday and eat relatively healthy. It’s not a matter of mild case versus severe case, the cases vary by genetics, and the type of lifestyle you lead. The fact of the matter is, there is a lot of unhealthy, overweight people in the United States of America. And people that never once cared about their health before now all of sudden care! Funny how that works

  26. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Ha!!! I’m in jbf jail for telling the truth.. even this site is trying to censor free speech because what I’m saying goes against the MSN narrative … Don’t you see how blind that is??

  27. Sorryjackchuckiesback Says:

Gofortheface …. People don’t really care about this they are more worried about fitting in … If the vast majority didn’t believe it and took off their masks watch how fast these people would go along… Most people are sheep dude… This has AMAZED me how quickly people gave up their freedom and ability to feed themselves over something they never researched themselves and that the MSN has been caught lying about over and over…. Even Fauci has admitted to lying 2 times …. And people still blindly do whatever he says… I’m shocked at how sheepish people are

  28. Kentucky Buc Says:

I predict Lavonte David has a monster game with White a and Shaq out. Time to unleash the David blitz packages. Seems like they mostly been blitzing White lately. I’m sure it’s because David is better in coverage. Time to turn him loose.

  29. August 1976 Buc Says:

OMG the sky is falling, the sky is falling— NOT!!!!! The Bucs biggest problem will be their divison round playoff game, not the NFC Least opponent in the Wild card round. Hopefully the division round opponent does not have a good pass rush. Enjoy sunday Bucs fans against the hotlanta dirty birds. The birds will be trying protect their draft position. GO BUCS!!!!

  30. Jmarkbuc Says:

“ He’ll get the game plan at halftime with the rest of the team.”

Now that $hit is funny 😂😂😂👍

  31. Cobraboy Says:

According to tankathon, the Falcons are #4 in the draft. A win could conceivably put them at #11.

You think Blank would want that as an inducement for a new GM/HC?

Morris is in a no-win situation: win for pride but hurt the team and every GM would know it, or lose to show loyalty to the organization.

The fine edge is to *lose* while looking like you’re trying to *win.”

Maybe that was the motive behind Winston’s OT pick-six last game last season… 😉

  32. Kentucky Buc Says:

I feel a little sorry for Arthur Blank sometimes. That Iconic shot of him in the background of Brady during the super bowl comeback. With that being said I hope Bucs win by 50.

  33. Buc4evr Says:

I’d probably go with a 4 man front the whole game and blitz Winfield a lot. We can still win if we can keep Matty lite off balance and keep him from rolling out.
As much as they hate us, it makes no sense from a draft perspective for them to even try to win.

  34. orlbucfan Says:

sorryjackchuckiesback: take your bloviating BO and shove it. Redneck Raptors will be ready. So will the Bucs. It will be a good game, and great prep for the playoffs. LVD will be a monster, and I hope the secondary catches his bug. 😊🏈👍

  35. adam from ny Says:

    just a thought:

so shaq and DW are basically just sitting in posh hotel rooms by themselves right now watching movies, porn and getting room service meals delivered to them?

    isolation in fancy hotel quarters?

    staying away from all contacts?

is that how it works for nfl players kicking the covid?

unless DW lives alone in the tampa vicinity and can just isolate at home and order in food…

shaq has the family and prolly has to stay away from them too…

what a screwy situation as playoffs approach

  36. adam from ny Says:

running thru that mini fridge of treats and eats can be fun if they get bored

  37. adam from ny Says:

does the team go into the hotel room first and set up a entire virtual scenario for them, so they can be in meetings and have everything they need, so they are basically in practice virtually while sitting in a hotel room???

  38. Elita Vita Says:

Looks like we are pretty much at full strength on offense. We might even have RoJo back….. so that’s half the team. On defense, we have replacements that can fill in and still do a solid job. Add to this Bucs momentum and Falcons wanting a significantly better draft choice and all should be well tomorrow! Go Bucs!

Wow, only 3 percent accuracy??? Thats amaaaaazing that we would spend all the time and money that we have for those kind of results…Or, you are just full of spit and making stuff up to prove a false narrative. Im thinking you fall under the number TWO of these options

  40. Fernando Diaz Says:

jenna Laine being dramatic, he will play next week.

  41. Mike Johnson Says:

We never complained when we trounced teams who were without key players during covaid. Well guess what? its out Turn so suck it up with next man up. And Just-us for all baby.

  42. FoolDrool55 Says:

Can someone explain why Kamara isn’t in doubt for next week, but White is? Thanks

  43. Cobraboy Says:

Actually, at 42 cycles the PCR has about a 10-15% accuracy rate in mom-asymptomatic humans, according to the inventor of the test. The test is 90% accurate for detecting viral RNA fragments (not just CV-19, but a cold or flu you may have had in the last few years) at the <32 cycle level.

Do you remember what we USED to call “asymptomatic?” Answer: “Healthy…”

  44. Cobraboy Says:

    @FoolDrool: It’s the math.

Kamara was swabbed Wednesday, and Wednesday + 10 days means he is eligible if NO plays on Sunday, not Saturday, next week.

But NO could end up with a BYE if they win, and the Packers & Seahawks both lose, which is not that likely.

We have yet to hear when White was swabbed, because if on Wednesday—it takes 24 hours for the NFL to get results—then he could also be eligible for a Sunday playoff game.

I am pulling for the Cowboys to win their division because if the Bucs win tomorrow, I suspect the NFL would love to have a Bucs-Boys Prime Time game in the JerrtyDome on Sunday night.

  45. Cobraboy Says:

@Mike Johnson: I complained about every game when opponents were not at full-strength vs. the Bucs because of the CCP Flu.

  46. Joe in Michigan Says:

I didn’t think El Buco Realisto could find a woman to do such things with, but Jeff is obviously his offspring.

  47. David Says:

I just hope he comes back healthy. It would suck if he misses the first game but I don’t think they will have a problem beating the NFC East winner, assuming they win tomorrow.

I just hope he does not have it and comes back healthy without it lingering.

  48. Samao on Vita Says:

    Hey Jeff,

You are oblivious to what the “TEAM” has done this year. They must fight on each gane with severa l lpayers out! Vita is perrenial prom bowler, the democrats havw vilifed
