Marcus Spears Bearish On Bucs

December 17th, 2020

Disgusted with Bucs offense.

Apparently on BSPN recently someone threw out the topic of the Bucs chances to play at home in the Super Bowl, the unstated February goal of the team ever since it signed Tom Brady.

Former Cowboys defensive end Marcus Spears doesn’t think the Bucs have a snowball’s chance of playing in the Super Bowl. And he thinks Bucs coach Bucco Bruce Arians is going to have some splainin’ to do after the season with the family that signs the checks at One Buc Palace.

The Bucs’ offense hasn’t improved at all this year, according to Spears, and here we are three weeks from the end of the season.

And Spears believes that’s on Arians.

“Look, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are no better of a team than what we saw earlier in the year,” Spears began. “And when we talk about Tampa, they did not sign a quarterback to a two-year, $50 million deal to take a year to figure out what they are going to do offensively.

“They brought Tom Brady in to be Super Bowl relevant this year. This year. Not next year. He’s 43!”

Spears said, almost with disgust in his voice, that the Bucs are trying to “backdoor” their way into the playoffs.

“This team is not performing well and that’s the bottom line,” Spears said. He added the Bucs have one-and-done written all over them if they make the playoffs.

Then, Spears challenged those who work within the walls of One Bucs Palace.

Spears said if he is wrong that the Bucs really did bank on 2021 to be the season for 44-year old Brady to break out and lead the team to the Super Bowl, then someone from One Buc Palace should call him and Spears said he will man up and confess on national television he was wrong.

Yes, Joe knows it is frustrating to see all the Bucs’ stars on offense and not see the team duplicate what it did to the Packers earlier in the season. Offensively, the Bucs are simply inconsistent.

They can go out there and ring up a touchdown as easy as Joe can open a can of Big Storm beer. Then they can go two or three possessions without a first down.

Do the Bucs possess the firepower to wake up and rack up points to win a playoff game? Sure. But they better become more consistent.

The Bucs have scored one touchdown in the first quarter in their last six games. You cannot continue to do that in the playoffs and hope to win.

Their offense is to predictable. If BL is the problem BA should call the plays if both are the problem let Brady call the plays.

  2. Bobby M. Says:

IMO…its safe to assume the goal was SB this year in our town, why wouldn’t the team aspire for that? That being said, Brady was signed before the pandemic was really understood and had become disruptive. Once we lost the offseason….you make the most of it as best you can.

Also….people act like “1 and done” is some major let down. We haven’t been in the playoffs in over a decade. As a Bucs fan, making the playoffs is a huge improvement….if we lose, we lose but we’re at least in there with a chance to do something.

Win the last game and a chance to win the next, if they win on Sunday another step closer… but I am getting ahead of myself.. yep they flopped around for a few games and have been inconsistent but that is in the past and makes no difference on Sunday

  4. LJsDaddy Says:

I love my team…but they are a fraud. One and done is exactly right.

  5. Beeej Says:

“The Bucs’ offense hasn’t improved at all this year, according to Spears..”

We currently have a turnover ratio of +5. LAST year, it was -13.

” The Bucs have scored one touchdown in the first quarter in their last six games. You cannot continue to do that in the playoffs and hope to win.”

You can of you score two or three in the fourth

if you had standards you would understand that ONE and DONE means YOU DID NOT BELONG THERE IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!! Especially since every damn team in the league gets in this year….

Bucfans have the lowest standards on earth. Still clinging to washed up has beens that never were plus the fluke championship nearly 20 years ago.

  7. Robert Says:

    one and done…. LOL

this team is primed for a run …DEEP

if anyone can prepare them Suh, Gronk, Brady, JPP……they have a few leaders who know what the playoffs mean.

Perfectly stated…. On point, concise. Honesty that surely the blind nuthuggers can not accept or face.

