UPDATED 5:29 p.m. – Bucs star wide receiver Mike Evans needs just 40 yards to put a major stamp on his excellent career. This stamp just might get him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame someday.

Evans is tied with Randy Moss for having the most 1,000-yard seasons to start a career, six from 2014 through 2019. Evans is 40 yards from becoming the NFL record-holder after a dynamite performance today.

Entering the blowout win at Detroit, Evans needed 221 yards to reach 1,000. He damn near got there. Evans racked up 181 yards on 10 catches. He also had two touchdowns.

“I was hoping [Evans] would get it today so we wouldn’t have to play him next week,” Bucco Bruce Arians said after the game.

If Evans gets to 1,000 next week at home in the Den of Depression against the Dixie Chicks, it will be his seventh-straight season of 1,000-yards receiving, the best ever.

Forty. All it takes is 40 yards.

That is why I was glad Evans was in there so long today. I want that HOF jacket for him. To get 1000 again and the 1st ever to have 6 straight seasons to open his career with 1000 each season. Hats off.

He deserves it and better get it next week! Gonna be an all time great that doesn’t come around very often. Not just because of the play but all the off field things he does and showing you don’t have to be a diva to be a superstar!!

  6. ElioT Says:

    Godzilla!!!

Best Buccaneer WR of all time for sure.

  7. Bird Says:

They tried to get it in one game. Kudos ba and bl

Best offensive player in buc history. Sorry galloway

  8. Crispy Says:

    Hey Joe. Catches not carries.

  9. TampaTown Says:

He’s in. The first offensive player in franchise history in the Hall of Fame.

  10. Vincente Says:

He will get in the hall. He’s an Elite receiver and one of the best we have seen in over a decade. He might not get all that TV time like those other guys but people from Texas don’t give a crap about that. Just put their heads down and grind. Good for you Mike Evans, we Texans and Buc fans are happy for and proud of you!!

  11. The southest Buc Says:

catches ♠joe, not carries. What a joy today game for Evans and us. Happy for him, happy for the Bucs. Evans to the Hall!

  12. Rod Munch Says:

Evans is nearing 1200 yards if you include all the PI calls he draws.

  13. Bird Says:

    Jameis made mike evans

What was that posters name. The race baitor
And adr nagy with toilet water
    😂

And to butt much move on. Cause you never did 😂

  14. DBS Says:

I was wanting him to get it today. It sure looked like Brady was trying to make sure he did. But when it happens I want Brady to be the one that gets that ball to him. One of the greatest Bucs ever.

  15. EA Says:

I would have liked to see them throw the ball Mikes way a little more in the second half but i guess 40 yards is doable next week.

  16. 74 Bucs Fan Says:

Joe has strapped on a well deserved buzz! I am all good with that!

  17. JimmyJack Says:

Mike may really have been hurting at the start of the season. He definitely looks 100% now. He has been unrecoverable last few weeks. He always eats up Atl. 40 should be no problem.

But Jesus who has been better? Mike or Gronk?

  18. FairMinded Says:

Incredible achievement and a model player and teammate. None of us were happy with his pick over a QB but we sure lived to eat that assessment!

  19. unbelievable Says:

    Love it.

    Monster day today.

Obviously we played a lousy lousy team today, but who cares? We did what we were supposed to.

I said multiple times this week that Mike needed 140-160 yards today in order to keep him on track. 181 was fantastic!

  20. ohiobucfan Says:

Steve Smith on NFL network dis’d the Bucs big time on the post game show. Hope the coaches use that for bulletin board fodder. Go Buds!

  21. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Just feed him the ball…..even if it’s 10x @ 4 yards each…….or….better yet 1x @ 40….

  22. james west Says:

let me tell you something bird, evans made jameis, how many times did winston put ME13 in a position to get killed by the safety or corner for years, high throws, behind him, throwing low man had to stop to catch it, evans made him, just like evans made johnny football, prove me wrong! there is a possibility with over 200 yards to reach the record with 2 games left, if winston was in there, mike would have a 50/50 chance of getting the record, and probably wouldn’t, if it was not for the incredible receiving talents of evans, godwin, brate, so forth and so on winston would have been further exposed how inadequate jameis is took the goat 1 season with no preseason or OTA’S and such to break the all time buc record for TD’s and so on, so stop with the BS man

  23. ohiobucfan Says:

Buds are good too… but go Bucs.

  24. Cobraboy Says:

The O really clicks when ME is getting fed…

  25. Cobraboy Says:

I agree with james west: ME made Winston.

  26. Cobraboy Says:

How many games had ME missed this season?

  27. Bojim Says:

We knew what he meant Jer.

