Steve Smith: Bucs Will Get “Ran”

December 27th, 2020

NFL Network analyst Steve Smith.

The Bucs had just completed four quarters of football (Atlanta second half, Detroit first half) that the NFL has not seen in 40 years.

But that’s not good enough for Steve Smith. The loudmouth NFL Network analyst and former teammate-punching receiver for the Stinking Panthers took to the NFL house organ’s airwaves Saturday and unloaded on the Bucs, documents Dan Bernstein of the Sporting News.

“I’m just gonna make a statement: When the playoffs come, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are going to go get ran,” Smith said of the Buccaneers, who waxed the Lions in their Week 16 game. “They’re gonna get routed. I know I shouldn’t say this, but it’s going to be a good, old-fashioned a— whupping.”

And leave it to none other than former Bucs great Warren Sapp to get a whiff of what Smith said. Sapp took to Twitter and had his own choice words for Smith.

Joe is pretty sure Smith was on the Stinking Panthers roster when they went to the Super Bowl. Oh, and they happened to lose that game to this guy.

Think Smith may have an ax to grind?

Steve Smith always goes against the Bucs. He’s a former Panther.

  2. Wesley Says:

Dude is still sour towards his old rival. Ha ha ha

  3. stormy Says:

great player but an AHOLE & still a A-HOLE.

  4. Jonathan Limpchimpi Says:

Never liked him as a Panther…but respected his abilities. He has a history of cold cocking teammates…garbage has who’s making it personal with the Bucs for some reason. Admittedly he had a ton of success vs Tampa over the years…nothing to be bitter about.

  5. Alexstotle Says:

Steve Smith has some valid points but this is Steve smith talking so I ignore it cause I don’t pay attention to trash.

  6. GMC hater Says:

    The salt is real lol

  7. DrunkInYbor Says:

Ok I bet you cant jump over the viper pit..What what are you… .. chicken!! Lil Stevie falls for it again.. LOL!! Go Away loud mouth NEVER WAS

  8. Clean House Says:

Haha- one of my favorite players- good bulletin board material. That’s exactly what we need- someone to talk trash openly.

  9. ManzielMadness Says:

Keep doubting Brady, it’s just how he likes it.

  10. BA4President Says:

While his analysis of the Bucs is totally biased, that dude was a great player and definitely did sh** in the post season. His team was three points from a superbowl win and in a separate past season game, he caught a 60+ yard walk off touchdown in double overtime.

  11. Swampbuc Says:

If the Bucs lost a rematch with KC in the Super Bowl would Steve Smith prance around telling us all he told us so? Hey, he might be right, but he’s sitting there and the Bucs have one more tune up game before the post season tournament.

Go get the number 5 seed, Bucs. Kill the Falcons with choking defense, at least 45 yards receiving for Evans, and lots of two tight end sets for running the ball with Rojo so he can get to 1000 rushing.

  12. John says Says:

The key to the playoffs is to keep Brady vertical and his opponent horizontal. A lot goes into keeping Brady vertical, line play, blitz pickups, protections, play calling, hot reads, ball security, rising to the moment etc. The defense needs 2.5 seconds horizontal reslts from coverage and pressure.

  13. Lunchbox Says:

This is completely cool with me that he said this. I hope Brady, JPP and Arians gets in front of the team and shows them this and says, “Until we beat someone good, until we keep our cool on a big stage, HE’S RIGHT. Now let’s go prove him wrong, and rub his nose in it.”

  14. ItzOK Says:

His criticism is fair. The bucs have lost every game against a playoff team and they weren’t even close games despite what the score said. One exception is the Packers game. They also laid the egg against a bad bears team who are in the hunt to get in the playoffs. Beautiful thing is if they can pull it together they have a chance to prove him and every other Bucs haters wrong. I wouldn’t bet against Brady in the clutch. This is why we got him. to go 4-0 in December, and crank it up when the pressure is its highest.

  15. #1bucsfan Says:

Haha thanks sapp for having our backs. Now let’s put this trash out by the street

  16. Alan Collingwood Says:

succeeding is the ultimate insult to a small, petty, insecure person

  17. Bird Says:

In pregame he said stafford would exploit carlton davis like every other team this year.

I mean cmon. Not true and CD didnt even play
At least do some research and watch the games

  18. Coburn Says:

Part of my worries that he’s right. If we face a good pass rush we may struggle… But we may finally be getting offense synched and it’s Brady in playoffs. Once you’re in it’s a different game. The regular season doesnt matter much

  19. Rod Munch Says:

I literally don’t care what he has to say. The Bucs beat the Packers at home, and that’s the only win they have this year against a team with a winning record. Reminds me of the 1999 Rams who played a cupcake schedule, didn’t beat anyone and then the refs handed them the NFC Championship game. I’d be fine being handed the NFC Championship game – and if that was to happen, we’d finally have one of our teams, in their leagues ‘super bowl’ that finally gets to play at home – not that anyone can actually get SB tickets.

