Second Half Rebound

December 1st, 2020

Hall of Fame RB talks Bucs.

The Bucs were awful to start the game Sunday against the Chiefs. Asleep at the switch.

The second half was a different story. The Bucs outscored the Chiefs 17-7 in the second half. And a Hall of Fame running back and former ABC and NBC NFL analyst believes the second half of the Chiefs-Bucs game is the Bucs team fans will see in the playoffs.

In giving a wrap-up of the weekend happenings in the NFL, Hall of Fame running back O.J. Simpson, speaking from a golf course, believes the Bucs may have turned around their season in the second half of the loss to the Chiefs.

“That second half showed me that Tampa may finally be rounding into the team that we thought they were going to be,” Simpson said. “I am pretty sure they are going to be tough from this point on.”

Simpson added he liked how park-violating, home-invading, NFLPA-ignoring, down-forgetting, jet ski-losing, handshake-stiffing Bucs quarterback Tom Brady mixed in short passes, long passes and run plays as the Bucs came within a field goal of the Chiefs.

Yeah, that second half wasn’t too shabby by the Bucs. Problem was for the second straight week the Bucs had a terrible defensive gameplan and waited way too long to adjust.

By then, the damage was done.

    For the second straight week???????

Whoever is ‘writing the script of plays’ to start games needs to be fired!!!!

  4. El Buco Realisto Says:

Word on the street is that Simson is not a KC fan!!!!!! He thinks they should be more “cutthroat” to end games!!!!!!!

    go bucs!!!!!!!!!!!

  5. Roy T. Buford Says:

Did he get that information from the real killer?

  6. Hodad Says:

I’m surprised Licht, and Arains haven’t tried signing O.J.. They love washed up players with dubious pasts.

  7. Dewey Selmon Says:

First game i ever went to. 2nd home game 76 season. OJ and the Bills won 14-9. Watched Dave Green score the first points in Bucs history.

  8. Roy T. Buford Says:

Dewey…didn’t go, but remember that game. OJ was really the unstoppable force. But the Bucs held him just 39 yards on 20 carries in that game. I seem to remember Ray Scott saying the Bucs tolday held OJ to fewer yards than his jersey number. I think that was the game where the Bucs began to establish their identity that would stick for a few years as being very tough to run against.

We are more likely to find the real killers of Ron & Nicole than we are to find consistency.

A neighbor of mine is a KC fan….he said…your team won 3 quarters in that game…….yep….great….lost of good that did us.

  10. RojoForever Says:

Yeah, looked really similar to our losses last year to the Seahawks, Titans, Saints game 1, Texans, Falcons (both games).

Coaching matters. Our coaches are not elite. Not close.

  11. Jon Jegglie Says:

Don’t debase the reputation of your page Joe by writing posts exclusively citing double murderer OJ Simpson

  12. Jason Says:

I defend Joe most of the time( not that he needs it,) but seriously Joe, no more OJ Simpson please. You’re better than that.

  13. Beeej Says:

The LEAST amount of points scored against us since the Green Bay game is 20. That’s an area that needs to be addressed…is ALL of it from Vita going down?

  14. Bobby M. Says:

Bowles has two options….neither are good. His defense really relied on the push from Vea/Suh to mask the secondary. Without it, the QBs generally have enough time to pick us apart. We go man….opponents go over the top for a quick score. We go zone…even avg QBs can execute the offense against our zone. There’s simply not much that can be done…..except keep the opposing team’s offense off the field. That can be accomplished by burning clock via running the ball….We had 3 or 4 straight “3 & outs”…..try running the ball 3 straight times vs passing on every down. Its amazing that we keep doing the same things that aren’t working but keep referencing the need to do the things that correlate with success for our team. As i stated on a previous post, to bail on the run at 17-0 in the 1st qtr was pure panic. We drive the ball down, burn clock and score a TD, you’re right back in the game. Its 17-7 with 3 qtrs left. Its pretty telling that our coaching staff believed that they HAD to start scoring quick….as if there was no way we could keep KC from continuing at that pace. The coaches have ZERO faith in that secondary…..ZERO.

Opponents are quickly identifying huge holes in the defensive game plan and exploiting those deficiencies with great aplomb. Use all 3 timeouts in the first quarter if necessary to make adjustment , because constantly being way down on the scoreboard after the 1st quarter will not savvy.
Rojo has earned 25 to 30 carries a game and 3-5 targets as a receiver. Fournette only comes in to give Rojo a blow after a long run-PERIOD. Falcons may not be the cannon fodder we all thought they would be , bucs need to win 3 of 4 including the last 2 to have some mo going in to the playoffs.

    Killer analysis.

  17. Pewter Power Says:

So what that defense sucks anyway and should have had a problem moving the ball in the first place. If you can’t play a complete game even once in the regular season you have no chance in the plays especially as a wildcard.

  18. rrsrq Says:

Bowls should really be in a press man, single high safety the rest of the year, if not Theilen will beat us with the Vikings, you will need that safety in the box with Cook who could be mad he was passed over by the Bucs. Focus on the TE for the Lions and put pressure on Stafford and Ryan, nothing fancy – but send D. White and LVD and make their opponents uncomfortable.

  19. Bradinator Says:

A little better planning and we wouldn’t have to know what a great adjustment guy Bowles is. It’s like the D goes out and just “wings it” for the first half to see what the opponent is about. Watch some film first AND then create a plan that counters it before we have to defend it.

  20. D1 Says:

    Rrsq,

Press man doesn’t work without a pass rush. I’m not sure if we can get pressure on the QB fast enough. That and press coverage makes a QBs job much much easier. That’s why QB’S love to see it.
Basically, it’s a bad idea for the vikes and falcons. Lions sure.

  21. Buxszntkt Says:

I love the insight from “the Juice”, he clearly knows when he’s got an opponent on the ropes and how to finish them off. He’s also selfless and willing to not take the credit himself for those killer plays he makes !

  22. PSL Bob Says:

Not so sure I agree with OJ’s take. The Bucs have looked just as good other games this year as they did in the second half of the Chiefs game. The problem has been inconsistency. They can’t seem to keep it going game after game. And, there is a huge difference in game planning. Opposing teams game plan for the Bucs in advance of the games and implement a winning strategy right out of the gate. It seems the Bucs wait until the game is in progress to see what their opponents are going to do and then game plan while the game is in progress. You’ll never beat good teams with that approach.

Please Joe , are you this desperate that you need commentary from this piece of crap ? Don’t give him the platform , yes you provide it by putting his comments on this site . Use just a little discrepancy!

  24. stpetebucsfan Says:

The last two games we played within a score till the two minute mark.

We not only started slowly more importantly we FINISHED poorly. We could have won BOTH the Rams and Chief’s games despite the poor starts.

IMHO instead of throwing the baby out with the bathwater we reevalute our accomplishments.

Our biggest failure…we are inconsistent…and sometimes incredibly stooopid. How do you get back to back D offsides and give the best team in the league and absolutely free first down. Our guys too frequently look lost in the zone coverage schemes and we put poor C Davis out on an island against one of the fastest guys in the league.

We don’t throw enough short possession passes or run the ball enough.

These are ALL problems that can be fixed. The majority here seem ready to give up. I feel we’re just getting started. I’m incredibly excited about the final four games…all of which are both winnable and loseable for the Bucs. I can’t wait to see how we play..when it’s up to our potential without too many damaging mistakes we are TOUGH!