  28. Bird Says:

    Cobra and james west

That was the joking post of the you know who lovers
Read it again although i am likely cut off

  29. Alvin Scissors Harper Says:

Barring an early injury next week, Evans gets his 7th 1,000 yard season. He has an excellent chance of making the HOF. However, let’s get him a ring!

  30. LongSeason Says:

Rightfully Joe has this article up. Hope Evans can get more than 40 yards next week. Every year in league Mike has 1K yards if he does. Great thing is Mike had 12 targets and 10 catches. He and Brady seem to have gotten on same page.

I don’t see anyone mentioning statistic set by Mike Evans for Rec TD in a season today. Broke his own record of 12 and now has 13 for season. He has now tied for most TD from scrimmage with RB James wilder who had 13 rush TD and no rec TD in 1984. With one more rec TD, Mike Evans would have 14 and break that record.

Only one player going to Pro Bowl, but we are going to the playoffs.

  31. Jeagan1999 Says:

Evans might just be the best player in the NFL who has never been in a playoff game….THAT ENDS NOW!!!!

Evans will get his record, and a chance at a SB title!!!!

  32. Cobraboy Says:

@Bird: I was not kidding. ME made America’s Turnover Machine look good.

  33. bucsince79 aka bumaneer Says:

    Get ME13 his 40 & rest hum for playoffs…

  34. Bird Says:

    CobrA

    😂
So i dont think jameis made winston. I was agreeing with mike making any qb he has to play with. Aka glennon And his buddy for 12 tds his rookie before jAmeis

Look at first post. Mike is best offensive player we have ever had
    All good though. No worries
You guys thought the other. I was trying to say otherwise. I forgot the one poster that kept saying jameis was the key. Thats crazy talk.

  35. orlbucfan Says:

But Jesus who has been better? Mike or Gronk?
    ——————————–
Hey, JimmyJack, hope you have a reason for that major brainfart. Like seriously, some relic who came out of retirement cos of Methuselah12 is better than ME13? Get real, man.

  36. windbaggery Says:

If Brady had stayed in the game, Evans would’ve had 250+ yards today… and we would’ve scored 70.

  37. Jedleman Says:

Evans should’ve come out at halftime too. The records great but if he gets hurt in that situation the seasons screwed. Amateur hour by the bucs staff. Remember what happened to Mike Thomas against the bucs. Bigger fish to fry.

  38. Rod Munch Says:

Jedleman – Go change your tampon lady.

  39. Jedleman Says:

Just because it worked out doesn’t mean it was the smart thing to do rod muncher

  40. Cometowin2 Says:

Been predicting Mike for HOF since early in his third season. Next game cements his legacy. The first real jersey ever bought. Goes real nice with my Lavonte David and Chris Godwin jerseys.

  41. Listnfrmafar Says:

Evan’s is not doubt a premier receiver, some of those catches were sick. One question why is it after every catch he makes his face looks like his jock is twisted?

  42. Mattie Says:

James west did you forget that Jamie’s won a national championship in college and a Heisman trophy as a freshman but I guess that was all kelvin Benjamin. Just saying

  43. NotAbucsFan Says:

HoF? Man not even close. He’s not even in the top 100 wide receivers of all time. At 1,000 yards season equals about 63 yards per game. Far from elite. Yes, he has been consistent and has strong a lot of these together. Consistency isn’t Hall of Fame worthy though. Maybe he deserves to have his number retired by the team. But no way, know how, not ever will he get into the Hall of Fame on this career track.

  44. Joe Says:

Consistency isn’t Hall of Fame worthy though.

    Art Monk says hi.

  45. Eric Brierton Says:

Never mind the bucs are in the playoffs JOE. lets looks at stats well stast have TB12 with more touchdowns than winston and taking then to the playoffs when JW could never GO BUcs on to atl and the SB

  46. Cajun 69 Says:

Hey Jimmy Jack Gronk has several an rings trust me he is a great player Brady finds him when he needs a catch in impossible times they Click now Evans is starting to click but dint sell Gronk short t h ey are both great players but Gronk has a great connection with Brady they have done it all together many times now we have a chance to make a real SB team I hope this year but buy next year I say between Brady and all the great players the Bucs got now Gronk Evans Godwin and on and on the Bucs will have a ring within first 2 seasons I feel it I been a life time Pats fan born an raised I seen the team’s all of them that Won And and they looked a lot like this Bucs team is starting to look like

  47. Tony Says:

I really believe Brady is enjoying playing with Evans & Brady & Gronkowski would be crazy if they considered retiring because both are still playing well. Brady is gonna want Gronkowski & Antonio to come back. They need to bring Barrett & Lavonte back & find a way to somehow replace Donovan Smith because the dude blows.

  48. Tony Says:

The coronavirus could block better than Donovan.