  9. Aceofaerospace Says:

So if we finish 11-5, we technically back-doored our way into the playoffs? I don’t know what our record will be, nor to I know how far we will go in the playoffs, but I refuse to not enjoy the ride as long as it lasts. I’ll take where we are this year versus where we were last year 100 out of 100 times. We weren’t even praying to “back-door” our way into the playoffs last year. We were discussing who was going to replace Mr-Pick-6. Anything can happen when you make it to the playoffs.

  10. Joe in Michigan Says:

Well, I honestly didn’t think the Bucs would get to Super Bowl 37, either. A cold weather game in Philly didn’t seem winnable to me. Glad to be wrong sometimes.

instead of always looking to find good in the overflowing toilet that is bucball…. wouldn’t you bucfans like to have owners that understand what the hell they are doing and filed a consistent team year in and year out. this pathetic franchise has 6 playoff wins in 40 plus years with 3 coming during the washed up has beens fluke championship. Brady has the same amount of super bow rings as this franchise has playoff wins in it’s entire history. and he did it in half the time.

stop accepting just because it’s better than before…. you people need help

How many interceptions and QB fumbles this year?

Tmax, you never have anything positive to say..You sound just like the get off my lawn old man!

  16. gotbbucs Says:

I’m with tmax on this. It was always Super Bowl or bust for me. If it wasn’t Super Bowl or bust for the organization then shame on them.
You don’t bring in a 43 year old QB to build for the next year. The only way that I would accept not cleaning house in the coaching room this year is at a bare minimum making it to the conference championship game. If this staff can’t win with Tom Brady, Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Rob Gronkowski, and Antonio Brown, then they can’t coach.

I have very little interest in seeing these guys play it back if they couldn’t put it together this season. Covid or not, this has not worked out the way it should.
Byron Leftwich is the offensive coordinator for goodness sake, how serious can anyone be taking this?

  17. geno711 Says:

    This is a better team.
Team concept is important moving forward, I think these guys understanding that and are not worried about some yard stats.

    But look at these things:
16 sacks allowed in 13 games. A ton less turnovers.
    2020 is better than 2019.
    370/294 2020 vs. 458/449 in 2019

The coaching has improved the OL play.
The coaching has improved the corner play.

The 1st quarters of these games have been horrible but the team adjusts in almost every game pretty well after the 1st quarter. If the game time adjustments have nothing to do with coaching then what the heck does.

The coaching also gets blame for the slow starts but there seems to be plenty of that going around here.

By the way, name an NFL fan base that is not complaining about their team right now.

All I care about is if this team is humming during the playoffs.

  18. Mike Johnson Says:

I have never known of a coach who won a Superbowl while riding around in a golf cart during practices. Have you? My Bucs are gonna be home with the rest of us watching the Superbowl from their couches drinkin a brewski and dippin salsa and chips.

  19. 813bucboi Says:

ravens were 14-2 with the NFL MVP last year…

i guess they didnt “belong” in the playoffs…lol…

    GO BUCS!!!!

    18 LA Rams 12.4 11.3 17.0

The first quarters have been interesting but the BUCS seem to adjust just fine. (with the exception of one game)

  21. Alanbucsfan Says:

The Bills struggled in 1st half vs Steelers last week and kicked butt in 2nd half. Their D kept it close early on. That is the key for Bucs- give up 12 points or less in 1st half. Bucs offense starts slow – probably not going to change .

Run the ball and don’t turn it over vs Falcons. Ryan tends to mess up or get sacked if you pressure him and their run game is nothing special.

  22. Wesley Says:

    He’s not wrong.

  23. Al da pewter King Says:

I get the high expectations but people also act like the Bucs should just show up and beat people with their presence.

  24. David Says:

    It is really simple:
if you are in a 3rd and 4 you don’t throw it 50 yards. They try to force way too many things deep, unnecessarily.
That has never been Brady‘s style. His style is – just. keep. getting. first. downs.

The second part of that is
    run. the. ball.

When they are balanced, and use play action, their offense has dominated.
