“This Guy Just Continues To Defy Age And On Some Level, Logic”

January 27th, 2021

Superior.

There seems to be a popular in-thing swirling around society where people argue who is the best of two non-basketball association players.

Some say it is Michael Jordan. One Joe could count the number of games he saw Jordan play in the non-basketball association on his fingers and toes and might have a couple of toes left over.

(Joe’s favorite Michael Jordan game was when he got beat by Bobby Knight and Indiana to end his college days and Dan Dakich held him to 13 points and one rebound.)

Then there are others who say this LeBron James is better than Jordan.

Bobby Knight always said the greatest player in the game was Jordan. That’s good enough for Joe. Besides, Joe has never, ever seen this LeBron James play. Never. Not one second. Not a non-basketball association guy. At all.

(Just like Joe has never ever seen a gator since arriving in Florida in the 1990’s — and has no plans or desire to see one either.)

Anyway, Joe’s good friend Jason McIntyre of FOX Sports, who is a self-admitted NBA honk, said there is no such Jordan-James argument in the NFL.

McIntyre said the way park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, handshake-stiffing, jet-ski-losing, biscuit-baking Bucs quarterback Tom Brady is playing football at 43 defies description. Therefore, McIntyre said, Brady stands alone on the NFL mountaintop.

“We have never seen a guy this old perform at a high level,” McIntyre said on his FOX Sports podcast “Straight Fire.” “He had three touchdown passes. On the road. In Green Bay. I know the second half was (arse) but he was very good in the first half, man. He made [the Packers] pay.”

McIntyre noted that Brady is in his 10th Super Bowl; the next closest quarterback to start multiple Super Bowl is John Elway at five.

McIntyre said that as an old man in football years, Brady goes to Tampa and right away gets the Bucs, the NFL’s fire hydrant in a dog park (those are Joe’s words) to the Super Bowl.

“At some level, you have to be impressed!”

Joe has stated on the Ira Kaufman Podcast, if Brady and the Bucs win the Super Bowl next Sunday night, it will seal it for Joe. The guy who never threw a pick while winning four Super Bowls, Joe Montana, was always Joe’s guy, in part because of the gauntlet he always had to maneuver to get to the Super Bowl.

Brady often had a cakewalk to get to the Super Bowl.

This year, aside from riding the Bucs to their second Super Bowl appearance, Brady also outdueled two future Hall of Fame quarterbacks.

If the Bucs win the Super Bowl, Brady will have had Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Pat Mahomes. Not even Montana had to climb those mountains.

You can hear McIntyre’s full take in the FOX Sports audio below.

Not sure I would call beating KC, Pittsburgh, Baltimore, Indy (with Manning & Luck) and Denver a cake walk. Other than NO, GB & Seattle who were the quality NFC teams in last decade?

  2. Ftmyersbuc Says:

Brady often had to beat peyton to get to his superbowls, or a ferocious ravens defense. Joe Montana seems more clutch but brady has a longer track of greatness.

  3. Bird Says:

A lot to take in there

First of all , its jordan. In the New NBA with lebron you go to whatever big city with 2 or 3 of your allstar boyz and grab the top role players and monopolize the league. I Stopped watching the nba years ago. No loyalty and literally because the players dictate everything only 2 or 3 teams have a chance to win a championship each year. Orlando magic have zero chance of winning anything ever again (i live in orlando)

Second, joe you need to get out more . Are you a germaphobe for some reason? You live in florida …go to any lake in the area. I take it you dont get on the water? Gators are everywhere. 😂 You dont play golf? They are there too

Thirdly , Brady has set the bar so high. The only person that may have a chance to catch him is Mahommes. But mahommes probably wont play until he is 43. Andy reid is no spring chicken although mahommes would succeed with other coaches. Remember brady said he wants to play until 45. I believe
Him. Unless maybe he wins this year and there is nothing less to prove. Although he wants all brees records 😂

  4. Miller5252 Says:

There’s a big reason you have never seen a guy this old doing what Tom Brady is doing. The NFL has changed the game 1000% for QB’s. If you touch anywhere outside of that one foot square section in the middle of a QB you get 15 yards. These QB’s playing today only have to stay in the pocket and take care of themselves and they can play just as long as Brady. Everything in the NFL is built for an offensive players now and every stat will be up for grabs by the time QB’s like Mahomes goes to retire.

  5. Thisisouryear!! Says:

Super Bowl stats aren’t from rules as much as a leader on a dynasty. That’s what Brady and Montana did. It’s going to be hard to match.

