Ali Marpet Working On One Sack, Too

January 13th, 2021

Excellence.

Joe is damn happy and excited to continue to type about how rookie right tackle Tristan Wirfs is dominating in his first year in the NFL.

Someday, Wirfs could be the best pick made by Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, though Wirfs has an uphill climb to make that mountaintop as Mike Evans is likely heading to the Hall of Fame.

Well, another offensive line pick by Licht, a somewhat controversial pick at the time, is also making a name for himself.

Per the PFF tribe, since Week 6 of 2019, Bucs left guard Ali Marpet has given up just one sack in 1,075 snaps of pass coverage. If accurate, that’s a damn good ratio. The 2015 second-round pick from Division-III Hobart College, the earliest Division-III player ever drafted, is having a helluva year after missing Weeks 9, 10 and 11 with a concussion.

One thing is for sure, Licht has built a damn solid offensive line, even dipping into small schools (Alex Cappa and Marpet) to get the job done.

If you’d like to see that sack allowed by Marpet, it’s in the video below.

Took some time to develop, but have to give Licht his props, looks like he had OLine prowess after all. It’s hard to Blame Licht for D Smith’s motor not always working. These guys all have the talent. Bravo Licht- I was first to show you the door, but here we are in the playoffs round two, two games from the super Bowl- Hopefully JW doesn’t come in to seal a win in relief or for the kneel down, because then I will have to go back to laughing my a** off and saying you all suck. In fact I’d either like to see the Bucs win the Super Bowl, or Jameis somehow win the Super Bowl in Relief- Either one would tickle me equally. If Jameis comes in to heat the Bucs I will laugh until next season, and probably for ever- Don’t get me wrong though- I’m rooting for the Bucs 99%

    To beat the bucs

  3. Rob Says:

The turnover machine licking his fingers and eating W’s when he literally had zero to do with any win for the Aints all year is classic Jameis. I want the Bucs to win for a hundred reasons but seeing the look on the turnover machine’s face after the Bucs knock New Orleans out of the playoffs would be icing on the cake. Let’s go eat a W in the turnover machine’s house. Gooooooo Bucs!

Not a JW hater as some are but, it would be kinda sweet, if Jameis relieves Brees only to toss the interception that seals the game for us.

    Back to the article though…
Wouldn’t mind seeing reasonably early picks split evenly between OL and DL every draft until we have no question marks on either side plus depth.
And I don’t care where they come from as long as they are road graders.

Agree with both those comments, gp.

I think DE/OLB is our biggest priority on the lines- JPP might finally be losing that battle with Father Time. Suh is getting older as well. Not sure Nelson or Nacho are ever going to amount to much.

But yes I would love if every year one of our first 3 picks was always spent on the o-line and/or D-line. Teams that are strong in the trenches always have a chance, year in and year out.

  7. Mike C Says:

Clean house, we don’t need your 99%, take your @$$ to the aints and hug some nutz.

  8. teacherman777 Says:

I hope we sign GMC back next year as a 3rd down pass rushing DT.

Imagine Suh on 1st and 2nd down. GMC on 3rd.

They could be a very dangerous combo.

    Go Bucs!

    And Shalom is Ali Marpet!

And Luck Stocker too! (I hope we sign him back too)

The memories. As a Bucs fan from Greece (since 1998) that was the first time i had the opportunity to watch the team in person, London 2019. And boy that was like a summary of all the Winston years in one game. By no means this is a bash on Winston and please dont take it like that ( i have his jersey even ) but i saw like 5 or 6 INTS and a fumble i think. I did enjoy the experience to see the Bucs. Hope sometime in the near future they will have a game in the UK or in Germany, and hope i can make it one time and come to Tampa. Good luck for the Saints game, the D has to show up bi. I ll be watching and Go Bucs.

    The Hobart Hammer!

Stoked when we drafted Ali and he’s even better than we could’ve asked.

Unbelievable- former GM Dominik prides himself on not utilizing draft currency on OL- errantly proclaiming that he thought OL would be better, undrafted, and after they had pro tape.

So dumb on so many levels and glad we are not stuck with that stupid line of thinking. Control the line of scrimmage.

  11. Bucfanforever Says:

His concussion in week 9 was the biggest contributing factor to the Bucs being whooped by the Saints,IMO.

  12. AlabamaBucsFan Says:

Never imagined Cappa would be any better than average, but he has proven himself and look forward in seeing him the pro bowl one day soon. Licht did a great job in drafting OLinemen. Hope we pick up some bottom feeders in this coming draft as backups.

    Clean house

Just officially change your poster name to “clean jameis jock”
    I mean everyone knows anyway.
    And No one cares

Its just surprising how you are able to take down the entire sach at one time. And dont come up for air.

And if jameis were still here we would be what 7-9 , 6-10 or maybe one good year at 8-8
I mean he won 4 out of 10 games So Not even half

And you hated line last year. It was a jameis excuse # 22. And You dont think the oline this year has something to do with brady pocket presence and quick release. And throwing ball away if nothing there quickly instead of running around looking some football miracle. Again wirfs is only change in oline and apparently dotson had great year for his new team. Not sure he gave up much or any sacks at all

You will have your chance next year with saints cause jameis may get shot with brees retiring. So just jump ship now. You are not buc fan. Just clean jameis jock fan. 😂

  14. Bird Says:

And wasnt oline penalized heavily last year.

Joe anyway to find out where they were ranked in that dept
