Playoff Drought Over!

December 26th, 2020

Bucs fans will drink tonight.

Finally!

Finally the Bucs ended their playoff drought. Has Lavonte David cried yet? Joe almost did.

The last time the Bucs made it to the playoffs, the Raiders coach was coaching the Bucs. And the Bucs’ stadium on Dale Mabry Highway had state-of-the-art analog replay boards.

Let’s take a look at what was going on in 2007, the last time the Bucs made the playoffs:

* Apple big-shot Steve Jobs announces the release of his new gadget, the iPhone.

* Android phones had yet to be sold to the general public.

* Windows Vista is all the rage.

* Bob Barker ends his reign on “The Price is Right.”

* Barry Bonds breaks Hank Aaron’s home run record.

* Lily Munster, Ernie Ladd, Sean Taylor, Darryl Stingley, Bam Bam Bigelow, Anna Nicole Smith, Richard Jewell, Merv Griffin, E. Howard Hunt and Bill Walsh died.

* Real estate magnate from New York City, Donald Trump, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his work as the producer of the Miss Universe pageant.

* Pat Mahomes, an 11-year MLB pitching veteran, was still hanging on to his professional baseball career pitching in the minor leagues for the Syracuse Chiefs. His son, Patrick, was still in grade school back in Texas.

Since the Bucs were last in the playoffs:

* A global pandemic brought the world to its knees.

* Tom Brady won three Super Bowls.

* The NHL added a Las Vegas franchise and the Raiders moved to Sin City.

* The XFL II and the AAF died before finishing their first seasons.

Joe could go on and on here but the fact is it was WAY too long to wait for the Bucs to be relevant again. And a major thanks to Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht, Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians and so many of the Bucs players who were in grade school when the team last made the playoffs.

And props to Lavonte David. The guy busted his tail for the past eight years playing under the radar because his team stunk so bad.

Joe wouldn’t blame David one bit if he shed a tear. Bucs fans throughout the nation are rubbing their eyes with pride tonight since this terrible postseason drought is over.

Finally. It’s hard to believe, but it has happened.

The Bucs are back in the playoffs!

  5. Casual Observer Says:

The goat has the best trio of wide receivers to target in the history of the NFL. Hard to stop this offense when all are healthy.

Bucs in Patriots out. Now what was the question again?

Yeah, something tells me Tommy Boy is pretty happy to be in Tampa and watch the Patsies and Bellicheat struggle in NE.

Last game bucs appeared in the playoffs they got outplayed by a much younger and more physical team, the Giants who went on to win the Superbowl.
Bucs had a bunch of old guys nearing retirement across the board. Led by guys like Jeff Garcia, Earnest Graham, Anthony Becht, Joey Galloway, Ronde barber and Derek Brooks.
Yeah it has been a long Drought.

Joe, I kinda feel like congratulating you. JBF has never covered a playoff game. I’m really happy for the Bucs organization, the players, the fans, and for you. This has to be good for business. You could have thrown in the towel years ago and became JoeLightningFan or JoeRaysFan but you stuck with the Bucs. I know you tried those other ventures (been reading for over 10 years). You’ve suffered with all of the real fans. Now enjoy the playoffs!

  15. D-Rome Says:

    I guess it WAS Jameis.

    Of course it was!

Blaine Gabbert and Mike Glennon have had a better season than Jameis Winston. That should tell you everything you need to know about that draft BUST! Letting him walk was easily one of the best decisions in franchise history.

  16. Listnfrmafar Says:

Impressive even though Steve Smith Sr.a man with NO rings thinks Bucs just beat up on bad team. If that was the case what about Jets over Rams, Cincy over Pitt and SF over AZ with a 3rd string QB? Why isn’t Scotty returning punts?

  17. SLAM Says:

Last time Bucs made the playoffs, my new born son was a month old. Now he is 13 years old!

I hadn’t thought about that! JBF had yet to be born. I’m surprised Joe didn’t get in a little dig.

Last time the Bucs reached the playoffs newspapers were relevant…that is more than just the two in New York and Washington. Local sports pages and their writers were the Joe’s of their day.

Yeah it’s been that long since the Bucs reached the playoffs.

  19. Sk8djday Says:

@gino I have a post screen shot about 2 slices and a drink if the bucs make the playoffs?