  6. adam from ny Says:

in a few years, when TB retires and BA also retires…

can tom brady just please take over as head coach?…

just pay him a wicked 25 mil a year as a head coach too…

    #PayTheGoatAsHeadCoach

  7. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Also being a Montana guy, I understand where you are coming from Joe. But I have to say, Brady has climbed that mountain just getting to another Super Bowl. Three road wins against division Champs. Sure, WFT is some weak sauce, but winning in NO vs Bress, then in GB vs AR with a new team that hasn’t been to the playoffs in over a decade does it for me; TB beats out Montana.

And lets not forget that when Montana went to KC, that team was pretty decent and, yes, Montana made them better. But nothing close to how TB has transformed the Bucs.

  8. Cannon Says:

I’m sure you could make the argument that Brady tops even the might Jordan (when comparing the biggest legends across disparate sports)

I’m not one for hyperbole, but Brady is at that level.

…and to think, our team will forever be associated with the man

  9. gp Says:

If Mahomes doesn’t change his style of play, he’ll be lucky to survive ten years in the nfl.
    There’s a reason TB12 has a reputation as a statue, It’s safer.
Mobile quarterbacks are fun to watch, no doubt. But few of them (any?) go uninjured and make it to a second contract.
Especially when they develop an attitude that irritates defenses to the point that sacking him is as much for the satisfaction as for the game.
Notice that Brady has never exhibited a “punk” attitude.
Consistent winning made him “target” enough.

  10. Ghost of Darrell Henderson Says:

The reason Babe Ruth was a legend was that he called his shot. He met a little boy in a hospital bed and told him he would hit a home run for him. Later that day, he pointed to the fences, called his shot and hit that home run.

    Legendary!!

The reason Tom Brady is a legend is that he called his shot. He didn’t get into a Twitter war with Belicheat and Kraft. He simply went to the most desolate outpost of the NFL, called his shot and in one season turned the program around, taking them to the Super Bowl. Does anyone here doubt that he will win??

    Legendary!!!

  11. WillieG Says:

Yes, the AFC East sucked, but there were 10 other games he played and he played a first place schedule. I think most teams have 6-8 sucky teams to play each year.

  12. Listnfrmafar Says:

Personally I believe a guy that could challenge Brady for stats would. be Herbert if he lasts. He is mobil but doesn’t have to be. Jackson & other running QB’S do not last this has been proven as far back as Tarkington, Cunningham, RG111 & Vick. Mahomes is a bit different but the sliding to the side and cross body throws can only last so long and to be honest how many Hills come along? You wouldn’t know who Kelcie is if it wasn’t for Mahomes. Miller5252 10, 20 yrs ago hitting the QB was common place and hurting him was the goal. Brady played in that era so.no excuses there. QB’S today are more fortunate you blow on them and a flag comes out like the premadona NBA player but your body still has to be able to handle a faster game so things pretty much even put with exception of the extended season, that could skew things.

  13. Dave Says:

Montana only got there when he had the best team so of course they won. Brady takes everyone to the dance and still has won 50% more than Joe.1

  14. Buc1987 Says:

    Montana has FOUR rings.

    Brady has SIX rings.

    Who’s the GOAT?

  15. Leighroy Says:

Brady will have played in 18% of the Superbowls ever.

  16. stpetebucsfan Says:

Joe Montana had Bill Walsh, Sam Wyche coaching his offense. He had the GOAT at WR and Roger Craig was an excellent QB. The Niners organization was always spectacular.

Brady had a defensive genius in BB as his coach. With Brady BB was 1-6 in his OTHER seven seasons.

I agree that the AFC was and IS the weak sister of the league. But the Niners didn’t have it that bad either. They did have to get past some of the very talented Cowboy teams in the NFC.

Brady can only win against the teams up against him. It’s not his fault that his Division sucked…he still had to beat the best in the AFC…including Mahomes one year..and then the best of the NFC.

Montana may not even be the second best QB in history. If Marino had Walsh…who knows. Johnny U is from a different era…still had freaking high tops on…but in his day…

  17. stpetebucsfan Says:

    Typo…Craig obviously RB not QB

  18. David Says:

There’s a certain category where the actual sport does not matter, Brady is in that category.
Brady, Jordan, Babe Ruth, Ali, Gretzky… there are definitely others, like some Olympians, but you know what I mean.
At this point, why every NFL player, and all of our lazy arsses, aren’t on the
TB12 regimen is beyond me. Pure laziness if we’re not. 😂
