Tough Running

December 19th, 2020

Among league leaders.

Joe cannot remember the last time the Bucs had a running back who was a tough, productive runner.

Oh yes, Earnest Graham was a tough runner. LeGarrette Blount was an underrated tough runner. At times, Doug Martin was a tough runner but in way too few games.

It seems Ronald Jones has turned into that.

Joe defines a tough runner as a guy who can get yards in traffic, a guy that doesn’t fall to the ground if someone sneezes on him. RoJo has gotten a hell of a lot of yards up the gut like an old school fullback. Who guessed before this season that would have happened?

Per the PFF tribe, only three running backs in the NFL have more yards after contact than RoJo, who is fourth in the NFL in YAC.

Just look at that number for that freak Derrick Henry. And he still has three games yet to play!

Those numbers complement RoJo’s 900 yards rushing, also fourth in the NFL.

Yes, RoJo won’t play Sunday. Between the broken pinkie and being placed on the COVID/Reserve list, it’s up to Leonard Fournette, Ke’Shawn Vaughn and Shady McCoy to get yards in Atlanta on Sunday.

RoJo will be missed, Joe is afraid.

Here is Fournette’s chance to earn a decent contract from whatever club he goes to next year.

Derrick Henry is a Phu c king BEAST!
Most RBs hope to get 1100 yards.

  3. MtBucsfan Says:

    Umm Blount comes to mind.

  4. Will Says:

Imagine if they actually gave Rojo the amount of touches Henry gets or if he just got 15-18 consistently with a coach that didn’t just run him up the gut. BL is allergic to running a sweep or any type of misdirection that would get Rojo 1 on 1 and in space. This offense should be so much more with all these weapons.

  5. adam from ny Says:

all 4 on the list should be pro bowlers

  6. BucfaninMi Says:

Biggest mistake was letting Blount go. Best RB the Bucs ever had.

Blount was the best RB the Bucs ever had. Big mistake letting him walk

And some of you wanted to give up on the guy after 23 carries. Joe was one of them, gotta also give the coaching staff props for guts, grit and results.

We got a pass rush that Joe clamored for.

We drafted a young secondary that Joe said not to do, because we can’t develop young secondary players.

The list goes on of things Joe has been wrong about. I’m just awaiting the correction articles, especially about Manziel. Yikes…

    In BA I Trust!

What’s up with ke’shawn Vaughn? He should get some touches this week on early downs.

  10. No Risk It No Biscuit Says:

I feel bad for the young man. He for sure wants to show Koetter what good coaching looks like.

    Go Bucs!!!

  11. Stanglassman Says:

Don’t feel too bad. He will get a chance again in two weeks.

Really Joe? So you never watched the team when we had the A train Mike Alstott breaking tackles, running over peoples faces scoring touchdowns? Lol

I mean I know it seems like a lifetime ago when we had “thunder and lightning” in our back field but…….COME ON MAN!!! Lol

  13. Señor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

Derrick Henry is Earl Campbell Lite. I say that as a compliment as Henry is the only RB who comes close to that in recent memory.

And please don’t try to tell me Henry is anywhere close to Earl. If you make that argument, please send video of someone Henry trucked like Earl did. (no, rag-dolling Ramsey is not even close).

  14. Tamoabaybucfan Says:

Been noticing this with Rojo from the very beginning……had 4 defenders on him 3 yards in the backfield on several plays & Koetter simply gave up on him….

  15. Ftmyersbuc Says:

Some of rojos early struggles were him getting blown up in the backfield, but you got to give credit where due. He has put on weight, muscle, and clearly is a very coachable player (which gives hope this staff can soften those stone hands.) Whatever you say about this giant coaching staff, you gotta admit they can develop a rb.

  16. Evolvingbucsfan Says:

Errict Rhett was a tough runner, never seen a guy hit a hole so hard with no where to go, lol. Wasn’t flashy but he was a work horse, i remember thinking not sure how someone could smash into people over and over like he did game after game and still keep playing like that game after game. His first 2 years were pretty good then eh, but he still hit that hole lol.

  17. PSL Bob Says:

ROJO is good. Really good. And, I love his heart for the game. But….., Henry is great. HOF great! Wouldn’t you love to have a beast like that in his prime on this team?

    Interesting point.
