Special Moment For Lavonte David

December 26th, 2020

Enjoying the moment.

Now in the final week of his ninth regular season, all with the Bucs, Lavonte David had known little but losing.

Oh, sure Joe once witnessed the Bucs with David flirt with the playoffs in 2016, when the Bucs won nine games. Then it was back-to-back five-win seasons.

Same ol’ Bucs.

This year, oddly enough in the final year of his contract, David and his teammates finally broke through. Playoffs they will go thanks to whipping the Lions today 47-7 in a game that was over in the first quarter.

David made sure to spend a moment after the game with two teammates who knew Bucs losing as well as he did: Will Gholston and Mike Evans.

“After the game, me and Will [Gholson] hugged each other,” David said. “He was one of the guys who was here next to me. Mike [Evans] in the locker room – I broke it down and Mike just gave me a big hug in the locker room. A lot of guys, staff, everybody was like, ‘It’s about time.’ They [said] they’re proud of me and they’re happy for me. It’s a great feeling. …

“It’s an amazing feeling. I’m blessed to be a part of it.”

The Brady influence on the Bucs may have just then kicked in on David.

Brady seemed ambivalent about making the playoffs. Then again, Mr. Six Rings is wired to play in the Super Bowl, not just to be a wild card team in order to practice one more week before taking his new boat out on the Bay.

“Now the question is, what’s next?” David asked. “We have to keep on climbing and keep on grinding. We’ve got a chance to get in the tournament, so now it’s about what you’re going to do while you’re there.”

As Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians said, anything can happen. He’s walking/talking proof of that.

You go, LVD!!!!!!!!!!! You da man, and have been for 9 long frustrating years. Fans like me have been following and rooting for you. Methuselah12? He has no idea what losing year after year is like. And right behind you are ME13 and Gholston. I am, like, super psyched for you all. But, please do not take Hotlanta lightly. GO MIGHTY BUCS!!!!!!

  2. Joe in Michigan Says:

Happy for the long-time Bucs. Happy for the new Bucs. Happy for the Bucs fans. Happy that the Bucs are on a 3-game win streak, and we haven’t heard much from the trolls.

  3. Bucmike Says:

first time in along time i felt really satisfied after a Bucs win. was feeling super good and then the post game “high as a kite” Steve Smith proceeded to laugh at our Bucs and stated how they would be outta the picture after first round of playoffs because we”ll have to play a “good team”. S. Smith and the NFL network can kiss my Buc lovin, forever orange, swashbucklers watcher, goober eating, Bucn butt. GO BUCS, fly em high……….Bucmike

  4. JustBucNwin Says:

Couldn’t be happier for an NFL player! Now Brady can keep them focused and eyes on the prize!

  5. BucAllNight Says:

Great day of the Bucs and all the TRUE fans that have been here since day 1.
It’s been a long time coming!!

  6. Bucmike Says:

Bulletin board material: S. Smith says Bucs will be gone after first round because we”ll be playing a “good team” GO BUCS

  7. David Says:

Happy for him. But yes, keep striving for consistency and a fast start and playing 60 minutes.
A balanced 60 minutes on offense and defense and they can dominate and play with anyone

  8. Miller5252 Says:

It’s not just playoffs for David. The sad thing with all the losing year after year all of his number and accomplishments will probably not get him a gold jacket. The only thing that will get him there is winning in the next few years. The guy deserved to be talked about like Luke and the Seahawks player but since they didn’t win and he never would play the game it cost him money and possibly the hall. I can’t be happier for the guy and since being forced to be one of the true leaders a lot have changed. Hope he balls out come playoffs and does his best Brooks impersonation and dominates.

Great to see LVD get his career-long wish……hopefully he’ll get to play at least 1 playoff game at home….maybe 2…..

  10. All lives matter Says:

Happy for these guys ..it’s been a longtime coming

Let’s enjoy and savor the victory but be realistic in the process. We could go one and done. Was that Detroit thumping a precursor of things to come, or are we maybe getting a little over our skis? I think this next game against Atlanta should give us a better perspective unless they lay down like the Motown Kitties just did.

Words don’t discribe this moment. It’s bin a long 12 years. Bin a fan since Trent dilfer was out QB. Man this is soo awesome

  12. rrsrq Says:

My son 26 year old son blames me for making him a diehard Bucs fan. He always reminds me of the stress he goes through every game and every year (including today’s game before kick off). I remind him, I just pointed the way, when you experienced that SB win when you were in your teens, you just been waiting for that feeling again, now it’s back and you want more. I also remind him other the two other teams in Florida that has not tasted that victory since his birth, lol..

  13. DoooshLaRue Says:

    Congratulations LVD!
You deserve it and your workmanship has been admirable!

  14. bojim Says:

You made it Lavonte!! Resign him!!

  15. Lunchbox Says:

I said it in an earlier post, but I think it’s too bad Dot wasn’t here for this too. Up until last year, he was the longest tenured Buc, and never experienced the playoffs. This would’ve been so sweet for him as well.

  16. Cometowin2 Says:

Great player, great teammate. Has never received the recognition he deserved. Look at tackles, turnovers caused and turnovers recovered. Definitely one of the best will or inside LBs ever. If coaches had blitzed him more, like Schiano did, with his speed would have had the accolades. Or if we just hadn’t sucked for the first 8 years of his career. Best Bucs linebacker ever not named Brooks.

    Go Bucs!!!

  17. Juggernautical Says:

Super happy for my Bucs!!!! I only wish McCoy could’ve been here on the team to also feel this joy.

  18. DavidBigBucFan99 Says:

True test is how this team comes out next week. They started out fast and strong and things slowed down a lot after Brady sat even though Gabbert did throw two easy tds . They owe Atlanta exactly what they did to Detroit only without missing any extra points. They need to be running full steam ahead into the playoffs and pummeling the Doity Boids will be a great finish to the season.

Now we ALL have to be Seahawks fans tomorrow

  20. ItzOK Says:

Great day for LD. Bad day for author of the article. I don’t expect much of this blog but how about getting the score correct. This isn’t a panthers blog

  21. adam from ny Says:

lavonte looks like a different person in the pic above…

    and at his presser yesterday…

i guess that “playoff glow” can change a man’s face…

    he’s lookin’ like a happy guy…

and that’s good to see…he’s earned it !

  22. stpetebucsfan Says:

What would have been cool is if BA arranged for TB12 to give game balls…already painted and ready for the trophy case to those three in the locker room.

And while we all feel the relief and joy for ME and LVD we should also stop and take moment to consider the Rodney Dangerfield of this team.

Donovan Smith seems to garner the most abuse so I’m not talking about that.

I’m talking about being taken for granted and disrespected his entire stay with the Bucs.

William Gholson has gotten some praise over the past couple of years but this guy has contributed far more than he’s received in props. The difficulty with truly appreciating Gholson is he just does what’s asked of him every year very well, He doesn’t put up gawdy stats in any individual year…but go ahead and add them up and you quickly come to realize William Gholson is that unsung quality player who doesn’t flash, who isn’t a star, but Who always contributes.

Every championship team has these guys…underrated but who help create the space for the stars to shine. Whether it’s Lamar Lundy…who?..played alongside of Deacon Jones and Merlin Olson and Rosey Grier in the “Fearsome Foursome”

Every band needs drummers and bass players to set the tempo and rhythm for the lead guitarists and singers. Props to William Gholston!