But that’s way in the future, the Bucs need to win next week to secure that #5 spot. Personally I’m hoping the Redskins lose out and the Cowboys win out, that’s the easiest best matchup for the Bucs. Then we need the two teams behind us to win, and boom, we get a home playoff game! (chances of it happening, around 1%)

  20. PuertoRicanBucFan Says:

He won’t put no money on it tho

  21. Chris Boyd Says:

lol joe, i love how the picture you chose has his mouth as wide as possible. the perfect encapsulation of the windbag this clown is

  23. EA Says:

Unwatchable pre and post game analysis by NFL Network yesterday, I guess the talented people took the Christmas weekend off.

  24. adam from ny Says:

    nothing…

  25. richbucsfan Says:

At least the Bucs are in someone’s conversation. THAT hasn’t happened in a very long time. Time will tell. We all know our weaknesses. Maybe the young DBs will grow between now and the playoffs. Who knows….

  26. ClodHopper Says:

He just might be right if/when we play the Packers or Saints.

  27. alton green Says:

    waah waah waaah!!!

  28. alton green Says:

for us old timers, we still remember Ali standing over his opponent screaming “what’s my name” So take that acorn head back to looserville. There’s no room for a whiney loser. You’ve had your 4 quarters of fame

  29. AlteredEgo Say: Your comment is awaiting moderation. Says:

Hell of a WR and tough football player… folks there are So Many NFL Talking heads unless you are sensational about whatever you are lost in the crowd… nothing to see or read here , but it provides something that the Bucs coaching staff can’t provide! A outside One Buc throw down!
Thanks and … say how is Ray Carruth doing?

  30. stpetebucsfan Says:

When I first saw that last night I immediately thought somebody needs to make sure this gets posted or viewed in the locker room…the old pre sickness days.

But it’s even better. TWITTER..with video…awesome. Every Buc player and coach’s cell’s blew up last night with texts…”Did you see this?” “Really?”

I agree with all the guys saying Steve Smith…great talent…incredible competitor but a bit of a jerk. I immediately thought of Warren Sapp and lo and behold the PERFECT Buc to respond fires back.

The trash talk entertains many…it excites me because I know the Bucs just got a solid kick in the arse heading into the playoffs. I want more and more doubters!

  31. Listnfrmafar Says:

I’m surprised he could put that many sentences together. No rings and mentioned nothing about Rams losing to Jets, Pitt to Cincy and Az to SF bith with 3rd string QB’s. He is an idiot, Bucs the real deal.

  32. El Buco Realisto Says:

You can staple this to every players forehead and it still won’t matter!!!!!!!! Come playoffs they will not be playing against the jets, jags or hapless Detroit!!!!!!!!!! This is an Avg team that can beat bad teams, and has played a soft schedule that had a lot of breaks their way!!!!!!!! Enjoy it today sheep, because reality is just around the corner!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!

  33. Durango 95 Says:

Yet another example of why I find so many former players pretending to be analysts/ commentators unbearably bad.The mentality is on about a 6th grade level. Making the NFL Network mostly unwatchable.

  34. Jedleman Says:

Smith has little man syndrome. We also call that Banty rooster syndrome around here lol. Anything to get attention. Played for the Panthers and Ravens. You do the math on that.

  35. Listnfrmafar Says:

Stick ur hand up El buco Realisto’s ass there’s a Steve Smith puppet in the house. You clearly no nothing about the game. Did you miss the GB game? I believe they are the #1 seed

  36. kyle Says:

d-bag, I always mute the tv when this azzclown is speaking. He’s a loser, never won anything.

  37. RICHARD weeks Says:

El bucco is a jameis fan..He hates the bucs..
I bet he has jameis posters all over his bedroom walls…probably some 40 year old living with mommy..go put your superman pajamas on and go drink your milk and go to bed you pathetic boy..

  38. james west Says:

could tampa and brady been sandbagging up to this point, and ready to unleash the hounds of hell, put a smack down on green bay just to show the team what they were capable of, and at the last quarter of the season arians and byron turn up the heat and get the boys loose and fired up? just win enough to get to the playoffs and then minga what a show! time will tell

  39. Chris K Says:

Bucs will run this clip before the playoffs begin. Thank you Steve Smith!

  40. Bucsfan951 Says:

Rod: other than beating the hell out of the Bucs, who are the saints statement win?

How about the packers? Give me 1 team they beat that was a huge statement win.

    And Seattle’s statement win was?…

The Bucs didn’t choose their schedule, they just played it. Perhaps go look at other teams schedules and see who they beat, lost to, and the scores of those games.

  41. Bucsfan951 Says:

Actually EL REALISTO, going off of power rankings guru dot com, the Bucs have the 10th hardest schedule this yr.

    Panthers-3rd
    ATL-16th
    Saints-18th

The 4 teams with the easiest schedule?

    32. Pits
    31. Ind
    30. Cleveland
    29. Gb

But keep going on about the Bucs having the easiest schedule. Maybe perhaps you can hit us with another narcissistic realist repost!

