Another Linebacker On COVID List

January 11th, 2021

Two days after playing in the team’s first playoff win in 18 years, another Bucs defender finds himself on the COVID list.

Linebacker Kevin Minter, who started the last two games in place of Devin White at inside linebacker, now finds himself in the same spot White was — out on the NFL’s COVID-19 reserve list.

So that puts Minter’s availability for the Saints game on Sunday night in peril.

On Saturday, the veteran had six tackles and a pass defended, which was a tipped ball that led to Sean Murphy-Bunting’s first-quarter interception.

Joe just has a kind piece of advice for the rest of the Bucs; please hide and quarantine yourselves for just another four weeks (at most) and then you can be as careless/careful as you desire until August.

Never did hear Joe if Devin White actually had COVID or just tested positive and was asymptomatic. Some of the folks I’ve known who’ve contracted COVID have been very sick, to include some of my younger friends. Hopefully Devin just had a mild or no case and will be back 100% against the Saints.

    Stunning numbers:
Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive stats (Week 1-8): 229.1 pass yards/game, 66.1% completion rate, 83.2 quarterback rating, 28 sacks, 11/11 TD/INT ratio, 70.4 rush yards/game, 3.2 yards per carry.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers defensive stats (Week 9-16): 264.9 pass yards/game, 72.6% completion rate, 105.3 quarterback rating, 19 sacks, 16/4 TD/INT ratio, 85.6 rush yards/game, 3.9 yards per carry.

You can argue some of this is the schedule – the second half had the Chiefs for example. What is clear, very clear, is that the Bucs have become much more vulnerable to the pass. I suspect the problem starts up front – the sack numbers have declined pretty dramatically. It is also worth noting we lost Vea in week 5.

Against WFT we struggled to generate pressure. Barret was invisible (though he was double teamed).

90% of PCR tests are false negatives.

Which list is he on? Positive test, or close contact?

    Here we go again

  5. Listnfrmafar Says:

Oh boy how about all those who were in contact with him? Are we going to have another Shaq issue again?

Let’s just hope the rest of the LB corp doesn’t get hit or we will be totally fkd this weekend… I shudder at the thought of David or our OLBs not being able to go…

  7. crazyBucs_CL Says:

no place for whining….Rams QB came from side line with broken finger, and beat Seattle at home….go there and play football to win and to score A LOT of TD…. only with high score we can beat them….TB12 ME 13 CG14 AB81 ….RG87 CB84 Scotty….. we have so many weapons…. go and score…. and score…

    God hates the Bucs.

I said before the season that this years SB winner will have a Covid *

I used to think that might demean the title because of the unpredictability of the disease.

Now I’ve changed my mind. That Covid * should actually add value to the SB title. It means teams survived the grueling effort required to win the title as well as fighting a Pandemic.

Unbelievable … With Minter unavailable, our LB corps (excluding OLBs) now consists of:

    o Devin White
    o Lavonte David
    o Jack Cichy (recently re-signed)
    o Deone Bucannon (recently re-signed)

Let’s hope White & LVD stay healthy the rest of the way.

I am really REALLY interested to see how they handle Shaqs contract situation. The defensive line in general. This game is huge in many ways and I believe will decide some people’s’ futures on defense. AB, has proven to be a fantastic signing. He’s getting (got) his legs back and looks like the old AB- he can rightfully command a large contract. But he’s a luxury. The point I’m trying to make though, is we have a Super Bowl offense, RIGHT NOW. Hell we have an all world offense. But I’ll be GD if this defense will keep us from what should be ours next year and that’s a Super Bowl. I’m fine with losing pieces like AB and Brate to fortify that Defense. I have just as big of a problem with our defensive line, and a lack of pressure as I do with our defensive backs

Man, I sure hope Minter is not positive. If he is, we may have a real issue in the coming days.

  13. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Normally, I’d accuse Minter of poor judgement…..but CV had gotten wicked lately.

  14. Tbbucs3 Says:

I wonder how Minter got covid….he seemed to be pretty socially distanced from Heineke on Saturday….

  15. Bucs_Fan_Orlando Says:

I can’t understand why the bucs don’t impose a bubble.

Rent out a hotel, the whole dam thing, put the entire team and staff in there for the next few weeks.

It’s beyond crazy that the bucs and all the teams for that matter haven’t installed a bubble? Is there some sort of rules against this?

I would be shocked if anyone really would object.

  16. Bobby Says:

That would be stupid. If one person got Covid from a staffer at the hotel then the whole team could be compromised. Keep them split up but keep them safe

  17. TampaTown Says:

I saw somewhere that Devin White was positive but totally asymptotic. Who knows

  18. SOEbuc Says:

    Great.

  19. Capt.Tim Says:

Minter is a very Good linebacker.
    We will miss him
Fortunately, Jack Cichy is an incredible LB.
Not as good as Minter against the run- but great in coverage!
He is made of glass, and cant stay healthy.
Otherwise, he would be a very good starter for some team.
Just gotta hope he can get thru the game- and we’ll be ok.

    @DR

Yes that’s pretty scary too, damn. Depth is basically non-existent at that position behind LD and DW.

Time to play with some fire then!