  42. geno711 Says:

    @El Buco Realist

Bucs schedule is not soft. Your commentary is off like normal.

    Example below:

    El Buco Realisto Says:
    March 19th, 2020 at 10:22 am
The sheep will nuts for drafting OT in the first, or trading for an OT!!!!!! But when a draft is deep in a postion. Usually there will be a robust secondary market for OT from teams cutting older , overpayed OT that can be had on the cheap!!!!!!!!! Also, that second round OT market free agent has experience and can play well THIS year, as a drafted rookie will have growing pains!!!!!!! If you are going to mortgage the future, might as well to try to maximize draft picks that can contribute right away!!!!!!!!!!!

  43. Listnfrmafar Says:

Easy??? Saints twice, KC, Rams, Minn, GB, Chic, how us this easy? There were not 1-14 or 2-13 or 3 win teams on their schedule.

  44. ChipBuc Says:

Steve Smith still hasn’t got over getting knocked out on the field against the Bucs. Still remember laughing out loud after the safety lit him up coming over the middle. I know i shouldn’t have laughed about someone getting hurt, but Smith was such a Ahowle that all I could think of was karma’s a B

  45. Cobraboy Says:

The way things could shake down, IF the Bucs win playoff game #1, IF, playoff game #2 could be in the frozen tundra of Green Bay.

I’d rather go to LA or Seattle.

  46. SufferingSince76 Says:

Steve Smith is a punk. Always has been. Good player, but a punk nonetheless.

  47. Hodad Says:

So if we play Washington in the first round we’re going to get run Steve? Or the Rams, the Seahawks will walk all over us? The two top teams in the NFC are N.O., and G.B.. Those are the only two teams that worry me. So no Steve, we ain’t getting run that easily.

  48. BA Redzone Says:

I flip the channel when that blowhard starts talking!

  49. Listnfrmafar Says:

If they end up going to GB, not worried about Brady, Gronk & AB. Evan’s and Godwin not as experienced playing in January weather

  50. DBS Says:

Back into hiding with Brokenmirror El Fakeo. Just like him you are no fan . You have proven it over and over. And you don’t heard anything but yourself.

  51. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

El Buco, are the sheep not interested in you anymore? Aren’t they keeping you warm? Bahhhhh…..

  52. Jmarkbuc Says:

    When we win…

We should chip in and send 500lb. Of ice to The lobby of NFL Network . With a tag.. For Steve Smith.. ICE UP SON.

Hater line forms to your left, right behind Belichick steve.

  54. Avelyne Vianueva Says:

Seriously Steve Smith? So much hate. Get over yourself!

  55. Jerry Jones Says:

@Unrealisto, your throwing up a hail Mary comment and prediction. You’ve not even been commenting like you always used to, BUT, as soon as some douche says something to fit your narrative you’re all over it, which proves how far off you really are. I love it, all the haters are SOOOOOO angry, LOL!

  56. WillieG Says:

Sometimes Joe annoys me, but other times I pity Joe. Anyone who has a business that requires them to watch idiots like Steve Smith deserves pity.

  57. Oneilbucs Says:

Look Steve Smith sr has a right to his opinion just like every body else . I’m glad we are in the playoffs and we will see how it ends . But what he said didn’t bother me at all . The bucs need to win the superbowl and that will shut him up . It’s still superbowl or bust for me because they didn’t bring in all these players just for a playoff appearance . Let’s get the job done !! Go Bucs !!!

  58. Buc4evr Says:

Steve Smith was a good player but a dirty player and a punk that needs a good beat down. Why the nfl network hired that moron is beyond me. Whenever I see that guy on the Nfl network, I turn the volume down. Nothing that guy says is of any interest to me.

  59. Joe Says:

Sometimes Joe annoys me, but other times I pity Joe. Anyone who has a business that requires them to watch idiots like Steve Smith deserves pity.

LOL Sort of like a movie reviewer. Can be a pain but beats working for a living. 🙂

  60. Big Black Dick Says:

Gary Coleman with Barneys suit on he’s an angry little fella. Dude needs a snickers….

  61. Buczilla Says:

Smith was a damn good player and he’s just talking sh!t against a former rival. I try my best to avoid the screaming morons, so I have no idea if he is a good analyst or not. Sapp would curb stomp him into next week if he’s not into mma.

  62. Reginald Flowers Says:

Did Steve Smith win a Super Bowl?

  63. MadMax Says:

barely heard of him…..but yeah, count us out….underdogs for all

  64. Lyndon Robinson Says:

Who is he are you watching football my whole life and I don’t know where it is let’s be that same sit on the side line and watch the players

  65. Ge Fit:oi Says:

Remember if the Buccs get by round 1 Brady has spent 20 years playing in the cold, the snow , and ice ! I think it would be a great match up in GB . As for Smith he’s an Axxhole. You never respond to an Axxhole you just hang his comments in the locker room for incentive!!
